Inspiring Goosebumps - A R Rahman's "Jana Gana Mana"

I got an email link to A.R. Rahman's directed "Jana Gana Mana" on Google Video. Idle curiosity - I clicked. Smiled in anticipation. It started with the ending lyrics - interesting. The pace held my attention. Moments of silence. Suddenly realized I was holding my breath. A sublime instrumental piece. The chorus started the goosebumps. Again, the silence. I reminded myself - breathe. An amazing vocal set from classical and folk artists. Finally, the man himself. Goosebumps! The soulful alaap. I reminded myself - breathe.

There are moments when one is inspired - to rise up to be more than who we are. Jan 26th, India's Republic Day, is one such day for me and I suspect for many others. On this day in 1950, the Indian Constitution was adopted and India declared herself to be a Sovereign Democratic Republic. While it is a special day in India, it is also special for other countries as well - Jan 26th is Australia Day (in Australia), Duarte Day (in Dominican Republic) and Liberation Day (Uganda).

I usually write prose, but watching that video inspired me to write a poem. So, on the eve of India's 57th Republic Day Celebrations, I would like to dedicate the following poem to all my fellow bloggers on Desicritics.org; to seize the moment; to add our desi voice to the blogosphere world-stage; to unhesitatingly share our ideas and to rededicate ourselves to positive change!

A R Rahman won the best music director award in the Tamilnadu Film Awards for 1994 for this film. The movie was dubbed in Telugu as "Premikudu" & in Hindi as "Humse Hai Muqabla". Unni Krishnan won the National award for best singer for the song "ennavale adi ennavale" (along with the song "Uyirum neeyae" from Pavithra). The song "mukaala muqabla"'s tune was copied several times over by other music directors in films and non-film albums. This fact is mentioned in the Limca Book of Records (for maximum copied tune), the Indian equivalent of the Guinness Book of World Records.
