Hi! New to the MB forum.

This is something which I have always wanted to discuss with other people - why do only rubbish serials with redundant stories work on TV these days?!

I remember sensible shows on Doordarshan (and even early days of Zee) - Shanti, Rajni, Aurat and even engaging non-fiction shows like Surabhi. There were serials like Junoon or Swabhimaan which were about revenge/rivalry etc., but they also used to have solid stories and really good actors! They never dragged for years or relied on silly things like romance or celebrating every festival!

Nowadays these people even ruin shows about historical characters to show love stories or out of the blue ''fight'' scenes!🤢

I don't think people in rural areas really to see such junk. Many of them are still loyal viewers of DD and do admit they miss old shows of DD of 80s or 90s.

Years ago, people were less educated and we had less number of women working outside, compared to today's times. Still they patronised good content back then. I wonder how audiences' tastes are regressing with time?

Even in urban areas, I just find people admitting the serial is crap, but watching it anyway!

I think people watch such serials only out of habit. They like a certain jodi or character or family, and then keep watching the show to know what's going on. So many people watch silly shows on SAB tv purely out of habit. Kuch aur nahin hai dekhne ko toh yehi dekh lete hain!

Currently all channels have this funda of addressing some social or emotional issue but ruining the story with useless drama, never really bothering about the actual issue!

The biggest reason for decline in quality are too many channels/too many shows plus this daily episode format! Weeklies used to be better...(but even that weekly Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand used to be rubbish...😔)

Dunno what to really say about TV serials and ''tastes'' of today's audience!

Annika welcome to the forum.
I completely agree with what you said.
