Message from the Gyre

These photographs of albatross chicks were made in September, 2009, on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking.

To document this phenomenon as faithfully as possible, not a single piece of plastic in any of these photographs was moved, placed, manipulated, arranged, or altered in any way. These images depict the actual stomach contents of baby birds in one of the world's most remote marine sanctuaries, more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.

Oh gosh, this is just sad and tragic....

But the question is not of banning plastic. It's about properly disposing off trash like that.

Why can't we realize what kind of drastic consequences this has?

^^ Exactly.... not many people realize that recycling is the first step toward preventing such tragic consequences. If only more people tried to help out instead of just littering, the world could be a much better place. It's an unfortunate trait of humanity at times.

^^ It's nice to see that people still care. There are a lot of other things going on in the world that not many of us are aware of, which have nothing to do with pollution. Senseless killing goes on in the world every single day or every year in Denmark. Look at this...

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/stop-the-calderon-dolphin-slaughter-in-denmark

Google Calderon dolphin slaughter and see what you come up with. I ask myself, why? Why must these beautiful and harmless creatures be slaughtered so mercilessly when there really is no concrete reason for it? We've come to a very interesting place in society it seems... the lives of innocent animals apparently have no value at all.

P.S. Please sign the petition... it's the least we can do.

It's just sad that most of us keep our houses clean. We realize that that's important. But when it comes to keeping the Earth clean which is most important, we treat it like it just doesn't matter. How hard is it to dispose off trash properly, to recycle?

I just hope more people realize its importance.

P.S. will sign the petition.

You've made a very good point there. Most of us take the time to clean our houses and then we gather up every bit of trash and just throw it out, instead of taking care of it. I ask you, what are we going to do when Earth's condition worsens considerably? Are we going to pick up our clean houses and relocate to another planet? Earth is all we've got... we should take care of it while we can.

And thanks for signing the petition, Mahi... means a lot :)

Oh my gosh, that's terrible :/
Cause people don't have the heart enough to recycle, the poor chickens are dying and so are their babies :(
It's really horrible.
