Awesome points, LadyM! I think the problem as you said is that they only show the half truth....cuz while friends are a very important life as well, one can't just conveniently forget about the parents and only show them in random spurts for comedy purposes in these kind of TV shows. They seem to have no development as characters.....merely showpieces....which is far FAR from the reality of our culture today...no matter how 'modern' it becomes...most parents ARE always involved in the lives of their children! You can't just conveniently shunt them aside cuz they don't figure in your grand scheme of 'ooh what's the next MEGA TACKY HALF BAKED "plot" I can come up with🥱

This bothers me more ever since I've been watching Remix side by side as well....the contrast is glaringly obviously....Remix shows so many varying types of child-parent relationships in that show so beautifully.....if on one side, there is Ashi-Sonia, the other side has Tia-Sumit.....then there is Vrinda's relatioship with her aunt, Aman's relationship with his parents....Yuvi's troubled relationship with his Dad....it's so amazing that there are sooooo many shades all in one show👏 If only the 'creatives' of today had the capacity to apply this much thought into character development

Bolded - And I am watching it right beside you! 😃 Even characters like Varun who's mother blames him for his brother's death and father who is just trying to smooth out the ruffled feathers, MP's being an orphan, Meher's separated parents, Pri's condescending mom are also focussed. Their problems are real and even the strained relationships are real ... the show is as close to reality as you can get! And yet, it is not povertly preachy ...

@ Reemz: LOL! I agree. I love how GunPur's dad has not been mentioned and Nups is in love, shouldn't she tell her dad???

Poor Daddy...

and I love your avi.. Too funny!

It's a million dollar question! 🤣

You are absolutely right! Neither have they gone in depth of Mayank's Dad's history nor have they ever shown anything related to Samrat's parents. Basically, characters like Samrat and Armaan show that their parents aren't important. 😃 But, I guess . . . this doesn't give a good message to the viewers! 🤔

The script writers would rather waste time introducing pointless new characters than write a decent parent-child scene for the show. *shakes head*

I think the reason why parents are missing in action both on DMG and MJHT is that the creatives assume youth show viewers dislike parental intervention in real life, and wouldn't want to see their favourite characters' parents meddling everywhere - whether in a positive or negative manner. To give their viewers a sense of 'freedom' from their real lives, the creatives push parents to the background in the show. That's why even the bonding scenes are reduced to being shown once in a while. It's quite a stupid logic if you ask me, but I think that's one of the reasons why grown ups aren't prominent figures in the lives of their children on those two shows.

awesome post anu... need this clarification frm craetives

Why do these shows try to portray that parents have no importance in the lives of their children once they take off for college or start working?? Is that really the truth of our culture today??

this part is the most imp... my parents platy a very imp part in my lyf.. so it is for my frndz too... dont we belong youth or wat

k i know that MJHT n reality r are far away words frm each other... so they may not show their parents regualrly.. but their children... i mean the leads should remind them na... wen mayur in love.. nupz should think of her frather atleast once... infact she should have some tension abt that ... she didn't have slightest thought of him

k, sam's parents r somewhere..n we we dont know anythign abt them... so wont talk abt them but wat abt dia's n uday's father.. they should have showed him atleast wen sam is in jail na... these r basic points which they can take off...

they r jus spoling the image of the presnt youth... n sometyms it effects them too

Anu, I felt the same. I started watching MJHT from the middle, and wondered where were the parents, in the big house of Dia....and that was the reason that I went back, and watched all the episodes...and atleast there was a glimpse of the dads...but what about dia's mom, and other family members.....I can understand how it is a youth show, but they should show some phone calls between the parents, and stuff....if I remember in Jassi, Armaan parents used to live aboard, but they used to talk on the phone, and occasionally made a visit...which was more realistic.

Well said. 👏 👏 👏
Youths shows shouldnt be just college life, projects, assessments and love and friendship.
It should have parents, your family life as well as your college life.
Parents are a big part of your life and they have the right to know whats going on in your life.
Armaan's parents were made such a joke, i absolutly do not want samrat's parents like that.
if he has a problem with his parents, theyre should be a valid reason for it.
his parents should be shown now, though i doubt it, but samrat is in jail and his parents are still in france?
arnt they supposed to be the first to know, its their son after all.
Youre right about mayank and his mom too, theres no emotion understanding.
Its either shes teasing him or trying to touch his hair, whach is it basically.
Dia and uday's dad seems to have gone to, to be honest i dont see any of them in their house either nowadays, its either a farmhouse, party or in this case jail. 😕
Gunjan and Nupur seem to have forgotten their dad too, they dont speak on the phone, nor write letters, its like the guy doesnt care about his daughter.
My parents call up my aunties like 5 times a day to see if im okay,
but here the parents dont care whats happening, nor are they shown.
the kids are too engrossd in their love life to even think about their parents.
Its quite sad actually.
About Remix, that was one show that had everything, friendship, parents, problems with love life and parents, college, lessons, studies. Everything was balanced out. So well done to the makers of remix. 👏

I wholeheartedly agree Anu! Me too liked the way Shashank and Riddhima's relationship was concieved during the start of DMG...but then it faded away...I so waited for a relationship of armaan with his father...given his vulnerability but it wasn't shown either.Same was the case with Mayu's mom…she just seems to be reduced to the tang kheechayi sessions. Why are they just used for some introductory episodes to get a glimpse of the background of these characters?I know...there seems to be no parent aspect explored in their romantic relationships in any way. Looks as if these people are on their own.Their concerns and decisions in life are solely romance based and lack other aspects of life while their parents have no say in any of these things...or if they do have they are saved for other nautankis (Armaan's father).

lol...talk about Remix...well.. when I read the title of ur post I only got reminded of Remix....I so adore the way they have intervowen parent-child relationships whether its for Ashi-Sonia,Tia-Sumeet or Yuvi-YD and his mom or other ppl and how their reactions to a particular situation are affected by their parents. Also how the child's actions bear resemblance to their parents' actions and their overall upbringing like in Varun or Pri's case since they are full of insecurities. Its so beautiful to watch all these relationships. That way its an interesting watch to see the characters falling in love, how they overcome the problems related to their romantic lives whether it's the initial opening up to ur partner, or the basis of their falling in love with the person in the first place. It explains a lot of things about the character n also aids in character growth over time and on top of that it does add more spice to the happennings.I wonder whether is it so tough to show parent contribution in these so called romantic shows? Actually, exploring these other aspects would serve as a good fodder for the creatives also since they won't have to "create" some other random sequences just to get the story forward.
