Why do parents never matter??

A general thought that occurred to me today....why is it that in these 'new age youth shows' like MJHT and DMG, parents never seem to figure in the equation after the first few epis???

DMG started with a beautiful relationship b/w Shashank and Riddhima....cut to a few months later and nothing remained of that relationship but random appearances by Shashank once in a blue moon as if to remind the audience that maybe his daughter DOES have a life beyond mooning after Armaan🥱😆

MJHT started with Nupur-Gunjan's dad being shown for maybe one-two epis....Dia's dad being shown for like 2 epis total and POOF! NOTHING since!😆😆....all the youngsters are then caught up in their 'romantic' escapades😆😆

I think the last time Nupur and Gunjan must have been shown to talk to their father was the Diwali epis last Novemer if I recall correctly😕😆

Then we come to Samrat....bechara.....he's been relegated to the same fate as Armaan from DMG....parents that are only mentioned once ever 4 months but NO glimpse of them EVER😆....hope his parents whenever they are shown don't turn out to be as 🤢 as Armaan's parents were ultimately shown to be😆

And finally we come to the ONLY parent figure in this show....Mayank's Mom....the one exception it seems so far....I generally figured she's like Shashank from DMG in that she makes an appearance once every 3-4 weeks....does her usual random goofing around/baalon ko mat chhuo/teasing scene with Mayank and then disappears again😆😆....point is....barring maybe one or two scenes, WHEN has there ever been much depth shown to the relationship that M and his Mom share???

Why do these shows try to portray that parents have no importance in the lives of their children once they take off for college or start working?? Is that really the truth of our culture today?? I don't think so.

I've been watching Remix re-runs as well and they show the relationships of the parents with their children so beautifully in that show.....they aren't mere showpieces who show up once in a blue moon to either banter with their children or scold them for some random thing....they are an ACTIVE part of their children's lives and share in their joy and sadness in equal measures!

Why is it that in the 'youth shows' that are currently on air on this channel, there is no life beyond the frivoloties in college or 'falling in love'?? Those things are a part of life, yes...but they aren't the ONLY thing that would matter in ppl's lives, are they?? Log aasmaan se toh nahin tapke hain...EVERY one has some sort of parent figure in their lives....atleast in this show they do.....then WHY are they NEVER shown to have a purpose?? There is such a thing as light-hearted entertainment....and then there is the brainless variety of that with no thought of any sort put into building a cohesive storyline....and the 'youth shows' on Star One today are the epitome of the latter👎🏼

Ok, I'm done....just felt like ranting😛😆

The portrayal is quite the opposite to real life isn't it? Our parents want to know who we hang out with and are worried sick what time do we come back home. They like to have a say in what we choose to wear, what do we want to do with our life ...In short, they are what parents are meant to be - more than just providers. They are life givers!

Is it a surprise then, when the youth based shows like these show non-existent parents who have nothing to do with their children's lives except provide food, clothing, shelter and MONEY, we see increase in the cases of teenage rebellions? In absence of parental meddling and well meaning advice, shoot-outs in high school, drugs, alcohol, smoking, sex scandals, and all the other vices that the youth based TV leads seem to magically steer clear from, become rampant. Friends and their new experiences become the next cool thing to do. Young audiences are not able to differentiate the fact from fiction, most often resorting to peer pressure. And the society begins to deteriorate.

We blame the west for influencing our culture. How true is that? Vices are vices at the end of the day, whichever culture or race you belong to. Besides, no society would exist without a stable family system. By not showing parental influence on our lives, the makers are showing us half truth. I just hope the audiences are mature enough to understand that!

Edit: I went off on a tangent of my own ... *sheepish muh* A brilliant post Anuji. Cannot imagine my life without my parents!

This question should be actually directed towards the creative of the show.

I myself is confused as to why is there a lack of parents in MJHT? and I agree Anu. Let's hope Samrat's France Parents are normal and not made into a joke like Armaan's parents were.

and Hopefully once parents tinkle back, I hope we don't see rich boy Samrat's parents disapporiving of Gunjan because she is a benji type.. No status stuff in MJHT please..

This is common in the youth shows today. A youth show should be well rounded showing all aspects; friends, family, studies. Maybe what sells more is the mush or the cool gang aspect rather than parent-child interaction.

Awesome points, LadyM! I think the problem as you said is that they only show the half truth....cuz while friends are a very important life as well, one can't just conveniently forget about the parents and only show them in random spurts for comedy purposes in these kind of TV shows. They seem to have no development as characters.....merely showpieces....which is far FAR from the reality of our culture today...no matter how 'modern' it becomes...most parents ARE always involved in the lives of their children! You can't just conveniently shunt them aside cuz they don't figure in your grand scheme of 'ooh what's the next MEGA TACKY HALF BAKED "plot" I can come up with🥱

This bothers me more ever since I've been watching Remix side by side as well....the contrast is glaringly obviously....Remix shows so many varying types of child-parent relationships in that show so beautifully.....if on one side, there is Ashi-Sonia, the other side has Tia-Sumit.....then there is Vrinda's relatioship with her aunt, Aman's relationship with his parents....Yuvi's troubled relationship with his Dad....it's so amazing that there are sooooo many shades all in one show👏 If only the 'creatives' of today had the capacity to apply this much thought into character development

Apparently when you fall in love, parents and family don't really matter as much 😉 Your love for them lessens and you don't need them as much either.
