Part 47:
Warning: This is a rather long update and has more of Mayur. I hope I have lived upto expectations. 😳
Continue from: Nupur – Kitchen
Nupur looks around but doesn't see Mayank.
Nupur: yeh Mayank kaha gayab ho gaya? Kahi khidki se bahar toh nahi bhag gaya?
She walks closer to the window when suddenly a noise comes from behind, startling her. Its none other than Mayank, standing at the door, smiling.
Mayank: waha kya kar rahi ho Nupur? Mujhe toh nahi dhund rahi thi?
Nupur: nahi nahi, tumhare ghar me tum thode hi rahoge. Main toh Shahid Kapur ko dhund rahi thi.
Mayank laughs and walks to where Nupur is standing. Suddenly, he moves closer and closer to her.. so much so that Nupur goes all red and closes her eyes. He looks at her lovingly, as she looks all shy and unnerved.
Mayank (to himself): tumhe kya lagta hai Nupur, badla lena sirf tumhe hi aata hai?
He then sobers down his expression and aloud he says –
Mayank: Nupur, apni aankhen toh kholo.
Nupur jerks her eyes open and looks at him awkwardly.
Nupur: kya hua?
Mayank: zara side ho.
Nupur: haan?
Mayank: ab agar aap side nahi hongi toh main salt kaise lunga?
Nupur: salt??
Mayank removes a container of salt from a shelf behind Nupur and shows it to her, pointing towards the label.
Mayank: salt Nupur, namak?
Nupur: toh tum bas namak le rahe the?
Mayank: haan! Main toh khaane me namak leta hu, tum nahi leti kya?
Nupur: nahi wo – mujhe laga ke –
Mayank: kya laga Nupur?
They are still standing very close to each other and looking right into each other's eyes. As Nupur tries her best to frame an answer, Mayank's Mum comes into the kitchen. Seeing her there suddenly, Mayank jumps and drops the salt on the floor.
Mom: Mayu! Kya kar raha hai?
Mayank: sorry Ma, galti se slip ho gaya.
Nupur: koi baat nahi aunty, main saaf kar deti hu.
Mayank: haan Ma, tum jaake baitho, hum kar lenge.
Mom: woh toh tu sham se paka raha hai. Agar teri cooking pe bharosa na hota toh aisa lagta ki puri cricket team aane wali hai dinner pe!
Its Mayank's turn to go red and he looks at his Mum sternly. But she ignores the look and looks at Nupur instead.
Mom: sach me Nupur, itni preparation toh exams me bhi nahi karta hai Mayank.
Nupur: acha aunty? Phir toh dinner bahut hi namkeen hoga.
Mom: namkeen?
Mayank is quick to interrupt.
Mayank: Ma tum jaake baitho na.
Mom: haan wohi batane aayi thi. Mujhe ek file dene Mrs Verma ke ghar jaana hai. Paas me hi hai Nupur, main bas thodi der me aa jaungi haan?
Nupur: thik hai aunty, jaldi aa jaana.
Mom: haan beta. Aur Mayu, tab tak toh dinner ban jayega na? Ya Nupur ko breakfast tak rukna padega?
As Mayank's look gets angrier, she ruffles his hair and smiles.
Mom: "ma baalo ko mat chuo!" Ok ok, main chalti hu. Bye!
His Mom leaves. Mayank picks up the vegetables he has sliced and with a flourish, resumes his cooking. Nupur looks at him with interest.
Mayank: ab tum dekhti hi rahogi ya meri kuch madad bhi karogi?
Nupur: by God, ye acha hai! Ghar aaye mehmaan se kaam karwaoge?
Mayank looks at her for a while.
Mayank: ab tum mehmaan thode hi ho Nupur.
Nupur blushes again.
Nupur: acha? Toh hum apke hai kaun?
Mayank: mooli.
Nupur: (angrily) kya? Main tumhare liye mooli ke barabar hu? Wo bhi mooli? Khaane me itni bekaar hai, na koi taste hai, na kuch! Mayank tum toh –
Mayank: Nupur! (He gives her a couple of radishes.) Aur kuch nahi kar sakti toh dimaag toh mat khao, baithke inhe hi slice kar do.
Nupur cant help but stare open mouthed at him.
Mayank: (taking the radishes back) koi baat nahi, tum rehne hi do. Zyada dimaag lagaogi toh khatam ho jayega.
Nupur snatches them from him and goes off in a corner to slice them, with an angry look on her face. Mayank hides a smile with a lot of difficulty and continues his cooking.
Cut to: Gunjan – At home, in the kitchen
She is getting some juice out from the fridge – thoughts of Samrat making her smile on and off. As she closes the fridge door and turns, she sees Samrat standing in front of her. Startled, she almost drops the bottle.
Samrat: dhyan se chashmish! Gira mat dena.
Gunjan: Samrat! Tum yaha kya kar rahe ho?
Samrat: tumse milna aaya hu, obviously. Meri yaad aa rahi thi na? So main aa gaya!
Gunjan cant trust her eyes and shuts them tightly. When she opens them after a while, Samrat is gone. Gunjan is flustered, she had never been the type to day dream! Just then, she hears a loud noise from Dia's room. Surprised, she keeps the juice on a shelf and goes to find Dia. The door is open and Dia is sitting on her bed, crying bitterly. Gunjan is worried and goes upto her immediately.
Gunjan: Dia! Kya hua tumhe? Ro kyun rahi ho?
Dia pretends to turn away in order to hide her tears.
Dia: kuch nahi Gunjan.. tum please mujhe akela chod do.
Gunjan: arey batao toh sahi. Kisi ne kuch kaha kya tumse?
Dia: ab koi kya kahega Gunjan. Isme kisi ki bhi galti nahi hai.
Gunjan: kisme? Thik se batao na please.
Dia: (with an audible sigh) thik hai. Tum sun na hi chahti ho toh suno.
She stands up and walks a bit ahead, her back facing Gunjan.
Dia: Gunjan, Dia aajtak kisi ke liye bhi nahi royi. Rote toh hum unke liye hai jo hamare liye special hote hai. Aur aaj mujhe pata chala hai ke jo mere liye sabse special hai, jisse main pyar karti hu, wo mera kabhi ho hi nahi sakta!
Gunjan: aisa kyun keh rahi ho?
Dia: aisa isliye keh rahi hu, kyunki use bahut badi misunderstanding ho gayi hai, jo shayad sulajh hi nahi sakti! He used to love me so much, lekin jabse tum –
Gunjan: (stunned) main?
Dia: please Gunjan, aise anjaan mat bano. Tum jaanti ho main Sammy ke baare me baat kar rahi hu.
Gunjan doesn't respond but looks down.
Dia: dekho main jaanti hu ke tumhare liye wo sirf ek acha dost hai, par use lagta hai ke tum usse pyar karti ho! (Taking enjoyment in Gunjan's startled expression, she makes her voice even sadder.) Aur wo tumhe hurt nahi karna chahta. In sab me main kyun suffer karun? Meri kya galti hai? Mera pyar wo kaise bhula sakta hai?
Gunjan: kya? Samrat ko aisa lagta hai? Usne kaha yeh tumse?
Dia: toh kya main jhuth bol rahi hu?
Gunjan: mujhe yeh nahi pata tha Dia. Aur yeh bhi nahi pata tha ke tum aur Samrat ek dusre se..
Dia: I am so sorry Gunjan. Main tumhe pareshan nahi karna chahti thi.
Gunjan's eyes have also filled up with tears and her voice is rather shaky.
Gunjan: tum chinta mat karo Dia, main Samrat se baat karungi. Main kisi ke bhi pyar ke beech nahi aana chahti thi.
Dia: nahi Gunjan, use mat batana ke maine tumhe yeh sab bataya hai. Wo mujhse aur bhi dur chala jayega. Lets just forget it. Main use bhulne ki -
Gunjan: nahi Dia, main use yeh nahi bataungi. Par main koshish karungi ke meri wajah se tum dono ka rishta kharab na ho.
Dia's tears seem to vanish as if by magic and she goes up to give Gunjan an affectionate hug.
Dia: ohh Gunjan! Thank you so much. Tum is world ki sabse best sister ho.
As Gunjan fights back tears during the hug, Dia says to herself –
Dia: aur shayad sabse badi bewakoof bhi. Huh, Sammy sirf Dia ka hai, aur Dia ka hi rahega!
Cut to: Mayank and Nupur – Kitchen
Nupur is done with slicing of vegetables and is looking at some recipe books that are lying nearby. She finds one particularly funny and begins to talk about it.
Nupur: by God, yeh recipe book wale toh bilkul hi joker hai. Na jaane kaunsi dish hai – naam se toh African lagti hai – keh rahe hai cook till brown. Ab yeh red colour ka gajar brown kaise hoga bhala?
Mayank nods his head in an all enduring manner.
Mayank: haan Nupur, tum jaake inko kuch cooking tips kyun nahi de deti?
Nupur: mere paas aur bhi kaam hai mister bawarchi. Aapko jaana hai toh jaayiye, meri bhi jaan chutegi! Bas yeh dhyan rakhna ke jaha ja rahe ho waha zoo hai ya nahi.
Mayank: kya?
Nupur: arey Mayank, langoor toh zoo me hi rehte hai na!
Mayank: tumhe toh main dekh lunga!
Nupur starts walking towards him from her corner, smiling mysteriously.
Nupur: toh dekho na!
Just then, the electricity goes off and the kitchen is plunged into darkness!
Cut to: Radz – Home
It is dark here too, so much for the power cut. Radz had been busy studying notes for an upcoming exam and is a little irritated by the disturbance.
Radz: roz boltu hi Papa ko ke generator sahi karwa lo lekin nahi! Yeh Samrat ka bacha bhi busy rehta hai. Kaash koi hota jo mujhe bhi princess ki tarah treat karta.
Her thoughts are distracted by the ringing of her cell phone. It is Benji. Radz sighs and keeps staring at the cell phone.
Cut to: Mayank and Nupur - Kitchen
Both Mayank and Nupur are taken aback with the sudden disappearance of light. As their eyes get a little adjusted to the darkness, they can see each other better. Nupur suddenly feels a little awkward to realize that she is alone with Mayank, in his house, in the dark. Mayank probably senses it too. To cover up any such thoughts, she continues to walk upto him and he turns his gaze to the frying pan.
Nupur: wah Mayank, ise kehte hai dedication. Andhere me bhi pakaoge, khaane ko bhi aur mujhko bhi!
She looks at him standing behind her shoulder.
Nupur: mujhe bhi sikhao na please! Maine aunty ko kaha tha ke tum cooking tips doge.
Mayank: arey ab tak toh seekhne ka mann hua nahi, andhere me kya sikhogi? Namak ki jagah cheeni daal dogi.
Nupur: haye raam, tumhe namak se itna pyar kyun hai?
Without looking she tries to snatch the stirrer from his hand but gets hold of his hand instead.
Nupur: ab tum sikha rahe ho ya main?
Mayank: kya karogi tum mere haath ka?
Nupur: tumhara haath?
She realizes she's been holding his hand and lets go at once. Feeling immensely shy, she moves a little away.
Nupur: uh, Mayank, main ek minute me aati hu.
Mayank is now in no mood to let her escape. As she begins to inch backwards, he moves towards her too. In the dark, Nupur is moving not in the direction of the door, but the wall.
Nupur: dekho tum sahi keh rahe the. Ab mujhe toh khaana banana aata nahi, andhere me na jaane kya karu.
Mayank is relishing the fact that she will soon be blocked.
Mayank: koi baat nahi Nupur, tumne hi toh kaha sikhane ko..
With a light thud, Nupur hits the wall. She looks around, startled. Mayank puts one hand on either side of her to stop her from leaving.
Nupur: dekho Mayank –
Mayank: dekh toh raha hu!
Even in the darkness, their gaze into each other's eyes is fixed, deep and full of love.
Cut to: Radz - Home
She is talking on the phone with an agitated expression.
Radz: kya hai Benji? Koi kaam waam nahi hai kya?
Benji: arey baap re, mood toh thik hai madam ka?
Radz: sorry yar, ek toh light nahi nahi, phir exam aa rahe hai. Life is too hard..
Benji: arey tabhi toh sun, ek good news deni thi.
Radz: (happily) mere exams postpnone ho gaye?
Benji: oye nahi, usse bhi badi baat hai!
Radz: ohhh God! Sam shaadi toh nahi kar raha?
Benji: oof nahi. Pooja ka mood sahi ho gaya hai!
Radz feels as if she could kill Benji if he was in front of her.
Radz: wow Benji! Kal college me chocolates baatna, Ganpati ko 500 ka prasad chadana, 600 nariyal phodna!
Benji: 600 thode zyada nahi hai? Main 5 k baare me soch raha tha.
Radz: tu phone rakhta hai ya main –
Benji: ok ok baba, bye! Bhalai ka toh zamaana hi nahi hai.
Radz keeps the phone down and looks up towards the ceiling.
Radz: oh God! Agar meri life me kuch bhi acha hone wala hai, short term me, toh kuch toh indication do. Aise toh main pagal ho jaungi! Aap sun rahe ho ya main loudspeakers pe bolu??
As she finishes her sentence, the power is back and her room is flooded with light.
Cut to: Mayank and Nupur – Kitchen
What would have happened had the lights come on a bit later, we aren't yet to find out. Presently, the kitchen is again lit up and both of them drop their gaze. Nupur rushes out of the kitchen instantly. Mayank follows.
Mayank: arey Nupur, abhi sab kuch kaha seekha tumne –
Nupur: mujhe nahi sikhna, aise mauke baaz bawarchi se, by God!
They are both in the living room now and the door suddenly opens. Mom is back.
Mom: light chali gayi thi na Mayu? Acha hua jaldi aa gayi.
Mayank: (making a face) acha hua?
Mom: aur nahi toh kya? Hum andhere me dinner karte nahi toh, kyun Nupur?
Nupur: jee aunty..
Nupur makes a triumphant face to Mayank who merely smiles back.
Mayank (to himself): koi baat nahi Nupur, aaj nahi toh kal tum mujhse zarur kahogi ke tum bhi mujhse pyar karti ho.
Nupur (to herself): jo bhi ho, mera langoor hai bahut pyara!
