Since their marriage, Kartik and Lakshmi’s storyline has stagnated. They appear briefly, sometimes only for a couple of minutes per episode, and are even omitted entirely in some episodes, like the last two. It’s as if the writers have forgotten they’re the main characters, not just supporting roles to Mangal. Is this oversight, or is it favoritism towards actors like Deepika, who was already popular before this show, while Kartik and Lakshmi’s actors are newcomers? Colors TV doesn’t even tag Shubham Dipta in posts, yet they consistently tag Urvashi Upadhyay.
While Saumya’s wedding has been shown multiple times, and Adit and Mangal’s complicated relationship is being stretched into a romantic arc, Lakshmi’s singing talent seems to have been completely sidelined. At this rate, the show might as well be titled *Mangal Saumya*, given how much more screen time Saumya receives over Kartik and Lakshmi. Furthermore, the storyline where Kartik accepts Lakshmi as his lifelong partner feels rushed and unconvincing; just moments prior, he wanted to elope with Jiya. This quick reconciliation seems more like a plot device to wrap up their arc so that Mangal’s story can take center stage.
Additionally, characters with rich backgrounds and potential, like Nidhi, Umesh, and now Sanjana, are slowly disappearing. These characters offer depth, even more so than Mangal in some cases, yet the writers seem uninterested in exploring their stories. Shubham mentioned in an interview a few weeks ago that Kartik and Lakshmi’s story would soon regain focus, but they remain relegated to guest appearances. It’s time for Shubham and Sanika to address this with the creators, who should recognize the dissatisfaction from fans about the lack of justice for these titular characters. And I’m far from alone in this; many fans on other social media platforms are echoing these same frustrations.
