i understand your rage and completely agree with it, that's why its really a personal choice. a woman DOES NOT have to change her name if she doesnt want to, simple as that. there's no law that says she HAS to.Oh well, I think it's Mrs. Mahi Talwar that's the best.
I can never understand just why the hell do women have to change their surnames after marriage. Once i was feeling mighty pissed off over the sexist notions that exist in our society and decided to look up the reason behind this change of surnames.
After a bit of Googling I discovered that a woman changes her surname to indicate that she "belongs" to her husband now, and not to her father anymore.
What the hell? Why should a woman show that she "belongs" to her husband, why not the other way round? Women also have an identity of their own, why should they change it after marriage?
Isn't the whole damn concept very primitive?
Is that all there is to a woman's life?Either she belongs to her father or to her husband?
In my opinion, a child should take the surname of his mother/father and retain it till his death, irrespective of who he/she marries.
If I were in Mahi's place, My surname would have remained Talwar. And I wouldn't have added "Shiv" to it either. i would have had better ways of showing my love.
