@ 1Rockstar1, havent read anything about this till now.

@ HearMeRoar, Daksh- Sati convo was mainly taken from Devi Puran, minus modern touch.
I guess, speed is needed to know what will viewers like. Slow pace may not work for week ends as people actually take out time to watch at 7 pm slot.

Mahakali is what is working for the show... 😊

The casting of Pooja Sharma is spot on. Her shifting between Parvati and Mahakali has been seamless and very well done.

In way I think that the fact that so far they have not emphasised or to be more correct - drawn out the "romance" part, is also actually working for the show.

what is working for this show
1. PooRabh collaboration will attract many viewers
2. Pooja make up and costume as Mahakali and Parvati is amazing
3. Saurabh as Shiv is a new fresh image for viewers
4. Fast paced for the flash back scenes is a right choice for familiar storyline
5. I think this version is so fresh with colorful and luxury set

I think it is too early to judge whether Mahakali is working or not.
A show should be allowed to run at least a month or 2 before we come up to the decision whether did this concept work out or not
I find it ironic that this post is being made when the trps of Mahakali has slided down the charts.
And it has also lost a whopping amount of viewership .
0.7 is not a low number per se.
And it has been actually losing its viewership continuously after the first week.
Even the topic of the post would have been valid if Mahakali either had a rise in viewership or at least maintain its position on the charts for these 3 weeks.
But it hasn't.
So the question actually should be, "Why Mahakali is losing its viewership week by week? "
I might sound Like a hater , but truth is truth
The funny thing is that nobody has yet cracked the successful Formula for a superhit TV show apart from saas bahu conflicts rock!!!
Initial trps mostly comes from a mixture of high voltage promotions, good concept, quality promos ,Cast and last but not the least, media buzz(super special emphasis on controversy), timings, frequency of telecast .
To be noted here , cast doesn't mean popularity of actors.

About distortions, I don't really mind about them(I just stop watching the show on TV) until the script is okayish and the distortions make watching the serial interesting while keeping the corresponding concept from the puranas intact.
Thoda bahut fictionalization aur drama ki bhi zarurat hai.
But the main problem is, The writers get on too much on the fictionalization train.
So much so that the viewers start to demand for authenticity.
And the mazedaar thing is that, they do it to widely known stories?
Remember,Raavan's appearance in Siya Ke Ram?!
That was the height of illogical, nonsensical and unnecessary fictionalisation done to the well known story of Ramayana
But then again, who am I to criticize?!
The catch is to distort the show into something that resonates well with the TRP audience psyche.
As long as the story will resonate with the public mind, trps will come in regardless the distortions done to the original story.

U R right. But frankly no show sticks to the known texts. There is always mixing, matching, adding some really trite stuff, to try and keep audience interest.

Also, there is the fact that there seems to be a need to drag everything into the 21st century language (especially feminist), which leads to a lot of distortions. One of the main beliefs, of the ancients of our land was "balance". Everything is supposed to exist in balance. Harmony is possible only with balance. But it is difficult to project this balance correctly and keep the trps.

Which is why, with this show, I am just enjoying the way Pooja Sharma has portrayed Parvati and Mahakali. Everything else ... well ...

@luna99 nice posts
They should consider about the trp drops every week
And need to research what viewers expect from the show
Whether the pure teachings (based on Puranas) or just interesting drama around the deities

Imo this show is rely too much on main leads screen time
They should optimize the role of other Deities and characters

It is highly difficult to predict completely whether a show would work or not.
In fact, a show which is garnering trps right now might lose its hold among the crowd a few while after.
Not only that, a show inspired by the theme of another highly successful show might not garner the same ratings as the predecessor show.
For example, jodha akbar was such a big hit, but did ChandraNandini managed to reach the same height In terms of ratings and overall popularity?
No.
Naagin was so popular, but EK 'S Chandrakanta never managed to garner the same popularity, despite having Urvashi Dholakia as the marquee name.
Anyways, before I begin my analysis on the probable cause of Mahakali 'S constant trp drop(ofcourse this is my own opinion) , I have a question for you all:
Would you like to proclaim yourselves as a crying slave to your husband /boyfriend, and only do useful work after your significant other empowers you with a 2 hr long bhashaan on naari shakti?
(2 hr is an approximate time that I have come up after getting bored with feminist lectures that run more than half the total running time of Mahakali per episode)

Always like your posts that are logical and sensible. Your analysis on the show stands true as per me... I agree with whatever you said. A writer in confusion reg the content can never present a good show . Actors can captivate only for a short while but ultimately content matters.

The key is to do I guess is to do proper fictionalisation while keeping the core and well known story intact.
Like dialogues and some scenes.
Viewers don't really expect dialogues translated directly from the Puranas for the TV shows.
Also there are opportunities to show scenes different from those depicted in Puranas .
But of course not diverting from the main story progression as given in the Puranas way too much.
But shows (especially those written by a certain Utkarsh Naithani) tends to change the entire plot of a well established mythology.
I mean whom they are trying to fool?
I know, they probably have got away with minor distortions like Drupad hating Draupadi, but what about Arjun killing Hidimb?
I guess every people kinda knows that Bheem killed Hidimb.

But what worked in even 2016 mightn't work in 2017.
Viewer mentality changes a lot, and seems like authenticity and adherence to the available material seems to be a big priority for mythology/historical show audience.
A maker has to do proper research regarding the storyline of these shows.
One can no longer write kuch bhi and feed to the audience.
Those days are gone forever for good.
