POS episode for me today. Was pretty excited about it, but each and every moment was a huge disappointment for me.
Bhishma v. Abhi:
The intro for this battle was very huge last episode. An average person would think after watching Saturday's episode that "Monday's episode will definitely have some intense great grandfather v. great grandson war scene." Needless to say, what was shown today was not war, it was not a battle, it wasn't even a duel. If Bhishma's throwing power = a bow, is that why he doesn't use his bow? This particular scene had a huge amount of potential to carry the episode because they could have shown Abhi holding himself in front of Bhishma (even the switching of weapons would have worked well if they played it correctly).
As we all noticed, the pose of the Mahamahim was hilarious. It was probably the one part where I laughed.
I half-expected Bhishma to bless Abhi or at least praise him for cutting him with the sword, but then I thought ... Bhishma was too busy twirling around like a ballerina ... no wonder Abhi got a clean shot at him.
Arjun (w/ Dhristi) v. Drona
The scene was typical. It seems like they changed the SFX of the arrows. They now glow with color! Prefer this more than magical bird conjuring arrows. My favorite part was the three way arrow, where Dhristi joins in. That Arjun - Dhristi mind thingy was pretty nice.
Yuddhi v. DDS
Ugh. Either Yuddhi is too damn gullible or he is just that stupid but not as stupid as the combined brain of DDS. First off, Yuddhi's spear is knocked away from his hands with an arrow shot by Shakuni. Then Dushi throws him a mace just so it doesn't infringe on the war rules. But then the next moment, it's a 3 v. 1 battle. If they wanted to finish him off unfairly, why give a stupid mace??
To make things worse, Yuddhi held his own on that 3 v 1. He was gaining the upper hand on Dury too which makes things all the more worse because Dury is like 100x the mace fighter Yuddhi was. What prevented Yuddhi from dropping the mace and grabbing a spear is beyond me though. It seems that per the rules, any person can change weapons and the opponent must comply. So all Yuddhi had to do was drop the mace and go back to him weapon of choice. Clearly this doesn't infringe on Dharma either, so I'm just going to say that Yuddhi wasn't in his smart mood today.
Shalya & Uttar
This part was the most hated moment for me. The way Uttar dies makes him more of a -- excuse me if this sounds offensive, I'm just trying to make a comparison -- Al-Qaeda terrorist jihadi. Think about it - Uttar's goal was to sacrifice himself for the greater good (**cough** suicide bomber *cough**). Now from the looks of it, either Uttar reached there in the nick of time and dropped down to his knees because of the spear hitting him, OR Uttar reached there before that and dropped to his knees to embrace the spear. In either case, all he had to do was shove Yuddhi to the ground. By then the war ending conch had blown so Dury couldn't attack if he wanted to and if he did, Uttar could have thrown dirt in his eyes or something.
The point is - Uttar's death is very poorly done. He didn't get a good one on one fight with Shalya, and he didn't show the world that he is no longer than scared child back in Virat, but a warrior. Killing a few ground soldiers is great and all, but he really made no name for himself.
If people ask his parents: "Mr. and Mrs. Virat... how did you son die?"
The response would have to be: "My son died serving the emperor."
When further pressed to reveal the details of his death, the king of fishes (matsya) would say "He stood in the way between Shalya and Yuddhi. Shalya threw a spear at Yuddhi, and my son ran and stood in it's way, thereby saving the emperor."
How corny does that sound ...
Hopefully they don't do this with Abhi... Yuddhi enters the chakravyuh and then Shakuni or something lurches forward to stab Yuddhi but Abhi quickly jumps in the way and dies in the arms of Yuddhi. Yuddhi then becomes angry and goes on a wild rampage.
Before I forget, we saw Ashwatthama aim an arrow at Bhim as he rode away on Saturday but there isn't a continuation of that. what??
=====
I'll give SP one thing though - they have highlighted each Pandava using and showing off their skills of their preferred weapon. It's something BRC missed because all they focused on was bows and arrows. IIRC, only BRC Bhim was the one who actually used another weapon one on one. (except that Shalya v. Yuddhi or Shakuni v. Sahadev)... otherwise the vast majority was arrows arrows and more arrows
