Atleast this narrative doesn't hint any such thing.

thank you so much for the link ... just finished reading ...interesting ... will read some other pages from that link... am learning new things as we go along..

in the article its interesting how Indra says ''In thy hand, however, this dart, O son of Suta, will slay only one powerful enemy of thine.''

by that time Indra and Karan both know that he is Surya putra ... but he is still addressed at Suta

Exactly! Indra could say 'Son of Surya'.

KMG contradicts itself for the part in bold, in KMG it is written that Indra was delighted by karna's daan and he himself gave the weapon to him. So the TM is not wrong on this one.

thank you ... i would love to read the link from KMG as well ...
if you could please take the pains and provide us the link here ...

thanks in advance

I dont understand the logic of no deciet here.. Indra did ask for his Kavach -Kundal disguised as brahman
and from the citations you provided-
"O Lord! O Sakra, it is not proper for me to confer on thee any unprofitable boon, for thou art the very lord of the celestials! On the contrary, being as thou art the Creator and lord of all beings, it is thou that shouldst confer boons on me! If, O god, I give thee this coat of mail and ear-rings, then I am sure to meet with destruction, and thou shalt also undergo ridicule! Therefore, O Sakra, take my earrings and excellent mail in exchange for something conferred by thee on me!"
Above bold line can be read as a bargain ..but I do read it as Karna saying to Indra that Since you are the lord and it is your duty to give boon to others , Then give me in return something conferred so that You dont become object of ridicule.

indra was disguised yes, bt Karna knew he's Indra. Indra 'attempted' deciet bt finally it was a bargain nd Karna's concern for himself as well as Indra.

😊 What a bargain isnt it... Someone snatches your immortality away and gives you an astra in return... if it was bargain... I wish Karna would have asked more.. else all I can see is his loss here...
Karna knew he is Indra because Surya told him. But Indra came there in disguise to ask for KK daan.. so that was a deciet only..

It was not Karna who was willing to ask for shakti, he told Surya that he will give the Kavach no matter who asks for it, it was Surya who told Karna to ask for a weapon, it was not what Karna was willing to do.

Kmg says in one place that Indra was delighted and gave Karna shakti himself, Karna did not ask for it according to Adi parva.

Thewatcher, the reference by shruti gives detailed dialogue between indra and karna.

It should take precedence over any stray lines. It was a bargain but not very beneficial to karna..

Even after all these curses Karna manages to stand equal to arjuna

had krishna not pushed the chariot in the ground with his divine might, karna's arrow may have pierced arjuna's head...

karna's worst enemy was not arjuna...his worst enemy was his fate
