I look at mb more like a text with real life lessons in it. the characters are woven in such a beautiful manner by writer that it makes me develop my psychological understanding of human traits. also I am kimd of person who likes the fantasy world, with superpowers, divine stuffs. still second part of my mind does linger on the argument "whether this can b real or not".
in last it really doesnot matter whether this story is real or not, if I am able to get what this story teaches and i am able to impart few learnings in my real life too

That's a very sweet and honest comment. I hope one day realize the power of God. It is not up to me or any human to make anyone else
realise. It is up to God himself and one day you will know it

You have full rights to take MB as whatever you want to take.

May I ask you something if you don't think those miracles had real bearing on the story then wouldn't Krishna have been killed when he was a baby??? Do you think a human baby can fight a woman with poisoned milk even if we grant Putna was a human too. Or a child can kill the mighty Kansa??? And who do you think opened the prison doors?? Some soldiers of Kansa??? Or wouldn't Draupadi be really disrobed if there hadn't been a miracle

I am not asking all this to change your opinion. That's not my intension. I really want to know what is your take on this and how the story would have gone on without those miracles

Thanks for the clarification. The miracles that have been attributed to Krishna as a child are not there in the main Mahabharata. I'm not sure if they have been mentioned in the Harivamsha which is an appendix to the MB. As for Draupadi's disrobal, the BORI critical edition does not mention Krishna to be the one behind the miracle. Again it is something that I have not been able to reconcile with my faith. I just see it as an instance of Draupadi's pativrata dharma.

Edit: The MB also has this system of curses and boons. I take them as an integral part of the epic. I can also accept the miracles while keeping in mind that I should not try to connect them with 'what might have really happened' and certainly not use them as evidence for my arguments to drive home a religious point, which I often see done in the outside world. I just interpret them symbolically. Others on this forum have drawn some excellent interpretations.

But again, these are my thoughts and hence based on and biased by my beliefs.

Nandini, I actually am one of those people with a goodly amount of faith in God. But I am not Hindu. I have read a few versions of Mahabharat and I look at at it as philosophical and cultural enrichment for myself. I am not embarrassed to admit I am enjoying StarBharat as well; its soapy aspects appeal to (very prominent) plebeian side of me.
My understanding from what Ashwini wrote was that she believes in God from her personal experiences and not because of a text. I think that should be true in all our cases and God has to be accepted from the heart, no?

That does not mean I (and I think, from what they have written, Shrishti and Ashwini as well), do not respect what the text has to offer. It has immense life lessons. In fact, I used one of Krishna's seekhs to Panchali with one of our admins, the other day. The poor girl was robbed (her home was ransacked) and she was still shaking with rage 2 weeks afterward. I asked her why she was putting herself through hell for what other people did. Let me tell you, I am now looked upon as the Wise Woman of the West😆

That is extremely praiseworthy. Very few actually apply the lessons that they have learnt from what they read. Hats off to you! And yes Starbharat, inspite of some illogical things, do a very good job of actually trying to present the Geeta gyaan in a relatable way.

sometimes I do feel that starbharat cvs attempt to show lessons from mahabharat rather than presenting it as a war story. though many times their soapy touch does irritate us

Well I think a debate on God is very dangerous 😆 Though I am happy to know a nonhindu finds MB interesting. I too do not believe in God just because if the texts. I believe in God from my personal experience . I believe that Krishna is God but I also believe that there is no difference between Krishna and Christ or between him and any other name by which God is called by in this world. I believe in scripture because they talk of God not the other way round. I also believe in miracles of God not because they happened in MB but because they have happened to me

Anyway those are my personal views on God and his miracles be it in MB Or in today's world

I am sorry for jumping into such debates I generally avoid them 😆
