Response from BCCC on my complaint đ„±
Dear Ms. Diala,
This is with reference to your mail.
BCCC had received similar complaints against the programme "Mahabharat" on Star Plus. In view of the same Council viewed the episode dtd. 2.12.2013 and found a deviation from the earlier serials on Mahabharat. However, in keeping with its principle of non-interference with the channels' creative liberty, BCCC found no ground for intervening. BCCC had earlier adjudicated on mythological and historical serials like Life of Buddha and Jodha Akbar, giving channels the discretion to interpret mythology/history as per their creative rendition. The channel was, however, asked to be sensitive in such portrayals. The complaints were DISPOSED OF.
Yours sincerely,
Secretary General

When did you file that complaint? The episode that they watched was the one where the Pandavas claimed the yuvraj title from Dhritarashtra after returning following the defeat of Drupada. In that episode, the major distortion would have been the characterization of Drupada in the aftermath of his defeat.
Yeah, it was a distortion to show the Pandavas trying to influence Dhritarashtra in getting the yuvraj title, but not as major as some of the other things shown. Also, which early serials were they talking about? In BRC, it was a relatively uncontroversial issue from the Pandava end, while in RS-SK, I'm not sure it was covered. Even in DBSK, it was covered more or less accurately.
Yeah, it is interesting that they didn't think it worth reading Vyasa, or even any standard books on MB. Had they picked up the ACK volumes on the MB, they'd have instantly seen what's wrong

One issue I have with the the current storyline is because, by making it appear that the agyatvaas had just ended, or the debate between evening and night, they are making it appear that Duryodhan is borderline right, which means that the question of dharma and adharma and whether the 13 years were completed by the Pandavas properly becomes debatable (which might be what they are going for).
Secondly, having the raja of the place they spent their agyatwas in know who they were makes it feel less like a proper agyatwas. It also means that Draupadi could have just complained to Virat and got something done against Keechak - there was no need to go to such drastic lengths. Having the Kauravas work out where the Pandavas were also meant that literally everyone knows who they are - how is that an agyatwas? Just because they did not appear dressed in their correct ornaments and clothes, carrying their own weapons? The biggest issue of all that I have is the fact that the Pandavas so readily step up to challenge the 101 Kauravas (including Karna) in such a rash fashion, whereas in the original, this is where statesmanship and politics comes into play. A solution is sought in every way possible by Yudhishthira, with war being considered as the last resort. Multiple conferences and meetings are held to figure out every possible situation. This is fascinating as a glimpse of the working of a true statesman's mind, who is trying to save his clan and protect his kingdom at the same time. What the StarBharat has shown makes the Pandavas look impulsive, war-prone, and lacking empathy towards their kin. That just destroys the characters of the Pandavas completely for me.
