So She Wondered ..

Uttara feels so tired, her legs hurt and she is thirsty after going through such a rigorous training.Other girls in the quarter have spread out, sitting around and running after each other, talking about marriage and Men. Boring.

She sits on her favorite furniture with her dance teacher, Gurumata is looking outside at the beautiful sky lost in her own world. She does that a lot.

"Gurumata?'"

"Kahiye Rajkumari"

Uttara goes to sit on the floor close to her teacher. Her teacher turns and smiles dazedly at Uttara

"Aapka naam Brihnalla kisne rakha?"

"Madh ...Maa ... -__-"

"o_o"

" Maata ne rakha hai Rajkumari "

"Atyant Vichitra naam rakha hai ye to"

At this, her teacher laughs out so loud that all the other occupants of the room turn to look at them.

" Ab jo Vyakti swayam intna vichitra ho, usse hum aur kya aasha rakhe? Naam to Vichitra hona hi tha"

Uttara is extremely sad to realize that his teacher too have some mommy issues.Uttara's Mother is too busy being a damn Queen and gossiping about her new hot and super-beautiful hairstylist who every man and woman in the Palace eyeballs, but who is, unfortunately for the male population and thankfully for the female population, already married, and that too with five gandharvas.

"To aapko nritya aur sangeet ki kala unhone sikhayi hai kya?"

"Uhhh ...Nahi, Wo to Mere Pita Shri Indr ... Indradas ... ke ek mitra ne sikhayi hai"

"Oh!"

"Per Ve Nritya-Sangeet dono hi kalao me ati nipun hai, unka to koi jawaab hi nahi."

"Achha, aapko unse prerna mili hogi"

"Unse to mujhe her shan Prerna milti hai, Jaanti hain aap, ve Baansuri ati sundar bajate hai"

"Perantu, aapke jitna achha Veena to nahi bajati hongi?"

"Kabhi dekha to nahi hai, per awashya hi wo bhi achhe se hi karlenge, aisa koi kaam hi nahi hai jo vo na karsake"

"Ayesi baat hai kya?Unhe aur kya kya pasand hai?"

" Umm ... Unhe dhol bajana pasand hai"

"😕 "

"Ghamandi, Ahankari logo ka😆 "

"😲 "

"Unhe Kanyao ki raksha karna, unka marg darshan karna, logo ko achha sabak sikhane ... Mujhe ascharya-Chakit karna, Makkhan churana, etyadi pasand hai"

"o_O ... O_o"

Uttara is utterly confused; she had the whole jar here. Right HERE! Now her Husband will be coming back any second from his practice and demand for food. And Uttara had made butter for him with her own hands.

She looks around at the other women, there are multiple maids and some of his in-laws around. None of them could have taken the jar. What would they do with all the butter anyways? Who would steal butter from the royal kitchen? The maids will not dare. There are no children ... Not if you count all her brother in laws and some of his father-in-laws.

Who would steal butter then?

And a gentle voice is echoing in her mind, " Makkhan churana ..."

All of that now-weird and embarrassing conversation with her Father-In-Law comes back to her. Didn't he tell her some dirty secrets of his Mother. She snaps her head around and tracks Raj Maata Kunti with narrowed eyes.

She finds her sitting with Uncle Madhava's wives. She is smiling serenely and un-thief like. She looks innocent but who knows.

Uttara goes outside wondering about this dilemma, she paces in the backyard thinking about ways to confront the Raj Maata.

Arre Uttara, tum yaha kya kar rahi ho putri?"

Her Father in law is coming back from their weapon practice, meaning her Husband and other men of her family must not be too far.

" Wo Pita -Shri, aapko smaran hai aapne mujhe apne Mata Shri ke Vishay me kya bataya tha ... Matsya me ... Jab maine aapse pucha tha ki apka naam kisne rakha hai?"

Arjuna smiles wistfully at her, then he freezes for a moment.

"Oh! Haa .. Snmaran hai mujhe, per tum yeh kyu puch rahi ho .."

Uttara looks around with wide eyes, gives him a knowing look and whispers.

"Maine Arya ke liye apne haatho se Makkhan banaya tha, wo chori ho gaya."

A weird looks comes across her Father-In-law's face before a smile starts playing on his lips.

"Kya hua PitaShree aapko bhi lagta hai ki Aapki Maata Shri ne ..."

"Thodi prateeksha Karo putri sab samajh me a jayega ..."

And there comes her husband, with his uncle Krishna. They are laughing and Krishna is feeding him something from a jar that looks quite familiar.

"Arre Uttara, Kya Makkhan banaya hai tumne, Per tumne mujhe nahi diya? Sab Govind Mama ke liye hi banaya? Wo to mere mama is sansaar ke sabse achhe Mama hai isliye unhone mujhe bhi diya ..."

"O__O"

Krishna uncle gives her a (not so) guilty glance and smiles before turning his head to look at her Father-In-Law.

Said Father-In-Law gives a hearty laugh before taking the said uncles hand and dragging him away.

Between the chaos in my mind, she can hear the mock chiding tone, 'Madhava, Aap bhi naa, Makkhan khana tha to mujhe bata dete aise bhojan-kaksha se churane ki kya awashyakta thi ... ab Uttara kya sochegi?"

"Parth, ye ek baat hamesha smaran rahe, makkhan chura kar khaane me jo anand hai wo maang kar khaane me nahi hai, samjhe"

Father-in-Law chuckles, 'Ha Maadhav, jaisa aapka aadesh"

And so Uttara has a Eureka Moment, 'Maa ... Madhav😳"

"Priye Uttara, Kya hua?"

"Kuch nahi Aarya, bas samajh Aa gaya ki aapka bachpana aaj tak gaya kyu nahi ..."

"Huh😕?"

She goes away muttering, 'Ye to aapke khoon me hai"

Arjunas home -- To build a home, you don't need to build a house!

It is after they have traveled half way to Hastinapur after the end of war that he realizes it. He sits beside the beautiful dark figure of his friend while Daruka has the control of the chariot. It is a dull feeling"not really something he feels overly emotional about. They are going to Hastinapur. Hastinapur - Not home. It was never really that - a home.

Thanks to their mother, all of them had their priorities straight. Home was not a big palace filled with gold and riches, delicious food, expensive clothes and cold relatives. Reluctant and distant family is no really a family.
Sure, they had one or two people who genuinely cared about them, loved them as their own but Arjuna remembers how one of them had laid on a bed of arrows waiting for death - yearning for it. He feels he is just as guilty as his thankfully forever gone cousins for reducing their grandfather to such a state that he wanted to get away from this all by embracing death.Had they never come to hastinapur in the first place ...

He looks at the dark hand on his knee and cranes his head to glance at his friend"his Lord, his very soul. He doesn't look at Arjuna, just smiles and shakes His head. Arjuna is confident that His friend knew where his thoughts were going again"nothing is ever hidden from Him. So Arjuna relents and goes back to his thoughts about home.

Home - which is not Hastinapur... or Indraprastha for that matter. They have learned to make their home and it doesn't consist of building a house first. Over the years, definition of home has become extremely complex and complicated"like every beautiful thing is. Like the person sitting beside him.

Home was Fathers warm and commanding voice, their mothers laughing and crying together, sound of water hitting rocks and chirping of birds. Then home was mothers shadow and the fragrance in her hair in a magnificent palace where vindictive eyes followed them everywhere they went. Home was adoring looks of younger brothers and protective glances of older ones.

Home had been the sound of their own children fighting for sweets with Bhimsen, their outrageous cries and victory roars in the backyard of their palace.

Home was Panchalis firm orders to not bring her food to eat until everyone else in the palace including the visiting poor saints and yetis were done with their own meal.Home was the shadow of her hair under moonlight and her beautiful voice singing songs for Abhimanyu who refused to sleep anywhere else but in his elder mother's lap.

Home was subhadras pleas to their children to eat food while she ran after them, refusing any help from servants to feed them. Home was her soft giggles that lightened up the atmosphere of any place.

And home was dark blue skin and even darker eyes shining like the sun itself under the night sky when looking in those eyes was so much more important than appreciating the beautiful view of the sky decorated with the moon and stars and when listening to those words of great mysteries and philosophy was so much more important than everything else. Home was laughter of his beloved friend - sometimes loud, sneaky at the other times. Home was shared amusement with secret smile and raised eyebrows on the expense of everyone else who was not him and Him.

Home was the shared tears between brothers and wives and their mother and every living thing when He left. Home was the tender smile breaking on everyone's lips when a peacocks feather was in the view.

Home was their mothers affectionate and worried gaze sweeping over all her children. Home was Yudhishtiras embraced before and after wars and Bhimsenas hearty pats on the back. Home was his children fighting to sleep beside him and get his attention.

Home was so beautiful and complicated and now so many parts of it was lost and damaged - some missing parts would never be filled because they were irreplaceable. But - but they will fix their home again and it will be much smaller with a new base and some parts of it will be gone and scratched forever to remind them of their losses. But they won't give up their home after all they have gone through - because other parts of the home are stronger than ever and unbreakable now

He glanced at his friend again whose hand was around his shoulders now, this time He was looking back at him with His ever cheerful smile and nodding His head in encouragement and approval - As if He knows and of course, nothing is ever hidden from Him after all.

'Ready to go home, are you Partha?"

Arjuna can only laugh and laugh till he forgets he has a hundred more reasons to cry.

note: this happened because i was listening to home by cinematic orchestra -- listen tot man, really.
