Karna was a better archer, but he was ultimately killed by Arjuna, so my vote goes to the latter! Because Krishna may have praised Karna's feats on the battle field, but he supported Arjuna and helped him kill Karna. I sometimes envy Arjuna because of the love Krishna held for him.

Bheeshma and nobody else. Frankly had Bheeshma wished for the death of the Pandavas, the Pandavas would have had no chance.

To me it has been and always will be Arjuna. The reasons are manifold:
- The Virat war first off, where he defeats every warrior of the Kaurava army
- The 14th day of war, where in one day he destroys 7 out of 11 akshauhinis of the Kaurava army
- The war against the nivatakavachas in heaven, where Indra sends him alone to defeat them
- The war against the gandharvas, which even Karna ran away from
- The love and affection that he has for his elders and especially his guru, which temper his fighting
- The wonderful relationship he has with Krishna, which supersedes everything in world

I know that a lot of people have a lot of respect for Karna's fighting abilities, and so do I, but a lot of the sympathy I have for him reduced when he insulted Draupadi in the sabha and called for her to be disrobed, and when he teamed up with 6 others to kill Abhimanyu in the war. Of course he was also affected by being on the side of adharma, but my opinion is that a lot of what happened to him was also self-afflicted, because of the adharma he does. Even the translation of the Mahabharata quotes Krishna as calling him the "evil-minded one" many times.

Arjuna never defeated Chitrasena, they were fighting for sometimes until Arjuna realized its his own guru he is fighting against and they both stopped fighting.

Read the battle of Karna vs Gandharvas, He was annihaliting them, Chitrasena even used illusions on Karna, still Karna was immovable as hill, Karna had no support whatsoever, Gandharva's only motive in that war became to slay Karna, because he was destroying them, whole army broke his chariot, still he was fighting with his sword and shield until Vikarna came and took him away.

Most powerful warrior in Mahabharata was Karna, according to me.

It needed a perfect avatar, two curses, Indra's help and Kunti's request, Shalya's treahchery to kill the mighty warrior.

I just went back and read the translation - you are right - he does fight with valour and is forced to flee the war only when the gandharvas go all out.

Still doesn't change the other adharma he did. Your own deeds bring your karma upon you, says the Mahabharat, and that is what happens to Karna in the end. It is really sad but true.

After today's episode, undoubtedly it is Arjun. He was the most human and balanced character of Mahabharat. He was the chosen one to be the divine listener of the Geeta. Has anybody ever given a thought, why not Dharmraj Yudhishtir, why not Vrikodar Bheem, why not Anybody else but Arjun was chosen to hear the Geeta? It wasn't only a coincidence that he decided to quit the war and that is why. I think it was because he was the most human. A great warrior, should have balance between his emotions, feelings, and other opinions. Arjun possessed that undoubtedly. War is not only about strength, it has tactics. You use your grey matter. Arjun did that, and was the most efficient and just warrior of all time. He conquered the Kaurava army himself during the Virata Wae, which we will see tomorrow in StarB also. So it was nobody but Sabyasachi,Vibhatsu, Kurusattama, Dhananjaya. He was the greatest warrior in Mahabharat, and of all times.
