well i am sort of confused between bhishm and karna.
ranked in order
bhism-karna
arjun
drona
abhimanyu
bhim
even without his iccha mrityu vardan (which protects his life and dooes not protect him from getting defeated). karna was also equally strong. he was a good archer like arjun and kurukshetra war proved it. it was those curses he got because of which he died otherwise the war between karna and arjun would have not ended so fast. infact there were a few archers who were equal match or better than arjun. for e.g. eklavya, barbarik etc.

About the bhishma and karna tie, i read somewhere that when bhishma was on his shaiya ( arrow bed ) karna went to talk to him and bhishma told him that he was always rude to him because he was the best archer in the world and did not wanted him to be over confident .

Not to sound equivocal, but I believe, the epic had an army of players in the good vs. evil game, unlike the other revered book of ramayan. They were mere pawns pitted against each other. Each had their boons, instruments of death, their armors of protection and above all a destiny to fulfill. No one warrior does go all the way to the end fighting the other, besides Kshatriya dharma is too complicated and none did go by that during the war.

And, imagine without foul play the war perhaps would have continued forever.

Well, now the real answer about who among them is the powerful warrior is truly left to our imagination, for it is there that they would come face to face without deception and no fatal curses limiting their fullest potential.

i dont think that karna is equal to parshuram and bhishm is equal to parshuram and that has been proved. so in that context i say that it is a tie between bhishm and karna. its not just abt who is the best shot. it is also abt strategic thinking, skills of fighting etc..

The kalyug followed shortly afterwards. So how much of the dharma actually got established?

Ha ha ahhahahah wowowow 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
some thoughts to ponder over and a 100 $ question 😆😆😆😆😆

if Dharm had been established then Arrival of Mahavir and Gautam Budhh yet again another avtar of Vishnu would not have been necessary and followed by Adi Shankara Charya Jesus Chanakya etc etc.

From time to time these people took birth and tried their ;level best to establish dharm and upto a point they were succeful but human nature makes it difficult for dharm to live longer it's life is very very short

The four characters which definitely should be in the list:Bheesm,Drona,Karna,Arjun.
Many people have put Karna ahead of Arjun because of his way of killing in Mahabharat. But in that case Drona and Karna were also involved in unethical killing of Abhimanyu

It was Arjun who was not defeated by any of them in any war.
In Virat yudh ,he defeated all of them together without any help. Not only this when Duryodhan was kidnapped by Gandharv in front of Karna,it was Arjuna and Bheema who came for his rescue.Karna couldnt defeat Drupad but Arjun along with other Pandavs did

In Mahabharat there were many warriors on Kaurav side but in Pandav side the main warrior was always one and only Arjun.

( in my opinion )Karna is getting lot of attention from young generation. He is very interesting chanracter indeed .Someone who should be hero but he was the best friend of the main antagoinst.Someone who was humiliated a lot in his life still he fought bravely .But at the end of the day putting his loyalty blindly behind a person wasn't right.A person who always participates in wrong doings cant be a true friend.

On the other hand Arjun had his own weakness,But he always found his way back..In my view all of them are strong characters. All of them were definitely not inferior to Arjuna. They had their own strength. But its Arjun's show all the way.

Arjun for me...I admire Arjun for the way he said he can only see the bird's eye. I admire how he could shoot arrows at his beloved pitamaha, knowing that Bhishma was on the side of adharma. Duty comes first...I admire him for becoming emotional before war (he's not a robot)

I also admire Karna a lot but I didn't choose him because he lied to his guru that he's a brahmin. Ok he was thirsty for knowledge...even then...

The circumstances under which Arjuna and Karna were operating were quite different. We have to keep those in mind while comparing the two.

1-Karna was looked down upon because of his supposedly lower caste inspite of being Kunti's son. Arjuna was looked upon as the son of Pandu (King of Hastinapur) inspite of not being Pandu's son.
2- Both Karna and arjuna thirsted for knowledge. Arjuna had Drona as his teacher who tried his best to make arjuna the best archer even if it meant asking Eklavya for his thumb. Karna had no such access and therefore had to lie saying he was a Brahmin to have Parashuram as his teacher, who later cursed him when he found out the truth. (Actually if Karna's parentage was not definitely known Karna couldn't have been sure whether he was Brahmin, Kshatriya or a sut putra)
3- When Karna was dejected on being disqualified from contests only Duryodhan came to his support. When Arjuna was depressed at the battlefield having to fight his loved ones it was none other than Lord Krishna who came to his support.
4- Before the MB war Kunti disclosed to Karna about the pandavas being his brother. Inspite of the fact that he decided to remain loyal to one who stood by him it is not difficult to understand the turmoil he may have undergone while fighting against his own brothers. Unlike Karna, the pandavas did not have to face that turmoil while facing him as Kunti did not disclose the truth until after the war.
Had the Arjuna and Karna 's circumstances been interchanged it is very difficult to say how each would have reacted.
Of the two I still feel that Karna would be the greater warrior due to lack of a level playing field.

Agreed that Karna wasnt that fortunate like Arjuna.

But as far as level playing is concerned if one was student of Dronacharya other was of Parshuram

When you say about the termoil,Pandavs termoil was much bigger than Karna in Kurushestra. Arjuna had to fight Bhishm ,Dron along with rest .They were very dear to him.His introduction was always "Drona Shishya"

And there was a reason that Krishna was with Arjun.Krishna came to support when Arjun was devastated with the thinking of killing of relatives .

Karna was a warrior but like other characters he was flawed too.At best he is the tragic hero of Mahabharatha.

In my opinion the selection should be on the course what happened and not what would have happened.

And Mahabharat too give a great details about Arjun's life but not that deal of Karn's life

Whatever I know,on basis of that I admire Arjun ...Through his journey we saw different facets of life and ultimately Gita ka Gyan
