You have to count Karna's mental state when he was fighting in Kurekshetra, Here is an Article by
Star Plus' Factually Incorrect Mahabharata facebook page on how Karna was handicapped during the war.
Karna was fighting all the time with one hand tied behind his back. 1. Krishna had stolen away his hatred and antagonism of the Pandavas.
2. He had granted asylum to four Pandavas.
3. He said he would kill Arjun only but deep in his heart he really did not wish to - no elder brother would knowingly want to kill a younger sibling.
4. Bhishma did not want him and prevented him to fight.
5. Krishna cleverly avoided direct confrontation with him and Arjun and a few time that inevitably faced each other, used his magical hypnotic powers to confuse him in not using the shakti against Arjun.
6. On top of that, Karna was living with two curses which would render him impotent at the most crucial and final time of the battle.
They don't only use one source but they use multiple accurate sources.
