The brother thing cant be true.In Karna Parva Krishna said Karna and Duryodhana laughed joyously after Abhimanyu was killed. They probably weren't thinking like uncles and brothers, just warriors probably.
Just my thought.

You have to count Karna's mental state when he was fighting in Kurekshetra, Here is an Article by Star Plus' Factually Incorrect Mahabharata facebook page on how Karna was handicapped during the war.

Karna was fighting all the time with one hand tied behind his back.

1. Krishna had stolen away his hatred and antagonism of the Pandavas.
2. He had granted asylum to four Pandavas.
3. He said he would kill Arjun only but deep in his heart he really did not wish to - no elder brother would knowingly want to kill a younger sibling.
4. Bhishma did not want him and prevented him to fight.
5. Krishna cleverly avoided direct confrontation with him and Arjun and a few time that inevitably faced each other, used his magical hypnotic powers to confuse him in not using the shakti against Arjun.
6. On top of that, Karna was living with two curses which would render him impotent at the most crucial and final time of the battl
e.

They don't only use one source but they use multiple accurate sources.

Background of a warrior has to taken into account when comparing two warriors. He was fighting his brother, ofcourse he would have generated a soft corner for him.

None of the choices u mentioned were as powerful as barbarik, the son of ghatotkach ,who could slay the entire armies of both sides barring krishna and bhishma, with a single arrow.

Yudishtra said he mourns for Karna's death more than he did for Abhimanyu.. so that is the difference between the death of a a nephew and a brother..

3. He said he would kill Arjun only but deep in his heart he really did not wish to - no elder brother would knowingly want to kill a younger sibling.

If that is true then no brother would be laughing joyously after the younger brother's son gets murdered. Doesn't add up.

Thanks for sharing article.. he obviously had soft corner for them...else why wud he want yudhistir to be king...Since everyone believes in citations so much... this is from krishna-karna convo..
"If king Yudhishthira, of virtuous soul and well-controlled senses, cometh to know me as the firstborn son of Kunti, he will never accept the kingdom. If, again, O slayer of Madhu, this mighty and swelling empire becometh mine. I shall, O repressor of foes, certainly make it over to Duryodhana only. Let Yudhishthira of virtuous soul become king for ever. He that hath Hrishikesa for his guide, and Dhananjaya and that mighty car-warrior Bhima for his combatants, as also Nakula and Sahadeva, and the sons of Draupadi, is fit, O Madhava, to rule over the whole earth. Dhrishtadyumna,"

you said this was said by krishna... it might be an attempt to provoke arjun too... there are lot of instances which can be interpreted and analysed in different way... I dont think there is any doubt that Karna's hatred for pandavas had reduced... after knowing that they are his own kin...

He gave jeevan-daan 2 all his bros except Arjuna. So a strong evidence is needed to prove anything here. I don't think he had a soft corner for Arjuna, bt he certainly had it 4 others.

There's proof in Yudhi's case..not in Arjuna's case.
