ofcourse I know he did mourn.. but Karna's got worser though afaik they were not into any personal relationship earlier... which clearly means there is a difference between brother and nephew..

and so Karna praising Arjun is not a big deal...

for me its more tough choice because like in cricket match there are few really strong teams, and have their own fair share of victories and defeats! so saying oh this team is not better than that team because it won,or was playing on home ground had its advantage or some luck factor contributed or was unlucky does undermine that team caliber! in the end of day we support our fav team and that's strongest for us!

As far as I know, that particular mourning happened in stree parva , after Kunti's big revelation,
Yudi was beside himself in grief when gatotokach died and they all collectively mourned Abhimanyu too. and Yudi was especially sad and beside himself with death of ghatotkach, who, as is mentioned several times in the epic, was his most favorite nephew.

After war, when the bombshell of such a dangerous truth was dumped on them by kunti, they all were carried away with emotion and mourned karna more but that has less to do with brother and more to do with the fact the nature of relevation at that time and guilt of the pandavas.

But that does not mean when in warrior mode, karna did not rejoice abhimanyu's death. and his grief in gatotkach's death was because the loss of Indra's shakti.
Even Shalya did not spare NS or the pandava side when fighting for kauravas. Its not the honour of fighters and not possible in the heat of the war as well.

but then again what do I know
I read a different MB from the one certain people read

This isn't a myth completely. They must have wanted to shorten the war sequence and hence they didn't show that Shikhandi wasn't present on Arjuna's chariot whole day. But they didn't show him laying down his weapons completely. He continued attacking others.

Moreover, why are we discussing only the archers - Bheeshma,Arjuna,Karna and Abhimanyu?Cannot a mace fighter or a sword fighter be more powerful than these archers?????😕
According to me,the powerful warrior should be the one who can deal with the attack of any kind of weapon either with his special weapon or any other weapon!😛

And what was Shakuni's special weapon???😆

Its partially a myth, aint it?. Most people have this misconception that after seeing Sikhandi, Bhishma laid down all his weapons while Arjuna attacked the weaponless Bhishma.

Bhishma too attacked Arjuna " Bhishma, the valiant son of Santanu, as if for the object of consuming the Pandavas, hurled a dart at Partha. Partha, however, caused that dart to drop down"

Sikhandi was on Arjuna's chariot the whole day, still Bhishma attacked Arjuna.

@LeadNitrate- I think all of us follow same MB which u read... its just that perspectives of looking at it differs... and it depends more on which character we kind of relate more with... We tend to look more at their perspectives than other. As I told Diala...my choice of greatest warrior is more owing to my biasness .. That doesnt mean I am correct... that states my opinion.. i m not really sure if they are greatest of all... as there isnt one parameter to judge these characters... Everyone was good in their own areas..with their own advantages/disadvantages... You cant compare Bheem in wrestling with Karna..similarly you cant compare Karna in archery with Bheema... similarly ..for Arjun, Karna n Bheeshma in archery.. you cant compare them.. since they had their own plus n minuses...for me even Abhimanyu is in their league .. but I really dont know if there was ever a fair competition between all of them... may be we wud have a winner...

Also,if Arjuna had his Gandiva and Krishna for his help; Karna also did have his own celestial bow and Kavacha-Kundalas!!And they also have their respective weapons...

Someone said that Karna was defeated in Draupadi's Swayamvar just because Arjuna took out Brahmashira and Karna did not use it as he did not want to use it against a Brahmana...So,as far as I know,Karna did not have Brahmashira...Only Arjuna,Ashwatthama and Drona had that!😕
