Following this, the Pandavas decide how to spend the next 1 year.
Y: I'm at a loss. I can't tell a lie.
P: I have a way out. I'll name you Mantri Kanka. Go w/ that name for the next 1 year.
Y: Dhanyavad, Panchali.
P: I have suggestions for the rest of you as well.
B: Panchali, Arjun doesn't need any suggestions. In fact, I'd watch out for my clothes if I were you.
P: Why?
B: It's something Madhav taught him š
P: Okay, what about you?
B: I have no issue lying. I'll be a cook, named Ballav. I'll take over the Virata kitchen
P: Arya Nakul & Sahadev, I have suggestions for you. Nakul, you be the stable guy and go by the name Dharmagranthi. Sahadev, you be a cowherd, and go by the name Tantripal.
N: Panchali, what will you do?
S: Brata, don't ask.
N: Why?
That night, when they all sleep, Arjun gets Panchali covered in all his clothes. He then manages to skillfully remove what she is wearing, except her blouse & pettycoat. In the morning, Panchali wakes up & is startled to see a newly clean-shaven Arjun, w/ sindoor on his maang and Panchali's bangles, payels & so on. š
P: Arya, what are you wearing? š²
A: Look familiar? š
P: Duh!!! Arya, those are my clothes. Who will say that it's Arjun if you are wearing them?
A: Precisely!!!
P: Now that you mention it, it sounds brilliant. But if you're wearing all that, what am I wearing?
A: My clothes. I left your blouse & pettycoat, so that you don't feel uncomfortable. But above that, you should wear my clothes.
B: Panchali, we do need something more. Your untied hair is a dead giveaway.
P: So what do you suggest?
S: I have an idea. Don't question it. Just close your eyes.
Panchali closes her eyes, and Sahadev takes his opportunity & shaves her head. He then asks Nakul to shave his head, & stick his hair on to Panchali. In return, Panchali's hair is stuck on him. Panchali then opens her eyes.
P: Arya, what did you just do? š²
S: We exchanged hair. Now nobody will identify you as Draupadi. You're safe.
P: But Arya, you can't tie that hair either.
S: I don't need to. We men don't tie our hair š
N: Panchali, there are some more changes that we could make.
P: No, Arya, I think I've seen enough. I'll go like this.
B: What will you be?
P: A dwarpal, given what yall have made me š
Y: Panchali, make good use of the bhala, like I taught you š
P: Oh, Govind!!!
However, Govind is too busy playing dice w/ Subhadra, Kunti & Rukmini to listen.
The Pandavas then move to Matsya, where they begin their duties.
