So the Defense of Marriage Act, which the US supreme court shot down, can now be debated in the courts of Dhritarashtra & Yudisthir? As well as Drupada, Krishna, Jarasandha, et al? 😆

Arijit, it was a law passed in the US Congress that stated that if any state chose to sanction same-sex marriages, other states did not have to recognize it as a marriage. This law was passed when some states, like HI, VT passed laws legalizing same sex marriage, so that other states could continue to not recognize them.

This law was challenged in the US Supreme Court & overturned. It makes same sex marriage a fait accompli in the US, which had been the one major country in the West that outlawed it.

So, in this serial, we could have Vyasa, Krishna & others discuss whether 2 women could be allowed to marry each other.

In fact, in the original, that's precisely what Shikhandini did. She was discovered by her wife, and that almost started a war, b4 she did her sex change.

You know that Matashree selected Pitashree in swayamvara - Mata Madri too would have done the same - you didn't need to do it. Why get yourself hated and cause so much pain? And I'd rather that you had never gotten Rajkumari Gandhari married to Taatshri: we now have 100 enemies as a result. She could have married Jarasandha, who'd have had an empire big enough for all her 100 sons.

A: Please don't say that, Pitamaha. I can't bear the idea of there being no Nakul or Sahadev. And I have fond memories of choti Matae. How I used to help her pluck flowers b4 Nakul/Sahadev was born.

B: You're thinking of family, but I was thinking of the state. We needed a lot of princes who could rule if mishaps happen. Reason I'm thinking this should have been done is that then perhaps, Shakuni wouldn't have poisoned the minds of his nephews against his cousins. He'd probably have quietly gone back to Gandhara for good.

A: Nonetheless, Pitamaha, we don't think you should bully other kingdoms into giving us their princesses, when we can get it on our own. I won Draupadi's swayamvara, and besides that, married Uloopi, Chitrangada & Subhadra. Brata Bhima - even that Rakshashi princess Hidimbi was so enticed by him - she's now my bhabi. ❤️ We have no problems getting our own wives.

Arjun takes his leave. After a while, Duryodhan comes in. Bheeshma tries to cheer him up

B: Putr, don't be disheartened. I can always get you a princess from any kingdom you like.

D: No, pitamaha, I'm just not in that mood. Besides, I overheard Arjun's conversation, and for once, I agree w/ him: we should find our own brides.

Duryodhan leaves, and Bheeshma is left in tears.

Can you please write a swayamvadhu script for poor Duri? I mean, the Pandavas are taking wives like nobody's business, and bechara Duri gets ditched at the alter

Even Apsaras, Rakshashis besides Humans can be invited for this Swayamvadhu. May be his other bros can find their vadhu too here. No one should be disappointed.

It will be worth watching (imagining), seeing Duryodhan with vadhumala in his hand, walks slowly past all the girls, with mamashree with him, giving his expert advise.

Duryodhan returns to Hastinapur and is in a foul mood. No wives to date, while the Pandavas have landed many - Hidimba, Draupadi, Uloopi, Chitrangada, Subhadra... He heads to Dhritarashtra's gym and starts tossing daggers @ targets.

Dhritarashtra calls a meeting of his government. Gandhari, Bheeshma, Vidura, Shakuni, Kripacharya & Ashwatthama.

D: There is a reason I've called this council. Following the events @ Dwarka, we are in a bind. We have been insulted by Krishna, but we can't attack Dwarka w/o declaring that Arjun is not a part of this family, and to do that, we'd have to expel Indraprastha from this kingdom, which we don't want to do.

S: Maharaj, we are weak on alliances. The Pandavas now have Drupada, Krishna and Ghatotkacha as their allies, while we have nobody. We ought to think about cementing our allies. The best way I can think of is matrimonial alliances. You have 100 sons: get them married to 100 or more princesses, and you'll automatically have 100 kings who can support you.

G: Brata Shakuni, you are forgetting one thing. Our daughter Duhsala is still unmarried. Until we get her married, we can't start work on getting her brothers married.

S: Why not? It's you who have taught her that the Pandavas too are her brothers, but all 5 of them are now married - nobody thought of waiting for her. Why should hamare bachcheyyy be the only ones to suffer? 😈

D: Gandhar naresh is right, Gandhari. We will get Duhsala married later - we know that Jayadrath can be won over to our side. We need to think of other plans.

A: Maharaj, I have a plan. I think it's worthy of even Gandhar naresh.

D: Why don't you let us in on it?

A: Maharaj, this is the thing. There are 100 kings, or close to that, in Jarasandha's dungeons in Magadha. While they are there, their kingdoms are defenseless, particularly if one gets Jarasandha's approval. So here is my plan. Send a messenger to Jarasandha asking him to allow those princesses to be sent on an edict to Hastinapur for a Swayamvadhu. The princesses will have to come here.

Once they are here, have a Swayamvadhu ceremony. Let Duryodhan go first, and pick whoever he wants for a wife. After that, send Dushashan to pick anybody out of the remainder. After that, Duhsaha and so on, and the last one, have Virajas (youngest of the Gandhari putras) pick from the remaining. If there are more, let your sons decide if they want to marry them as well or not, or if they are sisters of already selected brides, you can have them given to their jijas.

D: That's a great idea, Ashwatthama. Maybe we can do that. I'll send Sanjaya on a mission to Magadha to get Jarasandha to agree. But what can we give him in return?

V: Maharaj, remember you had given Anga to Karna? Well, now he is no longer king, and that kingdom is w/o one. So here's what you can do - ask him to have all those princesses sent to Hastinapur, and in return, offer him the province of Anga as a gift, which is contiguous to his kingdom and which he can then annex.

K: Maharaj, while you do all this, I agree w/ Maharani Gandhari. If you do have a suitable groom in mind for Duhsala, you should invite him here first and give her in marriage. Otherwise, all these alliances won't portend well for your kingdom.

D: I'm sending Sanjaya to Magadha. So who can I send to Sindhu?

S: Why not Mahamahim Bheeshmmm? 😈 To date, he has always gone to other kingdoms asking for their princesses. Now, instead, he can go to Sindhu and ask for their king 😆

G: Maharaj, why don't we do it this way? Send Bheeshma to Magadha to propose his plan to Jarasandha, and come back w/ the princesses, like he's done for 3 generations, including w/ me (looking @ Shakuni & smirking)

D: Excellent idea, Gandhari. And we can send Shakuni to Sindhu to offer his dear bachche's hand to Jayadrath

G: Maharaj, can't we give Duhsala a proper swayamvara and invite only our allies? Even exclude kingdoms who are friends of the Pandavas?

D: No!!! I agree w/ Duryodhan & Gandhar Naresh - Jayadrath would be the best ally to have in that area. He's not far from evil Krishna's Dwarka, and can invade them if Krishna continues to do things to displease us 😡 In fact, that's what so great about Sindhu - we ourselves can't wage war against Dwarka w/o removing Indraprastha, but we can have Jayadrath do it for us 😈

Gandhari sadly shuts up.

D: So Taatshree, please go to Magadha w/ this message for Jarasandha, asking him to allow you to bring to me all the princesses of the kings he's about to kill. I'd like them to get married b4 he does his great sacrifice. Gandhar-raj, please go to Sindhu to Raja Jayadrath w/ a marriage proposal for my Duhsala

A: Maharaj, I have another concern, and another plan to ensure the success of this one. What if Krishna and Arjun ally and try to liberate as many princesses as possible b4 they fall into our hands? That will make their kingdoms our enemies. We need to guarantee against that.

D: How do you suggest it?

B: Maharaj, may I suggest something? Kunti. I suggest that we send Vidura w/ a message to Indraprastha, telling the Pandavas that Kunti will be handed over to them in a ceremony in Dwarka, but for that to happen, all of them, including the Yadavas - Krishna, Balarama, all 5 Pandavas, Bhupati Ghatotkacha, Drupada, Dhrishtadyumna, Shikhandini and anyone else we can think of must be present. And they must stay there for a whole year or whatever time we need until your sons are safely married.

D: I am weary of that, since I suspect Vidura's loyalties.

A: I've thought of a way out against that as well - here, even if Krishna & the Pandavas know our plan, they'd be powerless to stop it. The plan calls for all of them & their allies to be in Dwarka to receive Kunti, and if any of them are not present, Kunti doesn't get handed over. Kunti will be escorted by Karna, pitashree, kakashree & myself. B/w the 4 of us, we can prevent the Pandavas & Krishna from trying to capture Kunti by force, or breaking out of that area for the stipulated time until we get news of the success of their marriages. Once that's done, we'll leave, and Kunti will be free to go to Indraprastha, along w/ the rest of her family.

D: What if they refuse the proposal?

A: Tell them that Kunti will be executed? 😈

D: I like the idea. That's settled then?

Accordingly, Bheeshma goes to Magadha and gets Jarasandha's approval. Vidura goes to Indraprastha w/ Dhritarashtra's proposal, and the Pandavas along w/ Draupadi, Subhadra, Hidimbi, Ghatotkacah, Drupada, Dhrishtadyumna & Shikhandini head for Dwarka. Once they are there, Vidura returns to Hastinapur and informs them, and Karna goes as Kunti's charioteer accompanied by Drona, Kripa & Ashwatthama. Vrushali, who is pregnant, is sad @ Karna leaving, so Kunti asks Priyamvada to take care of her, warning her that if anything happens to Vrushali or her baby, she'll spill Karna's secret to the Pandavas, and Priyamvada's wishes will be crushed. Priyamvada moves into Karna's house and takes over as Vrushali's nurse. Karna thanks her and promises Vrushali that he'll be back in time.

In the meantime, Shakuni returns to Hastinapur w/ Jayadrath, who marries Duhsala w/ great pomp and ceremony. Following that, Bheeshma arrives @ Hastinapur w/ 130 princesses, and the Swayamvadhu is held. Jayadrath agrees to attend these mass weddings w/ Duhsala. Duryodhan picks Bhanumati, the princess of Trigartha, as his wife. Similarly, Dushashan and others pick their brides until all the 130 princesses have been selected. Duhsala gets cramps from doing so many gaatbandhans following her own wedding. Finally, all the marriages are done, officiated by Sudharma, the head priest of the Kauravas. Dhritarashtra, Gandhari & Shakuni bless all the couples.

Adiratha is then sent by Bheeshma to Karna and his party, asking them to release Kunti to the Pandavas and allow them all to return to their kingdoms. He gets there quickly and asks him to hurry, since Vrushali could be delivering very soon. An excited Karna takes Kunti, accompanied by the Drona, Kripa & Ashwatthama. The Pandavas are happy to see them. Karna tells them that they are free to return to Indraprastha w/ Kunti, since the marriages of the Kauravas are complete.

Krishna again invites Karna to be their guest, but Karna refuses, telling him that his wife needed him more than he did, and not to waste his time. Arjun was livid, but Ashwatthama confronted him. Kunti silenced Arjun and told him that it was important that Karna get back to his wife, who was pregnant. Just then, Subhadra too arrived, and after bowing to Kunti, welcomed her w/ the news that she was pregnant. Kunti hugged her, tears rolling down her cheeks, and then turned around and ordered Karna to return to Vrushali within 1 day. Bhima told him that if you are as good a charioteer as you are an archer, that should be easy. Yudisthir told him to maun raho 😆 The Pandavas accompanied by Krishna & Balarama & everyone else all returned to Indraprastha, w/ Kunti giving 24/7 company to Subhadra and singing lullabuys to Subhadra's womb

Karna returned to Hastinapur within the day, and joined Priyamvada. She told him that Vrushali was getting close and could deliver any day now. Just then, Radha came in and welcomed Karna. She had him bathe, get fresh and then Adiratha, Radha, Karna & Priyamvada all went into Vrushali's room.

Vrushali was glad to see Karna and ran to him, and in her excitement, bumped into him. ❤️ That hurt her bump and she started going into labor. She grabbed Karna's & Priyamvada's hands w/ each of her own and started squeezing them hard. Priyamvada fainted, while Karna's kavacha came to the fore and he continued. Radha started screaming @ Vrushali to push, push, PUSH, and finally, a baby broke thru the vyuha of the birth canal. 😳

Vrishasena was born, and that was the happiest day in Karna's life
