Another Doubt

If those born to a Kshatriya father and a Brahmana Mother were recognized Sutas why Draupadi addressed Karna 'Sutaputra'!?😕

Sutas were a clan unto themselves. Their original ancestor must have been a Suta- i. e born to a Brahmin Mother and a lower caste father. But since then, all their descendants would be termed "Sutas". In fact it was a rule that Sutas could marry only amongst themselves. Karna mentions this specifically

However it is a myth that Sutas were ridiculed, etc. They were very much a part of the larger society and the same caste rules which applied to the other castes applied to them too.

Sutas were well known for their chariot driving and story telling skills. Just look at the reception which Suta Ugrasrava get from the rishis at Naimisharanya.

both ways.. but am sure Yadavas were not considered equal to Kshatriyas.. that is why Madri says that by birth she is better than Kunti and Pandu did not oppose..

Yadavas were not kings. They were ,at best chiefs of local principalities.

Madri's claim may have been based due to Kunti's Naga mother. Nagas were clearly considered inferior in the Aryavrata society.

Karna's foster parents were Sutas.. So Karna was Sutaputra who is of a lower status than a Suta.. I read somewhere outside that Adiratha's father was the King of Anga..

Thank You Diala! Got this from wikipedia.

Sta is also mentioned as a class of people in the epic Mahbhrata, often charioteers. The foster-parents of Karna, a great hero of Kurukshetra War, were Stas. Hence Karna too was considered as a Sta.Kichaka the commander of Matsya army was a Sta.

Weren't sutaputras lower in cadre than sutas? I remember reading that somewhere.. Karna is never addressed as Suta but Sutaputra..

Am reading 'Mahabharatam Pesugiradhu' by Cho Ramaswamy which is a condensed prose of Vyasa Mahabharat (narrated by Ugrasrava Sauti @ Naimisha Forest).. The writer confirms that he has not included any folklore that is outside this narration.

Over here I read that Gandhari was married to Dhridhrashtra along with her 10 younger sisters. 😕 So Dhrid had 11 wedded wives.

This is something I could not find in KMG Translation. Does anyone have any idea about this?

according to veda vyasa mahabharata dhritarstra was married to 111 wives out of them gandhari was first and beloved wife😉 and what u read is true drit had married to 10 sisters of gandhari and 100 different princesses .only gandhari is remembered bcoz she bore sons(children) and other wives remain barren

do u know Arjun also have 100+ wives out of them only 4 wives had children

In those days only those wives are given importance who had children

P.S. It is shocking that almost every king or prince used to have many wives

as far as i know when krishna once visited drupada's kingdom after draupadi and dristadyumna were born from yagna , drupada offered krishna to marry draupadi but krishna denied ⭐️.
this is given in bhagavatam also i remember reading in bhagavatam , on being asked by someone(don't remember the name) on his non-participation as a compititor krishna answered that he was not interested to achieve the feat again(as he have achieved it in swayamvara of mitravinda)😆
