Actually Shukracharya- decreed that the sons of his daughter and her husband will not be called Sutas.

So the Yadavas were very much Kshatriyas- not Sutas.

Their mothers were Kshatriya woman.. Though it was Vyasa who fathered them, he was appointed on behalf of Vichitravirya a Kshatriya so Dhrid and Pandu are Kshatriyas..
Vidur is not a Kshatriya though considered son of Vichi because his mother was a maid

Gandharvas are not elves... and certainly not Dobby / Winky / Kreacher from Harry Potter's world.

Yes, they are different from humans.

According to our scriptures, Gandharvas have been placed above Pitrus and Kinnars but below Yakshas, Devas and Siddhas. After death, a person's atma- becomes a pitru - (Pitrus are one step higher than living humans) and that atma - if liberated from the cycle of rebirth goes one step higher and becomes a kinnar. Pitrus and kinnars have the ability to bless - but not give boons.

Kinnars then graduate to become Gandharvas.

Gandharvas are guardian deities of music / dance and painting (not sculpture - that's the department of yakshas). If a human being becomes extraordinarily talented in any of the fine arts, it is believed that he has been blessed by a gandharva- or a gandharva has taken rebirth in the form of a human being.

Gandharvas have the capacity to influence the love / sex life of humans- hence the term Gandhava Vivah.

Gandharvas are supposed to be very good looking with striking features, very graceful and lithe- but frivilous, romantic and easy going

Gandharvas (in fact any being above humans) obviously do not need food like us - nor are constricted by the limitations of human bodies. They do not die in the physical sense- but cannot remain forever gandharvas because they too have to graduate to higher levels.

At a higher plane than the Gandharvas are the Yakshas, then the Devas and then the Siddhas.

wow I din't read that anywhere.. Thanks Varaali.. But they were not equal to Kshatriyas as far as I know.. Krishna was also here and there taunted in the MB for his non-kshatriya status..

Another Doubt

If those born to a Kshatriya father and a Brahmana Mother were recognized Sutas why Draupadi addressed Karna 'Sutaputra'!?😕

Vidura was not considered a son of Vichi. Dhrit and Pandu were adopted into the Kuru gotra - which Vidura was not.

In fact no one expected Vidura to be born in the first place. He became a part of "Buy One Get One Free..." 😆

Karna's foster parents were Sutas.. So Karna was Sutaputra who is of a lower status than a Suta.. I read somewhere outside that Adiratha's father was the King of Anga..

Actually he was called a Cowherd...may be due to his raising in Gokul!🤔

I think he wasn't critisized for being Yaduvanshi.

Oh no he was considered son of Vichi.. if you read the Pandu crowned King section you will see a note that Dhrid was not crowned because he was blind and Vidur not crowned he being son of maid.. If he is not Vichi's son, this explanation is not required at all.. actually there is an argument too that Vidur was elder than Pandu for this mention of his name here..

both ways.. but am sure Yadavas were not considered equal to Kshatriyas.. that is why Madri says that by birth she is better than Kunti and Pandu did not oppose..
