Mahadev steps in to stop the fight between Parshuram and Bhishma

Mahabharat is a tale of epic proportions. Within this tale there is yet another battle that is fought between Parshuram and Bhishma. Mahadev comes and stops this fight between them.

It was with a broken leg and a heart seeking justice, that Amba made her way to Parshuram. She longed to be righted. She believed it was Bhishma who wronged her and deprived her of a happy future. However, Bhishma had no intention of causing Amba any harm. Amba however is blinded by the hurt and helplessness of her situation. Hence, she seeks revenge.

Parshuram refuses to help her with her plans but her persistence causes him to give in to her petition. Upon meeting Parshuram, Bhishma tries to explain to Parshuram that his heart was in the right place and he in no way sought to rob princess Amba of her happiness but Parshuram is unwilling to hear further. A battle ensues between them. Tonight stepping down from the heavens is Mahadev himself.

Tune in tonight at 8:30 PM and watch Mahadev on Mahabharat! Exclusively on your favourite channel STAR Plus.

Bollywood's take on telly's Mahabharat

Bollywood's take on telly's Mahabharat
A still from new Mahabharat
The latest version of Mahabharat, which airs on Star Plus, has not only got the youth of the country hooked to the great epic, but it's also winning accolades from the Indian film industry. While the marketing campaign of the show generated huge interest " with the promise of never-before-seen grandeur on Indian television " it's good to see that the show has lived up to the expectations. TOI spoke to some prominent names in Bollywood to know what they had to say about the show...

Mahesh Bhatt: "It's clearly the mother of all serials. The scale on which it has been shot shows that the makers have backed the content to the fullest. A majority of this country is under the age of 30 and will get an opportunity to inhale this great epic with a top-class visual narrative. I won't be surprised if it goes on to create history."

Ashutosh Gowariker: "From what I have seen till now, I feel that this one might match up with BR Chopra saab's Mahabharat. It is very well executed. The sets are grandiose and the costumes are beautiful. The dialogues keep the essence of Sanskrit, at the same time making it palatable to the audiences today.

Neil Nitin Mukesh: "The way they have used Krishna is very interesting. He is going to get a lot of female fans for sure. I was also very impressed with the overall production, as I have never seen a show of such a grand scale on Indian television."

Sonu Sood: "Bhishma is such an important character in Mahabharat and Aarav Chaudhary has performed the role superbly. This show would have been such a challenge with all the burden of comparison and expectation."

Richa Chadda: "There was a lot of talk about this show and it has met the expectations. It might open up avenues for more such elaborate production ventures on television."

Minnisha Lamba: "I think Amba's (played by Ratan Rajput) character is going to become very popular as it's a strong performance. I am now looking forward to watch Draupadi."

TELEVISION STARS TALK ABOUT MAHABHARAT

Just a week into its launch, STAR PLUS' magnum opus MAHABHARAT has become the talk of town especially with great reviews coming in from all corners of the country. Here's what our television stars have to say about the epic that is gaining a great momentum.

Saraswatichandra's Gautam Rode states, "I am a keen follower of Mahabharat and trying to catch up on the show. I like the way Bheeshma's character played by Arav has been etched out. Also Puneetji's look as Parshuram is godly. His fight is against injustice at a larger societal level. There is a lot to learn from him and I strongly relate to the righteousness and goodness of his character."

Deepika aka Sandhya from Diya Aur Baati Hum says, "A lot of people may view Satyawati differently to me she signifies the strength of a woman and mother. Her striking personality and the fight to ensure her children get their rights is beautifully shown. The entire look of the show from the first episode is new age, grand and beautiful. I am definitely going to be tuned in to watching the episode as this one tale is the mother of all stories."

Nakul Mehta aka Aditya of Pyaar Ka Dard Hain Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara says, "I have loved whatever I have seen so far of Mahabharat and the way it's presented. The dialogue writing is commendable; especially the seekh' you get from Krishna is a lesson to remember for all. This one story has always caught my fascination and hope that more and more people take the leanings out of this."

Disha Parmar aka Pankhuri of Pyaar Ka Dard Hain Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara says, "Every character of Mahabharat has a strong motive and a story attached to it. If you follow it closely you will see its relevance and apply it in our day to day life. Personally I loved Bheeshma's entry and the war sequence, it was more film like. Arav looks the part and plays Bheeshma perfectly well. It's a good move to bring the story back with a modern touch."

Supriya Pilgaonkar who plays Amrit Shergill in Meri Bhabhi says, "The makers have left no stone unturned, kudos for all the efforts. My most favourite character is obviously lord Krishna. I appreciate that his presence is shown right from the first episode. Like a true sutradhaar all the words that come out of his mouth are pearls and I follow them very carefully so that I can apply it in life. I was happy to see Ratan portraying Ambaa, she was phenomenally good. I congratulate the makers and broadcasters and thank them for giving us Mahabharat in today's political scenario."

With such great reviews and praises we are sure that Mahabharat will enthrall the audience and build some great followers ahead.

With Parshuram I will set a benchmark: Puneet Issar
Gayatri Deshmukh, TNN | Sep 23, 2013, 12.25 PM IST

With Parshuram I will set a benchmark: Puneet Issar
Puneet Isaar as Parshuram

Actor Puneet Issar who played the role ofDuryodhan in BR Chopra's Mahabharatessays the role of Parshuram in the new Mahabharat aired on Star Plus. The actor got in a candid chat TOI. Experts of the interview

In your long career in Indian television you've played a number of roles. What do you find special about Parshuram?Basically Parshuram is a Vishnu avatar who came to Earth before Ram. He is a very strong character and also very nuanced.

You've portrayed Durodhana in B R Chopra's Mahabharat and now you play Parshuram. Any difference in the way you've approached these two characters? These are two entirely different characters. Duryodhan was a prince fighting for his throne. He was powered by ambition and aspiration. Parshuram is godly. His fight is against injustice at a larger societal level. I've enjoyed playing both the characters.

How did you prepare for this role? I had been doing a lot of research on Parshuram as I wanted to do something around his character. So when I got the call from Siddharth, I was curious to know about how he had conceived Parshuram. I found his conception to be very close to what I had in mind. I'm really happy about the fact that that STAR has put in a lot of effort in Mahabharat. We shot for twelve days in Pahalgam for the episode where Parshuram is introduced.

What is it that you find challenging about playing Parshuram? Actors thrive on challenges. Only then can you perform. Parshuram's is a very detailed character. People generally know him as an angry man who goes around cursing. What they are not aware of is the undercurrent of pain behind every curse of his. I bring out this pain in the character.

Any anxieties related to how your audience will respond to your portrayal of Parshuram? No anxieties as such. I'm an actor and I keep changing my roles. With Parshuram I'll set a benchmark!

Dhritarasthra the most powerful man in Mahabharat essayed by Thakur Anoop Singh who is also a pilot by profession, will be also seen playing blind Dhritarasthra in the new version of epic show Mahabharat on Star Plus.

In tonight's episode viewers will witness a grand and never seen entry of Dhritarasthra .

TellyBuzz got in touch with Thakur Anoop Singh to know more about his role in the epic show Mahabharat.

When asked Anoop about his journey in the industry he said, "Well to start with, I am a pilot by profession and have a license for the same. I never really pursued it as a career because at the same time recession hit the entire globe. I didn't wanted to waste my time and since I love acting I decided to pursue my career in acting. I had to look after my family so I thought I might as well pursue my career in acting."

"At that point I started with modelling and thankfully Siddharth Tewary noticed me and he offered me the role of Dhritarasthra. It was a pleasure to play the role of Dhritarasthra who is known to be more powerful than Bhishma pithama. So for me it was a very challenging act. I had actually worked hard on my physique and my skills to essay the role of Dhritarasthra," he added.

We asked him about his grooming sessions for Mahabharata, Anoop says, "I had actually grown my hair, groomed my self but at that time the set wasn't ready and I didn't wanted to shed my weight as the role of Dhritarasthra demanded me to be little plum. So in the mean while to get into the skin of the character I decided to take up mythological shows that came my way. I did couple of shows like I shot for the promo of Hanuman in Ramayan but couldn't do the role. This way I got a hang of mythological shows and could improvise on my diction."

Anoop has been practicing a lot to get well versed with his character in the show and he said, "I did loads of practice as I used to blind fold myself for the role and roam around so that I could walk and get the act right. While I have also met Giriraj Shankar who played Dhritarasthra in the earlier Mahabharat and his grace gave me an amazing insight on the character of Dhritarasthra."

We asked him as how different is the new Mahabharat from the old one, for which Anoop opined, "The new age modern Mahabharat is different from the early ones as in this Dhritarasthra is shown as a warrior although Dhritarasthra being a warrior fought till his death and tonight is the grand entry of Dhritarasthra wherein he will fight with the elephants. All my stunts are performed by myself and I am thankful to each and every one associated with Mahabharat."

Talking about his future plans Anoop says, "I would like to pursue my acting career and if fate takes me back to aviation industry I might take up a job in the aviation profession but nothing has been planned now."
