"Mom believe me whatever Padmini aunty told you is wrong," RK said truthfully once he reached home with his parents after the party. His father had gone to sleep when he stopped his depressed mother in the hall to speak to her.
"Why? Didn't you say it to her yourself?" Radha asked behaving as if she could see right through him and he fell silent. "Why are you quiet now? Speak up. Answer me!"
"I did ...," he blurted, "... but it wasn't for-"
"I have got my answer Rishu," Radha said heavily.
"Mom look you are misunderstanding me. I am not like this," RK said with honesty in his face. "You know me. I am not like this."
The way he was defending himself made her doubt him even more. Radha looked at him sympathetically. Even though she was upset, she still understood that it was not in his control if he was made that way.
"Now I understand why you did not want to get married and why you disliked every girl I showed you," Radha said sadly.
He felt now it was time to tell his mother about Trishna and clear all this confusion.
"Mom believe me I didn't mean to say all that to Padmini aunty I had called-"
"Do you think I don't know anything?" Radha cut across him. "Padmini didn't tell me anything new. I already knew this Rishu."
"But how did you know ... wait a minute did you see or hear something?" He asked looking embarrassed.
Radha's hand reached her mouth as her eyes widened with shock. What had he done that he was so embarrassed?
"Listen mom there is someone in my life who I know you will never accept but I can't live without- "
Radha could not believe her ears. Was he telling her that there was another guy in his life? Not able to control her tears anymore she rushed over to the stairs.
"Mom!" RK called but she did not stop. What was wrong with women, RK thought irritably. Why were they so weird? His one mistake, messed up everything. His love was unaware of everything that was happening to him just because he tried to tell her his feelings. It was then when it came to him that why did Trishna not turn up to meet him. Did she not get his note? Or did she ignore it? Maybe Padmini aunty had got hold of that note and so she turned up instead. But how could she take him seriously and on top of that be happy and tell his mother about it. How could she forget she was a wife and a mother of two grown up daughters? How could she forget twenty five years of her marriage with Mallik? Was she not happy with him? Oh well this was not his matter. He had to tell his mother about Trishna soon. His phone began ringing and he saw it was Madhu. What did she want now? She was the last person he wanted to talk to now and he cut the call.
RK sitting in his room looking glum when he received yet another call of Madhu. He had already cut a few but decided to answer now as she was not stopping.
"What is it?" He asked annoyed.
"Why are you being so rude?" Madhu asked angrily sitting in her still dressed in her party wear. She was furious that he was not answering her calls and had began to doubt his proposal.
"Don't you understand Madhu that I don't want to talk to you? Why do you keep calling me?"
"Why are you behaving like this with me? What have I done?" Madhu asked hurt and RK felt a bit bad for being rude to her for no reason.
"Sorry Madhu I'm just a bit upset-"
"I can understand," Madhu said quickly thinking he was upset because she was getting married.
"You do?" RK asked curiously.
"I just want to ask you whether you mean what you said in the dark tonight?" She asked with hope.
RK was flabbergasted. Had Padmini aunty told her everything too? How could she tell her daughter something like this? Had she told Trishna too? No! He wanted to hide this matter but Padmini aunty was hell bent on making it public. How could she do this to him? She was never like this. Was this all some sick joke they were all playing on him? He was furious.
"Of course Madhu I meant every single word I said," RK said with his tone dripping with sarcasm which went completely unnoticed by Madhu as she smiled. "This is what I am living for. Can't you see it in my eyes? I want to marry aunty or I will die.
RK ended the call and threw his phone on the bed while Madhu's smiled vanished upon hearing 'aunty' and she frowned with annoyance.
"How dare he call me aunty again?" She asked angrily. She was used to Trishna and RK making fun of her and calling her 'aunty' so she thought he had addressed her only. But then her expression softened a bit as she registered his last words. Was he so helplessly in love with her that he would die without her? She was sure he was upset because of her marriage and felt the need to console him. Madhu was about to call him again but stopped and decided to text him instead.
RK received the message and lifted his phone to check. He made a face upon knowing it was from Madhu.
Don't be upset RK I will not let this marriage happen.
Madhu was eagerly waiting for a reply when her phone rang.
Look Madhu don't even think about this marriage.
RK switched his phone off angrily because she was not leaving him alone. She kept mentioning the thing, he did not even want to think about.
Although Madhu was over the moon to be proposed by RK, she was still a little mad at him for taking so long to share his feelings with her. Had he took this step earlier this wedding would have never been fixed. But then she believed when you are about to lose someone that is when you realise their true value.
Next morning, Mallik and Padmini were sitting in the hall when Madhu came over with tea and served them. She was dressed in a simple salwar suit. Her long braid sat neatly on her side. She moved her spectacles back on her nose and sat next to her mother.
"Everyone was praising Madhu a lot last night," Mallik said happily and Madhu pretended to get shy.
"After she is my daughter. She has inherited my good looks," Padmini said with a smile admiring herself.
"I don't believe it," Mallik suddenly became emotional and Padmini quickly looked at him. "My daughter is only here for a few more days."
"Don't be sad Mallik. All daughters leave their parents' home one day," Padmini said happily.
"No Padmini I can't do this. I can't let my daughter go. I will refuse Mukund's parents," Mallik said.
"Mallik-"
"No I won't get her married. She is only a kid yet."
"Mallik-"
"This house will be empty without her."
Madhu knew her father did not mean it. He would always talk about her marriage and get emotional. But they were the ones who pleaded her to get married to that freak in the first place. She could not take the overacting anymore and went away with a fake sad expression.
"Look you made Madhu sad," she heard her mother say from behind.
Over in Trishna's room, she was lying in bed and reading a magazine when Madhu entered her room.
"Shall I bring your breakfast up here?" Madhu asked.
"No dear I'm fine," Trishna replied beaming at her.
Madhu began sorting out the items on her dressing table, before picking up her clothes to hang them in her closet.
"Oh Madhu because of you I had to listen to so many things from my friends," Trishna said disappointed.
"What do you mean?" Madhu asked confused.
"Everyone was making fun of the way you got ready for the function last night," Trishna replied. "You should have thought once about my reputation. My sister ... my sister looked like a maid. And my brother in law a servant."
Madhu grasped the dress closed in her hands tightly as she heard the word 'maid'. She controlled her feelings and put the last dress in the cupboard.
"Oh well no use crying over spilled milk," Trishna said putting the magazine down and getting up. "But Madhu in the upcoming functions I won't hear a word you say and dress you up the way I want. I will make you look like a princess."
"OK," Madhu smiled dangerously as Trishna went to the washroom. Well now she had reason to dress up nicely. She was about to leave when she spotted the magazine. She curiously picked it up to learn something about fashion. Madhu glanced towards the washroom door and opened it. As she flicked through the pages, she spotted something and a shrewd smile appeared on her face.
Madhu came over to the hall with the magazine in her hand and found it empty. Her father must have left for work now. She looked around for her mother and noticed her heading over to her. Madhu opened the magazine on a specific page, left it on the sofa and quickly went out of sight.
Padmini turned the TV on to watch her favourite cooking show and was about to sit down when she saw the magazine. She lifted it and was shocked.
Trishna had dressed in jeans and top and was examining herself in the mirror when Padmini entered her room.
"Hey mom," Trishna greeted her.
"What is this?" Padmini shouting, throwing the magazine in her face.
Trishna's expressions changed from confused to embarrassed as she understood why her mother was angry. She looked at her the photographs in the magazine from her latest photoshoot in which she was wearing a mini skirt. Madhu lurked behind the door to see the drama.
"I asked you what is this?" Padmini repeated.
"They're pics from my last photoshoot," Trishna mumbled.
"I can see that but what are you wearing Trishna?"
"So what mom? It's not like I'm not wearing anything."
"Shut up Trishna," Padmini yelled. "We allowed you to do modelling because you said you will only model in sarees and suits. If you father finds out you wear clothes like this then do you know what will happen?"
Trishna was quiet while Madhu smiled happily.
"Listen to me now Trishna. You will not do modelling now," Padmini said firmly.
"Mom you can't do this with me," Trishna protested.
"This is my final decision Trishna," Padmini said and she left the room angrily going past Madhu, who came inside.
"What are you doing here?" Trishna asked her irately. "Go away from here!"
"As you wish," Madhu said coolly and strolled out of her room.
Trishna sat down on her bed feeling sad, angry and insulted. What was she going to do now? It was her dream to enter bollywood. Modelling was just her first step and now she was not allowed to do that either. They did not approve her modelling. How would they react when they found out she wanted to become an actress. She held her head in her hand.
RK woke up late in the morning but did not want to get out of bed, his mind still on the events from last night. He heard a knock on his door and wondered who it could be.
"Come in," he said as he sat up.
His bedroom door opened and he heard the sound of anklets. RK turned to the door to find a tall and beautiful girl standing at his door with a tea tray in her hands. She was dressed in a blue saree and had a breathtaking smile on her face. Her long silky hair were flowing in the wind entering from the open window. RK stared at the model like girl for a while and a dreamy smile appeared on her lips. He had to admit, she was hot.
dekha jo tujhe yaar dil mein baji guitar
chhalka aankhon se pyaar dil mein baji guitar
chhaa raha kaisa yeh nasha re ..
aa raha jeene ka mazaa re ...
arerere main to gaya re ... dil bhi gaya re
arerere main to gaya re ... dil bhi gaya re
"Good morning RK," she said in her cool voice.
RK snapped back to reality and mentally scolded himself for staring at her. How could he cheat on his love Trishna? His love was Trishna. Just Trishna.
"Who are you?" He asked confused.
"Dolly," she answered coming over to him and placing the tray on his bedside table.
"Dolly who?"
"Dolly your tea girl," She smiled and handed him the cup of tea. "Whenever you want tea I will serve it to you."
He heard some footsteps and spotted another gorgeous girl clad in a pink saree entering his room.
dekha jo tujhe yaar dil mein baji guitar ...
"Now who are you?" RK asked placing the cup back on the tray.
"Pinky," she replied giving him a dazzling smile as turned to his wardrobe and began searching through his clothes.
"Hey what are you doing?" He asked getting up to stop her.
"I am your personal stylist. Whenever you want to change clothes I will help you," she gave him a bright smile.
"What?" RK asked shocked.
"I mean I will help you decide what to wear and give you advice on what goes with what," Pinky said quickly.
"But why? Who told you both to come here?" RK asked but they ignored him.
"RK please come here and have your tea first," Dolly told him nicely.
"No RK will first take a shower and dress up," Pinky ordered sweetly.
"You are supposed to have bed tea in bed," Dolly said taking hold of his arm.
"But he has got up now," Pinky spoke and took hold of his other arm as RK watched them both.
"RK come with me," Dolly pulled and turned to Pinky angrily. "You get out it's not your turn yet."
"I told you I will come here first!" Pinky snapped as she pulled RK, digging her manicured nails into his arm.
"What are you both doing?" RK asked irritably. "Leave me."
They both ignored him and continued to argue while pulling him.
"I said leave me," RK pushed them both away from him and ran out of his room. As he reached downstairs, he found at least a dozen more pretty girls, dressed in sarees walking around doing something. He gaped at them. Was this a dream?
Thank you so much everyone for commenting and liking this story 😊
This story was supposed to be a mystery but as I have written too many mysteries before I am not sure whether the readers want to read a mystery again so I am a bit confused on how I should write this story. I have two plots in mind for this story. One is mystery and the other is normal love story. Please let me know in your comments which one you prefer. I have decided to write this story as the majority wants 😳
