Oh its not Christmas but it is the season to be jolly! This serial is going to run for a while. Look at the scope!

The inspiration behind the character sultan is a real life don of not that long ago called Haji Mastan Mirza. He was THE Mumbai ka don! Now the film "Once upon a time in mumbai" the main character is based on Haji Mastan Mirza but is named Sultan Mirza!

Notice!!! Haji Mastan...

-a big don..Mumbai ka Sultan...errr I mean don!!
- made millions through smuggling of gold, silver and electronics.
- Loved the sea and lived in a bungalow overlooking the ocean.
-Had a big bungalow but lived in a small simple room. However, when he went out...dressed in smart/designer clothes
-Did not invlove himself in any drug smuggling or dealing related activities. In fact joined forces with a famous anti-drug activist Dr Yusef Marchent and campaigned for youth to avoid drugs.
-Went to prison for smuggling
- Once he had paid for his crimes by going to prision, gave up smuggling/crime ie life of a gangster/don/criminal and never indulged in crime ever again.
- Had MANY connections in Bollywood! Dilip Kumar, Dharmendra, Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachhan and more!
-Was VERY successful at producing films!!
-Married an actress!
-Was a lonely man with few but staunch friends. He too was very loyal to his friends!

Madhu YES you WILL make an entry in films!! WHO will help you??? Someone who has ALWAYS helped you! Some who has promised he will ALWAYS look out for you!

Now the real don is just an INSPIRATION, they are not going to do a carbon copy! But there are SIGNIFICANT similarities!

Let me clarify myself..if at some point the cvs turn the sultan character irredeemably nasty like rk's then I will not be shipping him blindly nor will I be justifying his actions by bashing other characters. Get the picture?

rk shippers mosttt welcome!! Look I have not said one thing about him!! The character rk will always have a significant role in the serial. There is ONE CONDITION!

If you are going to bleat or whine that you will leave watching the show if sultan's role is increased, then pls, I don't care and I don't want to know. I am not your mom. Go and whine at her. Or just do everyone and yourself a favor ...stop watching from today.

What an interesting story!

I had heard of this man before but didn't realise he was such a fascinating personality or that Sultan was based on him.

Indeed, looks like Sultan is here to stay and will have some key role in some capacity or the other!

Awesome post...

But with the track record of CVs I highly doubt any character will b left sane n meaningful...already they lost hold on revenge n humiliation track n playing games...n sultan..I don't know r they really working on him or not...coz he entered the show as antagonist but was shown a good guy except for profession..n showing him roaming around Madhu's house with lame reasons...

Hope CVs use the three powerful characters wisely...coz they can spice up the show..

Indeed! Also just with even the basic framework of the real life don, as an inspiration, what I like is the SCOPE for so many interesting tracks and some with new characters coming in...and out realistically!
These cvs may have even cracked it with bringing in famous guest star appearances from tellywood or even bollywood for one off or few episodes! Don't know if that has happened in serials before.

Yes, I'm really eager to see the film industry represented in this series! Movie stars do put in appearances in TV serials but only when they have a movie to promote. But the cameos are invariably jarring - very stilted and many stars also patronise the TV cast which is annoying and just disrupts everything. But like you say, other TV stars could easily put in guest appearances - it would add some nice pizzazz to the story telling.

I also wish they would enlarge on RK's life as an actor - the films he chooses, rivalries, insecurities, his ambitions. Some insight apart from, you know... 'Pack up'.

The makers themselves have admitted to Sultan's Character being INSPIRED not RIPPED OFF, but INSPIRED fromthat of Haji Mastan, they have used thei Creative Liberty and added their own shades to the Character but yes the Basic Qualities is from that of Haji Mastan...Though a Don, and one of the most powerful one there ever was, he was against DRUGS, and it's said that the day he stopped ruling the Then BOMBAY, the city was OVERFLOWED with the POISON.

He was a huge huge huge fan of the eternal Madhubala and wished to Marry her. It's also said that her Marriage with Kishore Da was a huge blow for Haji Mastan, and it's also said that so much was his love for Madhubala that the girl he married Actress Sona, was very much similar to Madhubala...

Sultan's character may have been brought in with the Idea of a Cameo, but that's changing...The makers themselves wouldn't have expected Sultan-Madhu to be such a huge hit, every day their fan follow keeps increasing by leaps and bounds and a huge credit for this goes to the way RK's character got twisted...

Madhu's entry in B-Town will be something to look out for, that's the central story, that's always been the central story where all the rest would fall back and it's indeed intriguing to see how the makers implement this. 😊

Very interesting.

I hope they have a similar story in mind. It will be interesting to see MB in the film industry and will be more interesting to see the reaction of R.K. and Dipali.

I remember seeing that movie and I am sure the CV's have already a detailed track in mind.

Maybe thats why Sultan asked MB to look after Aryan when he goes to jail so she can take care of him.

Definitely something different to look forward to.

Thanks for the digging up a good clue as to where the story may be heading.
