RK- The convoluted man with a serious God complex

It is more than clear that RK is madly in love with Madhu and knows it too. What is still unclear is the motive behind his strange behaviour. He seems to have resigned to his feelings in private but in front of Madhu he is all out to show who the master is.

While on the face of it, his behaviour appears to have stemmed from a revenge plan gone wrong by his unexpected feelings of love for his victim, I wonder whether there is more to it.

Those of us who have watched RK in the initial epiodes know that he suffers from a God complex. He is a manipulator and loves to be in control of everyone and everything. Losing his father whom he was most attached to at an impressionable age must have made him feel helpless. He has coped with that loss by trying to gain control of his life and the ones who are connected to it. He has managed to get his way all along till Madhu crossed his path. The fact that the woman does not cow down to fame, fortune or fate made her an interesting personality to test his strength. While he could not prevail over her with his hate, he managed to win her over with his love, which to start with was fake but soon developed into something much deeper than even he realised.

All this time though, he managed to control the pace and speed at which their relationship was progressing. While his forgiving Mallik was part of the God complex at play, Madhu's finding out about it and the consequent reverence she had for him seemed to help him achieve his revenge objective. However, living with the woman and receiving her unconditional love softened him enough to allow himself to develop deep feelings for her.

Dipali's challenge made him want to test the strength of her love, not that he ever doubted it, but it presented a perfectly good opportunity to again be the manipulator, a role he immensely seems to enjoy. Although her reluctance to come away with him irked him because it seemed to show him that he did not have as much control over her as he thought he did, Trishna's inadvertant revelation of the fissures in the relationship between Mallik, Pads and Madhu because of Mallik's attack on his life presented him with a perfect opportunity to play God again. He mended the broken relationships, partly for Madhu's sake and mostly to safisfy his own ego of being in control.

His arranging Pads-Mallik wedding can also be explained by this need to be the 'Mover and Shaker'. The great RK decides and the rest fall in line. That the cause was a good one and strengthened Madhu's respect and love for him was an added bonus.

Now when the ship of his life was sailing quite well, what was the need to turn it upside down? Here is where I think Ballu's attempt on Madhu's life changed the course. The moment Ballu was all set to pull the trigger on Madhu must have been the worst moment of RK's life. He must have been swept back in time to when he was the scared 12-year old who could not stop his father from dying and leaving him behind. Thankfully Pads saved her life and he was eternally greatful for that. He left no stone unturned to get her out. His guilt at bringing back Ballu into her life made him shy away from meeting her in the eye. The lover in him was happy that she did not think less of him either because of this or all his previous acts.

How serious was he about leaving everything and going away with her? I am still not too sure about it. I have a feeling that although it started as a test of Madhu's love, he could have got carried away by the fantasy of being free of all responsibilities. The trip to the village must have underlined two things to him. One, he does love all the fame and adulation and was not really ready to leave it all. Two, he did not like that Madhu was slowly but surely gaining control over him. Her existence mattered to him much more than he expected and her brush with death not long ago had instilled a fear of loss. He reverted to his revenge plan as a cover to get away from her. So instead of foresaking the world for her, he chose to dump her to remain in the world in which he is comfortable.

Unfortuntely the more he was trying to get away from her, the more she engulfed him in his thoughts. As though that was not enough, she has landed on his set, her physical proximity further weakening his resolve to keep her away from him. He is resorting to his tried and tested manipulating skills to unnerve her and chase her away but he himself is getting caught in the web he has been weaving in the past two weeks. Every wound he is inflicting on her is coming back to hurt him twice as hard.

Now what is inexplanable in this revenge-turned-love-turned revenge story is his beviour towards his God and his mom.

RK's reconciliation with his God and his mother seems real. He seems to acknowledge in his mind that it was Madhu who brought about this difficult feat, considering that his relationship with his Bappa and his mom were strained for years. Now if he was indeed such a control freak as I have made him out to be, would he have not thwarted everything that she has taught him, just to show that she cannot influence his thoughts and actions? He does not do that. He continues to respect his God and his mom even when Madhu is not around to witness it. He is definitely a changed man and his conscience seems to be very much alive. Then why does he still indulge in the drastic acts against the woman who restored his faith in God (Bappa) and mankind (his mom)?

I don't know if I made any sense in all that rambling but as confused as I am I think this is a war between control and compassion within RK's complex mind and poor Madhu is caught in the crossfire.

Great post. I love reading your posts. Yes, RK does love her a lot and has really deep feelings for her, but it is his EGO which comes in between. He acknowledges what she has done to his life but at the same time doesn't wanna let go his larger than life ego also. For me it is the battle between RK's ego and love and compassion. He is a changed man now, that we can see clearly.

Pearl Weaver: Great post as always and it makes a lot of sense but then I would have loved if creatives have been more clear in their narrative 😊 I have reached a point where I have stopped wondering about the characters of this show and the motives that drive them. I just want to see a movement in the story now as two weeks are enough for insults and public humiliation game. And as we already have seen the war of wills between these two, this second round does not have the novelty factor.

Thanks. Yes, in this battle of ego I hope he does not end up completely destroying all chances of winning her back at some future point.

Yes, they could have been more clear in their narrative rather than leaving it all to us to guess. It is hard to resolve the contradictions in RK's behvaiour in the last 4-5 months with what they are showing us now. I too woild like to see a movement in the story especially since the two weeks time they had asked of us is over and our patience is wearing thin.

Let's see how the story unfolds after the slap and it can go either ways. I just hope it does not turn ugly again.

@Opti- The makers keep hinting. I mean all those curses and the first montage of the show. Their story isn't a happy one i suppose. But they might change it later. Who knows. And RK keeps dropping hints of their incomplete saga.
