Ballu is Choudhary. Wanted a son since his first wife couldn't give him a son. Most of the times such people, who own the whole village are rich, cruel etc in real life as well marry a poor girl family by force. And they always need a son to keep their family going on. Ballu's mother in the first Episode says this that he chose Paddy for Ballu since Every single woman in Paddy's family would give sons.
