i understand what you mean. completely. they are appealing visual pieces of meat and the more vsually appealing , the more money and fame is on their ride. i get it. :\Originally posted by: prc_fan1
great post & to be honest, I completely agree with you.
I guess its simple - when someone looks good, he/she is praised. However, I would like to disagree that talent overpowers looks. I feel that when someone is not talented enough, then all that is talked about is his/her looks, for eg. Katrina Kaif (no offence to her fans) but have you ever heard anyone comment on her acting & even if you have, has it ever been a positive comment? I doubt.Watching a show everyday, characters & the artist playing the characters, esp. the leads, grow on you. So soon you start liking the way they look & its natural to comment on them. Furthermore, even though they are normal people, for us who are watching them on TV, they are not like us. They are considered to be stars. So, the way they look/dress automatically becomes important & they are the people we can drool over. We don't drool over the people around us, we drool over stars.OK, I think i didn't make any sense. just my rant.great topic, though :)

Of course everyone is beautiful the way there are... dark, fair, tall, short, fat, slim etc really does not matter if you know how to groom up a bit and look presentable, throw in some positive attitude and a charming smile, and you'll have people hooting, oops rooting for you in no time. 😆
true...the diversity.lol. i dk i dont really agree on the importance but yes visual media for them is imp as its their source to their bread and butter so i understand. yeah i know what you mean. :)Originally posted by: ~~ashi~~
All I can say EML is that ... to each his own ..
If people want to go gaga over someone for their looks , it's okay , if someone cares more for their acting skills that's perfectly okay too ! That's why all kinds of fans exist .
Personally ... I think .. Tellywood ho ya Bollywood .. Looks are important to a large extent ! It's a visual medium after all , c mon now :) Our definitions for beauty , good looks however may differ . I may find someone extremely good looking and you may not ...!
For me though , I have no specific parameter for a fav ..! I may like one actor for stricly their looks and another for only their acting skills ...!
@underlined lines - completely agree.👏Originally posted by: soapbubble
Good question!
My answer is that looks - classical looks -- don't matter. In Bollywood the best lookers and the best figures are the item girls. The heroines - I mean the big ones like Rani, Kajol, Vidya - they're good looking but not the best. The real stars - if you look closely - are never the most handsome or beautiful. But they have something. a special spark, a star quality. Call it attractiveness, screen presence - which is different from mere looks. Yes, that's important. And talent? ALL important. So that's what I think.Bubble
i understand ..his smirk comes from the attitude of the character. which i like since the character demands it , not anything else but i understand what you mean :)Originally posted by: amrithas
In the real world, looks should not be so important. But in the show business i Guess it does matter. No point in us not agreeing with it or approving of it.
Another thing is Actors even good looking ones are successful because they know how to use their looks to their advantage. If u take VD for eg. he knows his smirk, his dimpled grin are assets and uses it at the right time to impress audience, So what I am saying is that they know their job, thats why we go crazy for them. He furrows and raises his eyebrows, looks up, gives those glances and long stares all at the right time during scenes, thats why people praise him.So is the case with every succesful actor.

This is an age old debate so my POV won't add anything new to the table. I'll only say this - more than "good looks", looking presentable and attractive is more important. You cannot come dressed in rags, shaggy and disheveled and expect the world to be wowed away by your acting skills alone - except if you are auditioning for the role of a beggar! Even Rani in KKHH, Vidya in Parineeta, Bhool Bhulaiyya or TDP and Kajol (DDLJ, KKKG etc) had to change their style statements to fit into the B-town. Not so good looking actors like Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt etc ... work on their physique, dress with care and act well to fit in.
Acting well IS important though...you cannot sustain the industry on good looks alone - otherwise 100s of beefed up males and plastic surgery-ied females would be rich and famous. But that is not so. If one can couple good acting with an attractive and charming persona, then statistics say that those actors are successful. On a parting note - beauty is in the eye of the beholder as well...
