I agree with you. But my caveat would be that Bittu knows RK, he knows that persona AND he knows it's a persona. I also thinks he probably knows more details of his life than anyone else. And probably has shaped the RK persona.

The point I was trying to make was that i can't do rap. Like at all. Can't even listen to it. It doesn't work when you wince at every mispronounciation and want to correct the grammar and edit out the obscenities in the lyrics and make them gender sensitive. Trust me, i've tried. My best friend and I had a v funny ( to us) gangsta phase when we tried to take on brixton slang and be all hip. It didn't work with our accents.

Then we tried to write a rap. It was too grammatically correct to be cool.

We fail at being hip.

Though I still break out in bruvs and innits sometimes. That's my gangsta Tourettes.

Yeah..the marriage episodes were one of the best from direction, screenplay, dialogues and acting point. Really par excellence for a daily soap. It gripped me and that too at a time I was moodily sitting waiting for calls from India during the family crisis that still is going on.

You make some great points! And yes, we pretend to disapprove of Deepali, but in her shoes ( provided they are not as ugly as the rest of her wardrobe) we would do the same, wouldn't we?

And, yes, I like that she is such a sexual predator. But it would be nice to get that vibe without painting the character black from the onset. I mean, just because she expresses her sexual preferences and does not pretend o be a wallflower virgin, she is auomatically branded a vamp. And ok, she's trying to seduce someone else's husband. But in her excuse, have you SEEN him?( Forget for a moment the immorality of this argument. Pretend I never said that, and never let it be held against me!)

Or, even more painfully, these attributes are used to paint her black, not by the audience, but by the show creators. I am waiting for the day when a sexually liberated female is the heroine of a show on Indian tv. And not as a courtesan with a heart of gold please. Because, that? Is not so much a can of worms, but a basket of cobras.
