Part 9
As the cadets continued to stare at Gunny, he was too busy reflecting on his past. All this time, he was confindent about himself, he strongly believed and advocated that whatever he did, he didn't regret. He was sure of himself, that he didn't care about anyone else's feelings. Maybe Major Sharma was right.
Flashback
Major Sharma was doing her usual rounds of KMA, as she did in the absence of Brigadier Chandok, when she saw an unexpected figures sitting by the fire of the martyr. She approached him with caution, not because she was afraid but because she knew what was on the figure's mind.
Major Sharma: Captain, there is two minutes to light out. What do you think you are doing here? (she spoke in a calm but firm tone, she didn't want to pester him anymore then needed)
Gunny for a few minutes didn't say anything. Major Sharma got altered due to this and wondered if he heard her or not. When she didn't hear any reply from him, she spoke again with a knowing tone.
Major Sharma: Remember, you told me once that whatever you did, you don't regret it. But I suppose that the guilt has finally caught up to you, right? (She looked at Gunny to see his expression, but all she got was a blank expression, before continuing she sat down beside him). What I am going to say to you right now might make you feel worse but I think this is the right time to say it. What you did, was terrible, you are an army officer, you are there to protect the civilians, not to harm them, and I mean both emotionally and physically. She turns her whole body towards him). You know Captain Randhawa, what you did can cause you court marital. But, I don't know why but I think, just the guilt of what happened with no forgiveness is a big punishment already. (She got up to leave but turned back once more, when she heard someone sobbing. She wanted to say something more but fearing that it would make the situation worse, she decided to leave but once again changed her mind). Captain, it doesn't not matter how much you hate your father, you are still his son. Being proud of even your own mistakes runs in your blood.
Major Sharma leaves but not before she notices blood shot red eyes look up in suprise.
