Dear Friends,
Since I write stories myself I decided to share with you somethings which normally goes on in my mind as a creator, at times how the readers manipulate me and how I manipulate them too to read my stories....yes it is a give and take relationship, and somehow I think the serial makers of hindi GEC instead of making use of the relationship they become opponents and the match starts, of course there is some fun but no fun if there is no give & take relationship.....
1) Keep them guessing : When I started writing say about 4 years ago, I wrote the story the way I concieved it but always tried end each chapter I posted on a cliffhanger, meri buri adaat is still there, I know many of my readers often grumble and crib but I hardly give in as they have to wait for the next part till the next day...you can say like the serial makers I also like a bit of torturing of my readers...😛
2) The ending : Normally when I start developing an idea, the first thing which comes to my mind is how to end it...if I do not see the ending, it becomes very difficult for me to write as ending is the goal I strive for, a target to be achieved, yes as the story develops and as I start posting, I do take some twist and turns according to the demands of the readers but then I seldom change the ending of what I had concieved...you can say that no matter what my stories will have a definitive ending unlike the serials....I feel all stories have a life...it should be told as long as it is interesting...I hate to butcher the characters I have created, I would die thousand deaths to see it even....
3) Trwist & Turns : I agree there is certain fun in seeing the readers wanting certain things and you are not giving it easily but then there is no fun to make the reader or viewers unhappy after all I am writing the story for them, if I cannot give them a better twist, it is best I give them what they want...
4) Playing to the gallery - Initially when I started writing I only wrote the way I wanted, I was too afraid to write on a particular character even if I could see it becoming popular but now I do write a few more chapters just to play to the gallery, it is important to keep your readers happy as I want them to read my stories...but then it does not mean I will not strive towards the ending I had conceived....
With communication becoming very interactive where we are being able to get instant feedbacks, it is very interesting to read the comments and evaluate ourselves...I know it is fun to keep the viewers guessing but as viewers are we getting what we want to see? I know it is not always possible to satisfy each and everyone because each viewer as his or her own views about certain character or scene but then at the end of the day am I satisfied with what I have done?
Lets take LTL, the show had a good run for a year, the other show which I saw was Kasam Se...it went down after 6 months and it was amazing to see LTL holding itself high for more or less a year, which is good, though given it to me I would have written the Damodar track and the FR track in a different manner, nevertheless with the revelation of Kala as Dutta's biggest enemy and her punishment I think the story would have got a perfect ending... it does not take too much of labour to copy and become run of the mill, masterpieces is what takes your creativity and labour, created with love, you feel real high when it is appreciated all around. ...Your thoughts friends, love Tin

Yes, Tin. I agree with you. You know the process the best as you have been a creator yourself. Wish this creativity was present with the channel too. Unfortunately it lacks very badly. Had it been there LTL would have seen a beautiful end in the right time and saved everybody a heartache and headache (including Mr. PS too but alas he doesn't understand it because he has no BRAIN).
Anyway, please do continue with your FFs as that's the only solace left for all of us here. At least we can enjoy the TaSha world that we all have created lovingly through various things like FFs, OS, VMs, write-ups etc. Best of luck!

I think the main problem with serials is they start with a story which has a beginning...but it never has a ending. So we rarely get a decent logical finish. Like LTL could have ended MR's track nicely. But for some reason they decided to drag their feet and rush the end in a week's time. They could have easily satisfied all of us and still given Dutta's character a similar exit.

Our serials shud have a definite period of airing lyk shows in US.Atleast they don't have to compromise on their content like ours do.If the show works the ch can start another season.Shows lyk friends,2 and a half men,scrubs......etc worked even in INDIA cos they never copromised on their content. They cud have finished the show with Dand N living happily ever after. My mum tells me wen nukkad,buniyaad.....etc used to air they had only 52 epis per serial but they aired on dd which is a national ch .Unfortunately these private channels are more interested in their money making mechanism rather than providing quality to their viewers

@Niki: Viewers like me who have watched DD shows still remember most of them with fond memories. One of my eternal favorites will be Kashish...it was telecast for maybe 13 episodes. But even after maybe 20 years the story is clear in my memories.😊

I do not know how the serial making process takes place between the channel and the production houses...but I guess the PH is required to give a proposal with a storyline...the Channel then chooses the most interesting one (my guess) or maybe the other way round the channel has a storyline and asks several Production house to develop on it...whatever the processes is and whoever gives the story idea, a normal question in the decision making should be 'how are you going to end this story'....?

I think it works both ways. Mostly producers come up with a storyline and approach channels. If channels like the concept they shoot a few trial episodes called pilots. If the channel likes that they work on it further....
At times even the channel comes up with the concept and they approach producers they have worked with before and ask him to work on the show. Sometimes a producer comes up with the idea...the channel may like the idea but are not confident of the producer's capabilities then they come into an understanding with the original producer and handover to another one. But mostly they only start with a concept rather than the whole story. They might have something for the first 3 months which is the time within which they have their first highpoint. After that ratings and viewer feedback decide how it will work.
Like in LTL's case if I am correct the concept was Pareshji's idea. The first highpoint was Nakusha's wedding which should have happenned in March but got pushed to May due to IPL.

Thanks Shreya for the inputs and yes season 1, 2, 3 a definitely a better idea, we see progress of our hero / heroine while the next season the story concentrates on somebody else.... keeping a link with the original storyline of course!!
