SRKs looks for King
Naku was genuinely happy for her best pal's success, because she knew, how much this contract meant for him. They had a perfect celebration, till the baby's cry gonged their departure time. Naku had to head back, so she started gathering her books and belongings, when she realised that her cell phone was missing. The search party set looking for it. They looked in all the possible and impossible places : under the table, inside the shoes, under the car seat, below the couch, inside the baby's pram, along the kitchen racks and several other places, but up to no avail. No amount of search no matter how dedicated it was could reunite her cell phone with her. To give a last try, Baji tried calling her number, lest it would start ringing and they would figure out where it laid, but the phone was switched off. Naku left all her hopes to find her phone back. Baji immediately did all the formalities that had to be done in such lost cases, and the three girls left for the day; leaving Baji to prepare for the important meeting with his new client, which was scheduled for the evening.
On their way back Naku thought about her day's whereabouts, trying to figure out where she could have left her phone, because she was never careless enough to drop it from her hand. She mentally calculated the day's happenings, but could not put two and two together. Somehow she knew she was missing a clue. At last she gave up being in the shoes of Mr. Holmes and reminded herself to call her parents back home immediately, and inform them about the loss. All these thoughts occupied her brain and kept her busy on her way back, when Leela gave a long knowing whistle. Naku turned her head sitting at the passenger seat, while Leela was driving the car, and Roops was cosy at the rear passenger seat with her little baby daughter. Both Naku and Roops followed Leela's sight and spotted a black BMW parked right before the turning of the block where they lived. A little costly car was a rarity in this block, let alone BMWs.
Their locality swamped with regular people, coming from the regular world, middle class Bengali community, where kitchens filled with the odour of fried fish every afternoon; that came out in groups and numbers every evening to have a good old fashioned "adda", where they would talk about everything ranging from international politics to the next door neighbour's kitchen acquisitions, where children would go playing around till nine at night, and young ones would strike games after games of carom at the local club till late at night. Neighbourhoods like this were always safe, especially when it came to two single women and one single mother.
Leela finally spoke. Giving a devilish grin to herself she said "So finally Mr. Bond's here"
"Don't get your hopes high dear, it might turn out that your certain Mr. Bond is quite bald" 😕😉Naku replied.
"Bald and the Beautiful" 😆Roops said fleetingly cuddling her baby; and all three of them burst out laughing , but they understood that some high and mighty came to visit and was currently in their block. The BMW blocked their way, so Leela could not steer their car inside their lane. Their curiosity got the better of them so, they parked their little Alto right outside the turning locked it and walked towards their block, pushing the pram along. Their thoughts and muses over a lost cell phone evaporated in the air. While entering their block one of their neighbours told them that there was someone looking for Naku, "a guy in uniform" 😳😲and that he was waiting outside their apartment.
Naku wondered who could it be, while Leela spoke her thoughts aloud "A guy in uniform!!! Man .... How do these defence guys end up being all your acquaintances? Don't they know that you are already taken, by a young scientist?" and then she added "Hey Naku, I'm sure you won't spare two paise worth time behind him, if he is good then just pass him on to me please please please" Naku looked incredulously at Leela while Roops just smiled at Leela's silly ways and fixed the cover on the little baby.
To Naku's utter amusement, she saw a chauffeur and smiled at her friend's silly thoughts. She turned at Leela and said "He is all yours, be my guest."
Leela's eyes popped out and Roops giggled mercilessly while opening the door of their apartment. When the man saw Naku he rose, and came near her, he enquired her name and when he was satisfied with Naku's identity he handed her an envelope and said "Please read what is inside, it is a message for you."
Naku was so lost at the series of incidents, that she could not give another thought before ripping open the envelope. Finding a small piece of paper in it, she opened it and began to read. It read:
"Sorry to have my chauffer barge into your privacy, this way, but had there been any other amiable way to do it, I would have gladly availed it. I got your address from the telecom company, the service of which you avail. I am the person you had bumped into early this afternoon and in your hurry, had forgotten to pick up your cell phone by mistake. I would like you to come to the Crystal Hall of The Taj Bengal this evening at seven and collect it in person. You are welcomed to bring anyone with you if you please. I know this might seem a little unreal to you, but I had to take care in not being irresponsible to hand over someone's belongings to someone else."
