Did the man just say sorry to her .... she wondered, but her chain of thoughts were cut short by the honking of the horn. She ran down the flight of stairs, crossed the car from the front and opened the door to the front passenger seat ' her favourite place in a car. All this while the stranger, stood at the top of the stairs watching, rather monitoring Naku, till she disappeared inside the SUV.
The afternoon was rather bustling for Naku. After the fateful encounter with the strange man, that Naku restrained herself from thinking about, she had a wonderful lunch. The three girls gathered around at Baji's old Alipore apartment, which Naku frequented during her high school days.
Earlier the apartment used to be crowded with occupants, like Baji's father, Mr. Ashish Patil, a well known criminal lawyer by profession, but an equally jovial person, whose laughter could even seer the sky; Baji's mother Mrs. Sahana Patil, a school teacher by profession, a very well kept lady, who mostly kept busy reading with her spects on her nose; Rhye ' Baji's little sister, who is six years younger to him and was mostly spotted at the balcony, giggling over the cordless phone and Baji in his most unkempt room strumming his guitar; or sometimes working hard on turning poor Rhye's life into a pure living hell.
Then again, things change rapidly, and so it did even for the Patil household. During Baji's final year in law college , his mother got transferred to a convent in Darjeeling. As per her job's demand she had to move base and took Rhye along with her. Mr. Patil of course could not afford to shift, his law firm and practice required him so he remained in the city. Baji too had to remain back, because he had his college to attend.
