Life after Kyunki

For some actors, life changes with their big break. We spoke to TV stars who got their big break with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhie Bahu Thi and left the show.

Shakti Anand
Played Hemant Virani, quit the show almost two years ago.

"Kyunki... was my first serial and it gave me my break in the industry. It gave me immense experience. All the actors at that time, including Smriti, learnt from the serial. It was my first experience facing the camera while my acting talent was polished by Saara Aakash.

At that time, Kyunki was on trial basis. I was learning acting then and I will definitely say that it was like a ladder for me. During the initial stages of the show, people would recognize me as Hemant and I would get mixed reactions. After the leap my character was sidelined and I disappeared suddenly.

I stop following the serial 4 years ago when I left. I can't understand how one can stretch a story for 6 long years. After taking so many leaps there is no interesting story."

Advice to Tulsi: At last we won't see Tulsi in Shantiniketan - better late then never!

Prachi Shah
Played Pooja Virani, quit the serial three years ago. She is now working with Kayamath and Kesar.

"I miss my character Pooja but in Kyunki there is no place for other characters. For the past 6 years the story has revolved around Mihir and Tulsi. There is no scope for others".

Advice to Tulsi: She is very talented. I don't know what's happening in the recent story but I would tell her that because of her hard work she is a household name.

Mehul Kajaria
Played Harsh Virani, Tulsi's son.

"After the leap I was not ready to play a father's role as my age is just 25. This serial gave me fame and now I'm playing the lead character in Teen Bahuraniyaan. Before Kyunki I had only played a small role in Sati, Satya Ki Shakti so whatever I am today I owe to the show. It would be a great pleasure even now to do a small role in a K-serial."

Advice to Tulsi: What advice can I give to someone who has played my mother and who is very senior to me even in real life?

Hussein
Played Chirag Virani

"Everybody knows the reason for me quitting Kyunki- there was some money problems. Kyunki gave me fame. I remember before doing Kumkum, I was famous as Chirag. During my initial years, when I was learning acting, Balaji gave me that grooming which is what the audience sees now. I'm not following Kyunki these days. I have stopped following it for around 4 years now."

Advice to Tulsi: No comments

Pooja Ghai
Played Suhasi

"I quit the serial around 3 years ago after the leap as there was no place for my character. In the initial years I remember people would call me as Suhasi. It was only after Kyunki that I got a break to work in many serials like Virasaat and Jeete Hai. Even so, people still call me Suhasi!"

Advice to Tulsi: At last she will get a break from this age old serial which is still going on and on.
