damini wanted to marry karan (they were in love when karan first entered kyunki) the day karan and damini were to be married gathuam arranged for him to not make it on time. damini's parents already did not like karan cuz he was a illigitimate kid of mandira and mihir. damini's parents got madder and gathuam "selflessly" offered to "help" save damni's parents "izzat" by marrying damni. so gthuam married damini and karan so mad/sad.

gathuam did this becuase mandira's lies were exposed and she crahsed her car into gathuam's wife teesha's car killing teesha and her unborn kid. gathuam wanted revenge so he went after karan.

at this point a different girl started playing damni and she was evil. she hated being married to gatham. evenually gathuam said damni can leave him, here the current damini started playing he charatcer of damini again and decided to become good and stay with gathuam cuz she liked him now.

gathuam and karan had become friendly towards each other.
