Ritu calls on Kashmir

Ritu Chaudhry

Ritu Chaudhry (Shobha of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) has just returned from a holiday in Kashmir. And she can't stop gushing about the place.

"I'm not exaggerating — Kashmir is heavenly," says Ritu, who also features in the Hindi play, Tea, Coffee or Me?

Ritu was accompanied by her hubby, Gautam Seth, a businessman. Her Kyunki co-actor, Amit Sareen, his fiance, Vineesha Arora, and Amit's sister Pooja Gupta and her husband were there, too.

Beats Switzerland

The holiday was part of Ritu's birthday celebrations. "My birthday was on May 17, and I had a mata ki chauki at my Lokhandwala home. But every year, around this time, Gautam and I plan an outing. Two years ago, we went to Switzerland; believe me, Kashmir is even better.

We didn't experience any problems during our stay.

In fact, we were in New Delhi, and planned this trip on the spur of the moment. My saas was on tenterhooks when we said we were off to Srinagar!

As this is the holiday season, we were unable to procure air tickets to Sringar from Delhi. So we took a train to Jammu, then drove down to Srinagar. It was drizzling and the views were out of this world."

Shikara sunsets

Ritu and Gautam were in Kashmir from May 6, and in their week there, they visited Srinagar, Pahalgam and Gulmarg. "We stayed
in a shikara, on Dal Lake.

And the food was super — we especially loved the dum aloo and Kashmiri biryani. One night, the shikara sailed right into the lake.

It was pitch dark, and we sat by candlelight, tucking into the food. It was raining, and everything looked divine. In fact, the first view of the Kashmir Valley from the Jawahar tunnel is breathtaking.

The actress says the weather in Gulmarg and Pahalgam was perfect.

"There was still snow around us, and this was the biggest highpoint. And yes, we were recognised even there. People would call Amit 'Kyunki ka Sahil', and me, Shobha."
