KumKum
(Juhi Parmar)

After spending a week in Pakistan, Juhi Parmar (KumKum) is back in India. She was there to shoot for a local serial — Tere Ishq Mein — where she plays the main protagonist.

Quoting her recent trip as one of the most memorable moments in her life, Juhi recounts her experiences of shooting in Pakistan and being mobbed by fans hollering out for KumKum.

Tell us about the serial you shot in Pakistan?
It's called Tere Ishq Mein and has me in the lead role. It revolves around my character Hiba who goes through lots of ups and downs in her life. Starting off as an office-going girl she gets married to this guy played by Humayun Sayeed, who is biggest star in Pakistan.

Her brothers, who are fine with her marriage, later change their behaviour and attitude towards after she ties the knot. There are lots of shades to Hiba, which I got to play. Later on, Humayun meets an accident and dies, so the story then focuses on her life as a widow.

How different was it shooting in Pakistan?
It's not drastically different, but there are some technical differences. Like here, the director says 'Action!' but there they use 'Cue'. In the beginning when the director said 'Cue', I would just stand still wondering why everyone is staring at me.

Did people recognise you as KumKum?
Yes, whenever I went out shopping, people would just start yelling KumKum. It was insane in a very sweet way. In fact my character in the Pakistani serial is almost on the lines of KumKum in terms of the struggle the character goes through. You could say that Hiba is the Pakistani KumKum.
