Role model: It's just Big B for him
TV star Hussain idolises Amitabh Bachchan but is in no hurry to make it to the silver screen
</>His married life may be going through a rough patch in the TV serial Kumkum, but Sumit Wadhwa nee Hussain Kuawjerwala has reasons to be happy the way his career has shaped up.
"Though for the most part the serial projects an ideal husband-wife relationship, in real life couples do have their share of tiffs," says Hussain, when quizzed about his perfect relationship with his tele wife Kumkum, going awry in the serial.
He feels that this particular serial has given him immense popularity. "It has changed my life completely. Showbiz or for that matter acting, was never in my scheme of things," he says.
"But then my brother who is directing Kausautii Zindagii Kay suggested that I should go in for modelling. After bagging some prestigious assignments, TV was the next obvious thing that followed. After a couple of roles in other serials, Kumkum happened and since then there has been no looking back," he says happily.
"Actually the role is very near to my heart," he says. But how close is Sumit to Hussain in nature and character? "Sumit Wadhwa is too good to be true while Hussain is a human being and falters too at times," pat comes the reply.
"But there are certain similarities. Like Sumit, I love my family and cannot live alone," says the actor who is also anchoring the game show Khull Ja Sim Sim.
Does the big screen hold any charm for him ? "The silver screen is the obvious choice of any actor who is always on the lookout for new things, exploring new roles which only the big screen has to offer. Television creates certain boundaries as the type of roles offered are limited," he muses.
"As a medium, however, television has grown by leaps and bounds and is giving stiff competition to films. Now TV actors have become style icons for the masses who earlier used to look up only to the film stars," he avers.
"But I am not in a hurry to move to the big screen unless something substantial is offered. I will not be part of a film which can be made without me. At 27 I have still a long way to go," he says.
Any dream roles ? "All roles done by Amitabh Bachchan are in fact dream roles for me or for any other actor. My visit to Allahabad is special as Mr Bachchan belongs to this place," says this telestar, before signing off.
