He did not really assure Tannu's parents much. He bought time and sent them away. He even refused to do a private engagement for their sake. It more seemed like an act to send them away and not let them reveal things to Daadi and cause her health damage.

Abhi can not make it right for Pragya by supporting Tannu (as in a marriage/husband sense) or holding himself responsible for Pragya's sad marriage. She doesn't even want to move on and marry someone else.

Didn't Abhi tell Tanu that he wanted Pragya out of his life but it was only fair to save her because she had fulfilled all her responsibilities to him.

Didn't Abhi respond to Pragya's love confession with days of misbehavior and avoidance instead of telling her he needed time.

Didn't Abhi slap Pragya because he had no better response for his feeings of rage and humiliation

Didn't Abhi demonstrate time and time again that he is capable of saving the day with big good deeds but incapable of acting like an honest person on all the regular days in between.

Didn't Abhi stay in this mistaken marriage without thought, intention, planning or regret until circumstances caught up with him.

Doesn't Abhi show us all the time that he is a flawed human being with a lot of growing up to do.
