Part 2

Pragya couldn't believe the events of the last few hours as she sat on the balcony floor of their room with her head resting on the chair. Tears were still streaming down her face and she wondered if she would ever be able to stop them. Why did it hurt so much? Why did it feel as if someone had wrenched her heart out from her chest and was dangling it out of her body? Oh why, oh why? She thought she should get a hold of herself, there was no use crying over it, what was done was done. But she could not ignore the voice in her head which kept on saying "No, let me be." For once, she wanted to revel in her own pity party and then maybe she would find some solution to all of this. Why did things like this always happen to her, why was she a magnet that seemed to attract only problems after problems?

When she had first heard Abhi coming towards her at the pool area, she instinctively felt something was different about his manner. It was as if she had a premonition of what he was about to say to her. She felt so torn between wanting to throw her arms around his neck in a love-filled hug yet she knew that was totally opposite of what she should be doing. She could not possibly lead him on, not after what she had just learnt about the sore, raw truth of his and Tanu's relationship. Tanu was pregnant and the doctor had confirmed it.

She felt completely shattered and in utmost despair. All she really wanted was for him to take her into his strong arms and assure her that everything would work itself out. But she knew that was not possible. Things were different now. She couldn't, in all fairness to Tanu, continue this farce of a relationship. She had known right from the beginning that Abhi had feelings for Tanu so why had she allowed herself to fall into this trap? Why had she allowed herself to love a man who would never be able to reciprocate his love to her? This state she found herself now in was really her own fault and it was time she made a decision.

She couldn't put the life of an unborn child at stake. This baby was a part of Abhi and there was no way she would be selfish and think of herself at a time like this. Abhi needed to take responsibility for this child; simply put, it was the right thing to do. He needed to marry Tanu as no one would accept Tanu whilst she remained as Abhi's wife. It would only cause harm and pain to everyone. No matter which way you looked at it, people were going to get hurt.

As she stared at him blankly whilst he went on chatting about how things had changed between them, she couldn't help but smile inwardly at the truth of his statement. If he only knew exactly how things had changed between them . . . They had travelled such a long path to be where they were today, from hating each other in the beginning to just barely tolerating each other for the sake of everyone else to truly enjoying each other's company. That's what she meant to him, she thought, a true companion, just a companion and nothing more.

She stopped him in mid-sentence. This had to end now. When she told him that she was lying and that she had never ever loved him, her heart shattered into a thousand pieces as she watched his jaw drop in shock. She tried to ignore the niggling feeling she got inside her stomach at his reaction and refused to think too much about the reasons behind it. Why was he behaving this way? She meant nothing to him anyway, so why was he acting as if though she had fiercely betrayed him. Here she was doing him a favour by removing her existence from his life, and he was behaving as if though it was the last thing he wanted. This was what he had always professed to want anyway. By extracting herself out of his life, she was merely making it easy for him. Couldn't he just understand?

She couldn't go through this emotional trauma with him. She was making things worse for both him and her. She turned around and raced away, her heart sinking when she realised she was leaving her love behind her and things would never be the same between them ever again.

Part 3

That's where Abhi found her hours later, on the balcony, her eyes closed and her breathing soft and gentle. He knew at once she had found solace in her sleep. She looked frail and fragile and he could still make out the white tear streaks which marked her face, causing her beautiful, flawless image to look devastated. He walked towards her and cautiously scooped her in his arms and carried her towards their bed. She didn't even stir and he instinctively understood that she had been through a lot emotionally and was drained.

He gently laid her down on the bed as he covered her with the bedcover. He was starting with his mission right this moment, he thought. The mission that would ensure he got back the love of his life. He slipped in beside her and pulled her closely towards him as he curled his arm around her waist, her back pressed against his torso. Nothing prepared him for the overwhelming feeling of love he felt in that single moment. It was as if he had died and gone to heaven. He knew then that this was where he wanted to be for the rest of his life, this is where he belonged. He didn't know when sleep took over, he was so emotionally exhausted himself.

He found himself waking up to someone gently poking him in his sides but he chose to pretend that he was still asleep. He was revelling in the current moment, where her body was still pressed against him and his arm wound loosely around her, to let her know that he was awake. He tightened his grip around her whilst his eyes were still closed and made a moaning sound that gave her no misinterpretation that he was thoroughly enjoying her in this position. She was his captive and there was nothing she could do to escape . . . or so he thought.

He should have known that his feisty wife was never going to let him continue getting away with holding her so close to him, not without a fight at least. Her pokes were no longer gentle, they were now full blown pushes of his body away from her and wriggling so much, it felt as if she were jumping on the bed. With a swift turn, he rolled over taking her with him and found her atop him, which was fully the intention.

"Good morning, dear wifey", he said. It came out softly and he could feel her breathing constrict in her throat. That told him immediately that he did have an effect on her so he decided to continue to engage her whilst enjoying himself thoroughly.

"Has anyone told you how beautiful your eyes are? " He knew it sounded corny but he wanted to keep her there forever and he would say anything to prolong the moment.

"Let go of me, I need to shower!" she hissed.

"Great idea, I'll join you", he said as he watched her face change to all the different shades of the rainbow. It was a priceless moment for him watching her face flutter with emotions. He hoped she was imagining what that might be like as the thought was definitely going through his mind. He could say with total certainty that the though definitely appealed to him.

"I think not!" she haughtily replied and then "Dadi, I'm coming!" she hollered at the door which was enough to catch him off-guard and he found himself releasing his hold which she took full advantage off. She jumped off him, ran into the bathroom and shut the door lightning quick. A second later, he heard the key turn and knew she had locked it. He chuckled at her actions; it appeared his dear wife was not about to take any chances when it came to him sharing a shower with her.

He decided to use the bathroom in the guest bedroom so he could be ready in time to have breakfast with everyone downstairs. He was not about to let any moment slip by to be with Pragya. He amusingly thought that it would be a perfect opportunity to shower her with his affection and attention in front of an audience as he knew she would never dare retaliate in front of his family members. It would be a perfect setting for what he planned.

Part 4

Pragya stood in the shower, the hot water dripping down her body as she tried to calm down and re-compose herself. Her heart was beating so fast that she was sure Abhi could hear it outside. She was certain he would follow through on his suggestion of showering with her and she could not get to the bathroom fast enough. Her husband would be the death of her, for sure, if he continued to make such advances and provocative comments. She could not get over how this man made her feel and how he stirred such beautiful feelings of intense love for him in her heart.

Something had definitely changed in his thoughts and behaviour. She thought he would be furious with her and would totally ignore her this morning after last night's fiasco. She had expected him to taunt her and make certain she knew exactly how he felt about so-called liars. However, the reaction he gave was the total opposite of what she had envisaged. She restlessly thought about what could have made him behave this way, what had changed in him and more so, what was he trying to achieve with his notion of reverse psychology? Somehow, the answer she formed in her head to the last question scared her the most.

The way he had held her over him and looked deep into her eyes was so overwhelming. It was a crime for someone to look that hot so early in the morning, especially without a shower. The thought did not surprise her though as she reminded herself that her husband never failed to remind her that he was "Rockstar Abhi" after all. She had always felt that she herself never looked like a million bucks at any stage even after taking shower.

This brought her to another thought. How on earth had she gotten into the bed? The last she remembered was bawling her eyes out on the balcony. And the very last thing she expected was to wake up in her husband's tight embrace, which by the way, he seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed she thought, her body and mind becoming restless once more. Just what was he up to, she wondered again but no ideas popped into her head. This was Abhi they were talking about, after all, and nobody proved to be more unpredictable than her husband.

As she continued to let her thoughts drift, she was never more confused in her life. Her reasoning behind telling him she didn't love him was quite simple; he loved Tanu, Tanu loved him, Tanu was expecting his baby and clearly, there was no place for her in that equation. This meant she needed to get out of his life and make room for Tanu and their baby. Her plan was therefore simple, the only way she could achieve this was to make everyone hate her. If he hated her, if Dadi hated her, if Daasi and everyone else hated her, it would be easy for Abhi to throw her out of the house. Aliya already hated her so that was no issue. Tanu would then get her rightful place and her baby would be given its rightful name.

She was now in a fix as her husband didn't seem to hate her much after her outburst last night. No problem, she thought, she would simply move on to her next target: Dadi. Surely if she behaved rudely with Dadi, Abhi would not tolerate it? After all, Dadi meant the most to him and he would never allow anyone to be disrespectful to his Dadi. Yes, that was the way to go, she thought. She wondered how she would carry it off as everyone knew she adored Dadi and she could never hurt Dadi. It would be awful for her yet this acting was absolutely necessary for the betterment of everyone's lives. She was just in the way and she needed to make way for Tanu so Abhi could be a father.

She quickly finished her shower, dressed and headed to the kitchen, as she struggled to think of ways she would irk people today.

Part 5

Abhi managed to get himself to the breakfast table at the same time that everyone else did. The first strange thing he noticed was that his wife was sitting at the table waiting to be served. And she never did that, everyone knew it. This could get quite interesting. The first person to take the bait was Taiji. Whilst looking directly at Pragya, she asked, "What are you serving for breakfast, Pragya?"

"Why don't you ask Mitali to serve you breakfast? She is after all your daughter-in-law and I'm sure she's never served anything to you a day in her life" was the impudent reply. Abhi noted how she conveniently missed the word "bhabhi".

To say that Taiji and everyone else were astounded at the reply was a total understatement. Everyone stared at Pragya with their mouth hanging wide opened. "Are you okay, Pragya beta?" "Are you worried about anything? " "Did someone in this house say or do something to hurt you?" "You can tell me, your dadi, you know that, right?" "I will make it all right, but we should never speak to our elders this way." Dadi tried to ascertain in vain what was going on in Pragya's mind as she had never witnessed this behaviour from her pyaari bahu before.

"It's nothing, dadi, I'm just really tired of people taking advantage of every situation, that's all," replied Pragya.

"I really hate opportunists! Things need to change here, and it's time everyone pulled their weight. There's no reason why Mitali cannot prepare food, I think we should take turns." Mitali bhabhi was not impressed, to say the least. What was this Chashmish getting her into? Where did this Chashmish have to come from and volunteer her services, Mitali's services to the family?

"Acha, tho ye baath hai?" You are upset because you do all the chores and you look after everyone's needs. Ye ek choti si baath hai, my dear. We have so many servants here and we've never asked you to take over any work. We've always wanted all of your needs to be taken care of. We want you to feel like queens here. From today, no one is allowed to work and that is my final decision," said Dadi in a pleasant voice.

This was not going the way she had planned, thought Pragya. The idea was to make people cross so that they would throw her out of the house and Dadi was being her usual self, just too understanding for her liking. It was ruining Pragya's plan and she was determined to work harder at it. God, it was hard work being rude and intentionally hurtful. How on earth did Aliya do it all the time, she couldn't help but think. Pragya just nodded her head at Dadi, relinquishing defeat.

She looked over at Taiji slyly from the corner of her eye. Pragya could not mistake the distinct dislike she held for her just by looking at Taiji's facial expressions. Mitali bhabhi was no better. But what was that she saw on Aliya's face? Was it awe? Awe of her, plain Jane Pragya? Or was it respect? Respect that she, Pragya, could carry her weight around if she really needed to? She could see Aliya processing what had just occurred and trying to work out what Pragya was up to.

That was definitely interesting and Aliya could very well help her in her quest, Pragya thought. Brilliant, just brilliant! Why hadn't she thought of it before? Aliya had everything to gain and nothing to lose. Aliya would finally be rid of her, thought Pragya. She had made no secret of it, that she disliked Pragya and preferred Tanu over her any day. Technically Aliya wouldn't be helping her but would actually be helping Tanu, her best friend to get into this house, thought Pragya as she justified her thoughts. Who better than Aliya? She was the queen of drama and knew how to scheme and plot better than anyone else and she could definitely teach Pragya a thing or two. Yes, Aliya would be the ideal candidate, indeed she would. Now, Pragya just had to figure out a way to get her on board.
