Epilogue Page 11

Abhi sat down on the sofa and took the book from the shelf. On usual days he would just sit and read for a whole hour but since this girl Pragya had entered his life, things had changed. Not just the fact that he was now a married man but even little things that he shared with himself personally had changed. His mind wandered to the recent events of his life.

Everything he ever did was for Daadi, his happiness lied within hers and her happiness was within the one and only girl whom she had met many times, Pragya Arora. She was a bubbly girl who lived in the moment, no doubt about that. There was something about her presence which made anyone smile. She made everyone smile wherever she went and that was exactly what had happened with his Daadi and to some extent with him too.

Since the day Daadi had met her on the road one day it was as if some sort of spell had been casted on her, she only insisted on one thing which was his marriage and that too with Pragya. Apparently she was the perfect girl - caring, kind natured, out going, everything Daadi was looking for in her bahu. She had never thought she would meet girl such a perfect match for her ideal bahu but she had and that was how he had ended up married with Pragya Arora.

It had all happened so quickly, Daadi had taken the proposal to her house where they had met her maa Sarla, Bulbul her younger sister - a bubbly girl, a total copy of Pragya, her Daadi - a true rockstar, Janki and Purvi. He had learnt that her father had passed away and Sarla had brought the girls up single handed.

He had always imagined Pragya to be a bouncy smily girl but still the day he had seen her for the first time he had been left surprised. He could not believe that Daadi accepted her as her bahu. She was respective and caring but the way she presented her self was, well just different to other girls.

The first time he had seen her which was the day Daadi took the marriage proposal she had walked in muttering something to herself. He could still remember exactly what she had been wearing. He was expecting some really long chathri like dress seeing as this was Daadis choice but God was he wrong. She was wearing a normal salwar kameez, the top was a pale yellow and the bottoms were a dark shade of pink. Her hair fell down on her shoulder loosely. She brushed her hand through her hair and had asked her mother if she had taken her tablets before continuing to realise that him and Daadi were sitting there. She had instantly recognised Daadi and went to touch her feet to take blessings. He could see that her mother was glaring at her as if to say she was late or whatever and had motioned her to go in.

After a few moments she had come out with a different set of clothes, an orange anarkali, some jewellery and slightly more makeup. She seemed to be annoyed but her mum had made her sit and talk. Bulbul her little sister insisted that both should go and talk privately. He could still remember the conversation after they had walked out.

The first thing she did was pull her dupatta off of her head to let hair fall loose from all the clips. She clearly hated the decking up and removed her earrings as well. It left him stunned and she clearly noticed his expression because the next thing she asked was why the hell he was horrified. She admitted that she hated dressing up and all so he could reject her now if he wanted as he was a rockstar and she was a middle class teacher. She even asked him why he wanted to marry her and he had explained to her that he didn't believe in love and all, all that mattered was Daadi and her decisions. Surprisingly she didn't believe in love and all either and was ready to marry for her mothers happiness. Both had agreed for the marriage and that was how it all happened.

The next thing he knew they were engaged and then the marriage preparation started. He didn't even realise it would all happen so quickly. He remembered the day of the marriage, Pragya was so different. He had for some reason expected her to be fully dressed up with heavy attire and jewellery even though he knew she hated all that. When she walked in he had to admit his heart did stop for a few moments. She was wearing the simplest red lahenga, with a very simple set of jewellery. Her makeup was naturally done and she seemed like bubbly self. She was so different from all the other girls he had met and from then on he knew his Daadis choice was not wrong. They shared many likes and dislikes but they were both arrogant which meant sometimes things didn't quite work out.

Their suhaag raat had been a unique one. He knew what to do but he wasn't quite comfortable as he hadn't dated anyone in the past, which was surprising for a rockstar. He had walked in and to his surprise she had already changed and was taking her jewellery off. She had arranged all of her stuff in the wardrobe and had made herself home.

"Oy, rockstar, go get changed" she said.

"I, uhh, I" He had been left speechless. She truly was a unique girl and he had gone on to realise that and still after a week of their marriage she continues to surprise him with her ways.

Abhi snapped out of his memories to look at her clapping her hands before his eyes.

"Oy Rockstar what are you thinking about?" She asked

"Oh nothing," Abhi replied shutting his book and taking his glasses of which he only ever used to read.

"Your phones ringing" Pragya stated and lay on the bed as he went outside to the balcony.

She stared after her rockstar husband who had turned out to be completely different to what she had expected. His private life was completely different to his public self. She noticed his glasses on the draw, she picked them up and put them away. She had never known he had taken such interest in books. Whenever he wasn't playing music he would read books. He always wore his glasses at home but when he went out he wore his lens. Why he bothered she didn't know, but this Chashmish rockstar hid many things from the world and she realised that he wasn't such a spoilt brat after all.

She too snapped out of her thoughts as he walked in putting the phone away. He lay down on the bed next to her and closed his eyes. She stared at him for a few moments before laying down too. This rockstar was so confusing, he always seemed tense about something but what she didn't know.

The next morning she woke up and after giving Abhi his coffee she skipped down the steps like she always did, she knew that as the bahu of the house she should behave more like a woman but she just couldn't control her bubbly bouncy self and plus Daadi didn't seem to mind so why worry? She didn't even wear any of the sarees her mother had given to her, she stayed in her salwar kameez and Daadi or Abhi didn't seem to mind so why bother?

She walked to Daadis room with her medicines and she smiled at her. On usual days Daadi would take the tablets and then Pragya would leave to teach at her college but today Daadi wanted to speak to her.

"Beta, I don't know if you have noticed or it worried you but don't you feel Abhi is always tensed?" She asked.

"Yeah Daadi sometimes I feel something is the matter" she replied.

"Haan, he never accepts it but he feels pressured. You know we weren't always very rich, we lived in a chawl and Abhi hated seeing all of us troubled, struggling each day of our life. Since his parent passed away, his only aim was to become successful. He worked hard and became a rockstar but he has forgotten to how to live life. I know you are caring and happy all the time which is one of the main reasons I chose you as his life partner. I have planned a trip for both of you to go to Switzerland for some days, I think you both need a break after doing so much work all the time."

"No problem Daadi, I'm here, no worries, I will sort this Rockstar out." And saying that Pragya bounced out of the room and through the door.

Daadi smiled after her while Abhi came out of his room and left for Sarlas house. Last night she had called him saying she needed to discuss some things with him.

Abhi arrived at the house wondering what the matter was, she had specifically asked him not to mention anything to Pragya, he hoped it wasn't anything serious.

As he walked in Sarla greeted him and asked him if he wanted anything to drink or eat. After asking for a glass of water she sat down and began to explain why she had called him there.

"I hope Pragya hasn't been troubling you, I know she can be annoying at times but she is innocent and doesn't think practically at times."

"No Aunty she's fine, Daadi loves her and she keeps everyone happy" Abhi assured her.

"You see, I'm worried about her, she is a bubbly girl but she doesn't like sticking to rules of the society and she just genuinely behaves different from other girls. I know you are responsible which I why I am asking you, you are the only one who can teach her to just calm down at times and think practically. She is a grown woman now not a teenager. She has a sharp tongue at times, I really hope she has t said anything bad to you. I am asking you all this because she doesn't listen to me at all. Her answer to everything is why bother? But as her husband I thought maybe you could do something about it and she may listen to you"

Abhi thought for a moment, he could totally understand where Sarla was coming from. After living with her for a week he had realised Pragya was carefree all the time. She was just like a kid but at times he had to admit she was just slightly annoying, he remembered the other day when she refused to give his book back. It was nothing big she was just trying to have fun but sometimes she needed to learn to be serious. And then there was her anger, she got irritated easily.

Abhi knew that this was going to be hard but not impossible. He assured Sarla that he would try his best and left saying bye. When he arrived home Daadi told him about their trip to Switzerland.

He walked to his room to find Pragya packing their bags. She was skipping around the room waving things about throwing clothes here and there, so busy in her own fantasies she forgot he was staring at her. He smiled to himself watching her sing and dance, he liked watching her so free and sometimes wished he could do the same.

She placed one of his shirts in the suitcase and twirled around not realising where she was going and ran straight into him slipping over one of her dupattas on the floor taking him down on the floor with herself. His lips brushed against her cheek, looking into each other's eyes they stayed there for a moment before realising they were on the floor.

"Arre, rockstar how long will you stay like that, move I need to pack." Pragya smiled as he got off.

Abhi got up and walked in to the washroom smiling at that little moment he had just shared with her. He loved the way nothing mattered to her and she said whatever came to her mind. He picked up the rest of his stuff and packed everything along with her.

That night both went to sleep wondering how they were going to change the others ways, it was going to be tough but not impossible.

Res!
Eeks so glad this is an SS not an OS! interesting and different, am curious about what's next. Love how you've kept Sarla and Daadi the same. "Chashmish rockstar" is too funy and I'm intrigued at Pragya's different dress style. I love that she's still working too. Great job simmo!
