On the first point that it's just mindless fun...well I agree with the mindless part. Brainless is probably a more apt word. The fun part...not so much - I don't see the "fun" in torturing, abusing, and debasing your emotionally distraught wife, who for reasons best known to herself, is madly in love with you for your supposed "goodness." I don't see the "fun" in telling your wife you want to drive her to suicide, especially in a country that has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. I could go on, but you get the gist of what I'm saying I'm sure.
On the second point... as a consumer with no input when it comes to the TRPs, India Forum gives us a great platform to share our voices. As a woman, it is my right to object to what is appalling and offensive. As a human being, it is my prerogative to say we can do better. I have written about this before - it is high time we stop romanticizing egregious behavior. We can't afford to do that anymore as a society. Torturing your wife is inexcusable. Abhi reminds me of a story I read in The Canterbury Tales about a man who tortures and tests his wife relentlessly. Abhi is Walter and Pragya is Griselda. Read it if you don't believe me. It's pretty sad to have to compare Abhi to a medieval jerk.
I completely agree with all this, thank you so much for saying it.
I think the fact that so many of us are upset and the forum is full of new threads and discussions, is proof that they are pushing things WAY too far. To an nonredeemable point. The romantic male lead has literally manhandled/physically abused Pragya multiple times, mentally tortured her for fun, cheated on her to her face, beat up her best friend, thrown around/destroyed her belongings, come very close to what would be considered attempted rape. And now he's BLACKMAILING her into marrying another man she doesn't even love. And the majority of this has been in the last what.. week? in the show's timeline.
I feel after a certain point, at least for myself, it's really hard to ignore a woman constantly being abused just because they've randomly inserted a cute comedic husband/wife scene with a wind machine fueled long eye lock thrown in at the end.
(And I say this as someone who absolutely loves those scenes!)
