I like watching these shows too and by calling the characters regressive or doormats, I don't think the forum members are questioning the taste of Indian audiences. They are terms used because the characterization frustrates or doesn't make sense. Also, if logical story lines and plot development were shown, who is to say the Indian audiences would not love the story? Making the heroine fight for her rights might empower women in India or elsewhere who face such harrassment to stand up for themselves. The problem that only such shows run forever could be cos the producers don't risk experimenting with truer to life stories, those may meet with even better reception from the audiences. And I think the fact that we are all here even to discuss the show means we do like watching it for whatever reason.

shows run forever because audience expresses its love by watching it and contributing to TRPs. Thats the only thing that matters. Producers are here to make money. Who would make a loss making show with good content as compared to a not so good content but higher TRP show ? If I were a producer I would not. Theres is a channel zindagi with sensible stories but the shows have disastrous TRPs becoz Indian audience does not like watching it.

I am not sure what Channel Zindagi is but I am not saying that the stories have to be drab and boring. I watch this show because it is light entertainment and cos this like most of the other soaps are slapdash romances anyway. But still does not mean the show cannot have logically drawn characters that stay true to character or if the characters do swerve why development cannot be shown to trace that change. Sans that, some of us viewers try to fill in the gaps with our own reasons as to why a strong woman like Pragya suddenly turns docile or why a man who is supposedly kind towards his own family acts like a clueless heel when it comes to his wife.

Plus Pragya standing up for herself could still be made fun and entertaining while imparting a valuable message. The power of the script writers could if they were talented enough , and I don't doubt they are as they have managed to keep us enthralled this long, prevent the show from sliding into a channel zindagi kind of low TRP show. A show could potentially be good, entertaining and harness great TRPs all at the same time. Even tho I am not sure what Amir Khan's show garnered in terms of TRP and in spite of it belonging to a totally different genre, that show is a great example of a TV show that can be entertaining and enlightening whilst resounding with a powerful message.

Anyway, off to google what Channel Zindagi is :)

Bingo! It is inconceivable that a woman who was portrayed as a strong college professor, who took up Rachna's fight, who refused to marry the idiot in the first few episodes and this snivelling doormat are the same woman.

And yes, in real life there are educated women who are in abusive relationship. BUT,BUT, education and strength are not the same thing. Here they had portrayed Pragya as a traditional, educated AND strong woman who has suddenly turned into a creature that I for one cannot stand to see.

There are only 3 characters who I am wanting to see more of - and unfortunately they are rarely there - Pragya's Daadi, Rachna and Suresh.

There rest is regressive shit. Just because the TRPs are good, does not make it progressive OR good content. But yes, the actors are pretty amazing that they portray such crap with conviction!

I like Rachna and Suresh too, would love to see more of them.

Agreed with everything...plus I HATE how they show pragya to be such a spineless wimp...this is an educated girl of today and not only does she put up with all of abhis shitty behaviour, but she dosent even defend herself or stand up to herself when she's blamed or mistreated...save the few flashes of her accusing abhi of infidelity and the lectures she gives tanu...she was pretty much submitting herself to leaving the house and thinking she dosent "deserve" to be here... instead of proving her innocence or even clarifying that she injured her foot in the mms video and the situation was misinterpreted...she didn't even put forth her point of view or didn't bother to prove herself until abhi gave her chance...why the eff does he get to give her a "chance"...can't she take things in her own hands and prove herself?
It bothers me that such a doormat is upheld as the ideal woman, wife daughter blah blah on the show...respecting elders and all is well and good but how abt some self respect?

I don't watch this show on a regular basis (which is good for my brain cells) but since the past few days I've seen some scenes here and there on TV and I can't help but think that this show has some really pathetic characterizations and a unconvincing storyline.

Abhi is such an ass...or even worse - a misogynistic pig. How a woman like Pragya (who supposedly oh so self-respecting) still worships the ground he walks on is beyond me. What's his problem, really?...woh kuch bhi kare toh raasleela but uski biwi kare toh character dheela?

Man that totally cracked me up!!🤣🤣🤣

Watched KKB after a while...let me get this straight: Abhi has been cheating since day one, beating people up (anger management issues, anyone?), physically/emotionally/psychologically hurting his wife, and now Pragya is weeping like a crazed Rudaali for this pathetic excuse of a husband she has fallen in love with (whatever that means)...not to mention, he's one of the dumbest characters to ever disgrace the TV (although I really like the actor playing the part)...I don't know what's worse...the fact that this crap is written and shown on TV or the fact that it's so romanticized and popular. I wonder if EK and her female writers would have tolerated men like Abhi. I know, I know...it's just a show but audience tastes are really alarming when it comes to women tolerating abuse from their husbands. Glad there are shows like DAK (at least in its present form) that show a strong woman with a backbone and dignity.

someone needs to donate a brain to Pragya ASAP. this show is getting unbearable. Now she needs to prove her innocence, what about Abhi? he has been unfaithful since day 1, no one gives a crap about kicking him out of the house for cheating on pragya? so why such a double standard? Sure, it's Abhi's house or whatever, but that doesn't mean that everyone is blind and can not see that Abhi is straight up having an affair, how come Daadi never notices when Abhi and Tanu are hugging or talking? How come Daadi didn't have a heart attack when she saw Abhi and Tanu together in that van after his concert? such a double standard, if i were Pragya I would never "prove my innocence," to abhi, the only person Pragya needs to show that she is a good person is to Abhi's daadi, screw Abhi, She should leave him after she show's daadi she is a good bahu and let Abhi be with taaliyah and realize how manipulative they are. give Pragya some dignity. PLZ.
Storyline is getting absolutely nowhere until Abhi see's how low and cheap Aaliyah and Tanu really are. After that he should repent for his mistakes everyday.

If Abhi had a half functioning brain I'd think he was faking this whole 2nd marriage thing and it's actually a 2nd marriage between him and Pragya (somehow he has found out about the massive deception and is putting on this act to catch the culprits) but he's a jackass and a half (the character Abhi is that is, NOT the actor). Haven't been watching but watched y'day and today bcuz had nothing else to do at the moment - nice to see Sarla not needing smelling salts...disgusted with weepy waily Pragya though she said the first sensible thing in ages when she told Abhi he has no rights over her now that they're divorced. The cousin daadis are sweet but not effective and the less said about the other clowns in that family the better...where is Akaash? Perhaps he can redeem himself if he's able to do the right thing/something positive for Pragya. Glad Purab is now treated with kindness and gratitude by Arora family. Wish Pragya's daadi would give four dramatic, stupendous slaps to Aalu (Aaliya and Tanu) and a kick in the rear to her daamad-pota for his hypocrisy and stupidity. Since I have not been watching not sure about where Rachna, her mom and Purvi are.
