Neelima, in comparing Mandar to Basu Chatterjee or Hrishikesh Mukherjee, I presume you are referring to the sublte humour and slice of life narrative of the show...if you ask me, that comes from the script. Of course, HK and BC specialised in that genre of cinema. However, not having seen any other of MD's works, I am unable to figure out if that is indeed his specialty,
However, in my view, possibly the Dr Dubey track and the overall subtle humour is possibly in the genre of HK's or BC's cinema, During the Mallika track, I really thought the script was going the Basu Bhattacharya way. He was a wonderful filmmaker who has always delved into the complexities of human relationships.
Thank you Sujatha, for your valuable comments..
I am glad ,more and more people are participating in this debate..
Hrishikesh Mukherji,Basu Chatterji,Basu Bhattacharya are my favourite directors..
Many people don't seem to know Sai Paranjpye's work (Chashme Baddoor, Katha,Sparsh,Saaz),
She is in the same league..
The charm, decency, subtelty, simplicity were the essence of these legendary directors' style..
Their films were delightful..they brought smiles on our faces, they touched our hearts..
To watch their films was an enriching experience..
I have this feeling that I experienced all these emotions while watching KTLK.. and thought
that we should remember the Director of the show...
