But yes, once proved beyond doubt, he cannot even be tried under IPC. We were just discussing this whole human rights thing at home this morning. Rahul Bose is against death penalty and chemical castration and just about everything. He wants the law to take its course. He calls for attitudinal change. However, that will have long term consequences. Must ask these actiivists to come up with short term plans on how to deal with the guilty!

@underlined...where were these so called activists when a defenceless girl was brutalized by 6 men on a running bus and thrown out of it once they had their fun?? why didn't they raise their voice against that? and what kind of attitudinal change?? you think making them read Bhagwat Gita or Khuraan or Bible will bring about this change in them? they didn't change their attitude when that girl was screaming in pain and for mercy...attitudinal change can't be brought in psychopaths...and thats what these are...PSYCHOPATHS!!!!

@BOLD THIS IS WHAT I MEANT BY RETROSPECTIVE LAWS...EVEN IF HE WILL BE 21 AFTER 5 MONTHS U CANT GUIDE HIM BY A LAW WHICH HE WAS NOT A SUBJECT TO WHILE HE COMMITED THAT CRIME...this is what is called ex post facto law

Sujatha-What people like Rahul Bose don't understand that victim also had human rights.Attitudinal changes are must but won't come overnight.Punishment is equally necessary.Look at Saudi Arabia, atleast people fear the law there.

no Suja, he is not talking about attitudinal change of the offenders,,he is talking of the attitude of society as a whole...like educating and influencing young boys and girls on gender issues...but that is long term...it needs to happen and will hopefully help in shaping a better tomorrow..

But, I think we need to deal with today first...we need to protect our women from gender violence today...and exemplary punishment will hopefully be a deterrent in that context,..and yes, while talking of the rights of the offenders, somewhere they seem to forget about the rights of the victim...that she had a right to a peaceful and safe life...when you have violated the right of an innocent, , then I think your rights are automatically abrogated!

Anger, grief, shame, RIP you fighter. As a headline in a daily put it, 'RIP, we won't' - and that alone would be our true tribute to this fighter. Whether it's little changes in our milieu or comprehensive changes in legislation, let us together not allow this momentum to die down, until we effect these changes - else we will all have to collectively hang our heads in shame, as there will be no greater betrayal to this braveheart!

That means they don't fear Indian law.But let's not go off the topic.Attitudinal changes in society which is not possible without proper education, strict laws & their implementation are all very necessary.

@sujaji and sujataji...yes it does need a kick but the problem is not with the law it is the system to be blamed...in lndia laws r made to be broken or amended...if any law is not as per the whims and wishes of the parlimentary people they amend the laws...and as far as this act of protecting the minors is concerned in this case he should be punished no doubt in it...but this act is required for other minors and there are number of cases that can be sited to show y the act is needed...and that kick first should b given to our politicians first and then the law
