Dev is a genuinely nice guy. He can be very helpful, kind and considerate. He is beloved by all his employees, he is very caring towards his family. He works hard not because he himself loves his materialistic pleasures, but so he can provide as much as possible for his family. S1 shows how Sona sees his qualities and slowly, steadily falls in love with him. He didn't have time or the luxury to think or wonder about emotions like love, but when he did fall in love, he fell deeply and irrevocably. He loves Sona immensely, she is the center of his universe.

He has his set of flaws, which probably sets him apart from other ITV male leads who are perfect in all ways. Dev is not. He can be rude, ruthless, has anger issues, he makes short-term decisions without thinking through consequences, especially when it involves his mother. His main issue is his upbringing, his mental conditioning by his mother, which pulls him in directions that he himself rather not go. He couldn't bear to part with Sona, but he did, for his mother.

You see, Sona was HIS, his own happiness. His own happiness can never be greater than his mother and his family. So Sona can never be prioritized over his family. That is the fact of the matter. Sona also understands this. She never asks to be placed in that position either, because she is well aware that Dev, even if he wanted to, can't do it. It does not mean he doesn't love her or care about her, because he does, she knows that. But she is his own love, his life, which will never be prioritized over his duties and responsibilities.

There were instances in S1 where he behavior was abominable. The farmhouse scene was his absolute lowest point. He does apologize to Sona in the same farmhouse 7 years later and wonders why she is with him, why she helps him and his family, when he was never able to be with her and support her as she needed. What the writers failed to do was address those particular instances and have him apologize properly, but I guess the writers didn't want Dev to be too apologetic, or what? I don't know? ML syndrome?🙄

Asha's death: Dev shared a very lovely bond with Sona's mother. Asha truly understood Dev, sometimes even more than Sona. So saying that he didn't know she was sick and just left when Asha was dying, is something no fan of Kuch Rang will be able to digest. No way. Dev was simply not that person. The writers messed up big time when they just showed a casual "he left for seminar", instead of spending some episodes showing exactly what happened. Dev stayed with Ayush's grandfather when he was in the hospital, but left Asha? No way. She was his favorite Bose girl. But oh well, the writers wrapped up a good and interesting track in a hurry, just to bring in this Serendipity woman. 🤷‍♀️

My personal interpretation/justification from that half-baked Asha story the writers threw at us is this: Asha may have taken a turn for the worse when he left, and died. He would have come back right away, but wasn't there with Sona when that moment happened. He understood Sona's pain of losing her mother, but didn't realize the anger that was due to his absence in that specific moment. He probably thought he needed to give her space and with time, the wound festered making it worse for their relationship.

Why he left in the first place, when she was in the hospital, I cannot come up with any explanation for it other than the writers just wanted some weird drama. S1 Dev would not have left. 🤷‍♀️ But the writers are excellent in inconsistencies. So maybe this was the Dev who didn't check up on Sona for 7 long years🤷‍♀️, which I found highly improbable back then as well.🤷‍♀️

As I said in my last post....it wasn't just Asha's death. She was treated unfairly in Ayush matter as well. I couldn't fathom why is she still with him.

But now post the pill popping incident...she isn't even able to do that.

Don't get me started on the Ayush track. They spent 100 plus episodes post leap in S1 establishing the bond between Dev, Sona & Soha. There were so many hints thrown in about how Soha is exactly like Dev & Sona. And Dev always said he wanted a tiny Sonakshi so the writers definitely wanted to show Soha as their daughter. But now to restart S3, they showed something as stupid as a child swap. I still don't know if they did any DNA test because it was something they mentioned in passing & swept under the carpet. I actually don't know what they wanted to show there because they reversed all the character development of the leads (esp Dev & Ishwari) & then brushed all of that under the carpet for this Sanjana track. Dev was a bad husband but post leap, he stood for Soha multiple times. He literally used to agree with everything she said so I really don't see Dev as someone who would let his son suffer just to keep his mom happy. Even Ishwari had learnt some lessons (even if it was after a badly written Khatri track) & while she was extremely problematic, she was not this pathetic caricature who flips every alternate episode. The writing was never this bad in S1. They made Ishwari change Ayush's name & then everyone is okay with it now after one sleeping pill overdose by Dev. And they have jumped to a random third angle story which doesn't even make sense. Right now, I don't even understand what this Dev & Sona are and what kind of relationship they have because one day the writers say they drifted apart, next day they romance, next day they fight, next day Dev is insensitive, next day they randomly patch up. It's like the writers also don't know what to make of their characters. Even the timeline is messed up. They had reunited after 7 years. Had Shubh and Dev was at home for at least a year I guess. So within a few months, they got distant (without context) & now they are back to romancing with psycho third angle looming in the background 😂

I guess the only explanation for it is that she is too much in love with him. She had mentioned ( cant recollect the exact words) in S1 when they had their first disagreement after their love confession that he had become so important for her that no one other than him had the power to totally hurt her.

Sona always knew that Ishwari was the most important person in his life & she had no issues about it. During her stint as a nutritionist to Ishwari, she handled Ishwari's stubbornness & tantrums with equal parts of tact, understanding, sensitivity & firmness & her loving nature. Ishwari warmed up to her & became very fond of her. But Ishwari's feelings towards Sonakshi underwent a 180° turn when she became aware of Devakshi's relationship & Dev's deep love for her Sonakshi. Sonakshi had always been a self respecting, opinionated & strong person who would never hesitate to call a spade a spade. She would always take a stand for herself and for what was right and Dev himself was at the receiving end of it before & during their courtship period but after he threw her out of his life the first time due to Ishwari's insecurities, Sonakshi after their reconciliation realized that to be a part of Dev's life , she had to remain in the good books of her MIL & hence she took it upon herself to turn herself into an ideal bahu post their marriage at the cost of her self respect. Everytime she let go off her self respect, it has always been due to her immense love for Dev. She tolerated all types of insults, mental abuses, humiliation, uncaring attitude from mother & son including their inhumane, insensitive & atrocious behaviour during the infertility track for this very reason. Her mother, Asha too has to share some part of the blame as she always advised Sonakshi to overlook/ignore both Ishwari & Dev's wrongdoings & to compromise & make adjustments in her marriage even when at times Sonakshi was reluctant to do so. Bijoy has always been more forthright & correct in his assessment about Dev & Ishwari's behavioural traits & patterns but unfortunately because he is short tempered & has no control over his temper & ends up yelling,, his advices and warnings about the duo would often be ignored.

Despite her being a practical person, unfortunately, her immense love & her dream of living a fairy tale life with an happy ending with him, has always stopped her from leaving Dev.

The Ayush matter was even more nonsensical.

Once this whole season 3 ends, I am simply going back to pretending it never existed. Because the characters simply aren't behaving the way they are. So many instances in the Ayush track, Dev was such a jerk and behaving totally out-of-character! It's just amazing to me, how the writers are writing a character without knowing him at all!

I don't blame you for asking why Sona is with him in S3, because I have myself wanted her to leave, especially after the name-change fiasco, which was handled as poorly as can possibly be. Both Dev and Ishwari were absolutely terrible in it.

Watch Season 1 to appreciate the writing, the characters and their grey layers!

I read through the discussion on this thread briefly. Yeah, I agree, Sonakshi's biggest shortcoming is loving blindly & being a people pleaser (or maybe, family pleaser). She loves Dev, to such an extent that even after all that has happened, she's willing to forgive. That's just being a moron. As they say, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I really wish that after the 7 year leap, they showed Soha to be Sourabh's daughter, not of Devakshi. This would mean, if Sonakshi returned to Dev, it was because Dev has introspected, and transformed into a better person. If Ishwari accepted infertile Sona, it would be because of the person she is. Not an overnight transformation. What the CVs chose to show was just so cliched. Soha gets her whole family & Dev-Ish get Sonakshi as a bonus.

Sona never asked herself or her loved ones the right questions. It was always the convenient questions. If she ever thought why she was so hesitant to confess to Dev while he was getting engaged, she would get the right answers - not the adjusted answer fed to her by Ishwari, Asha (another moron post leap) & others.

Ishwari's transformation was so opportunistic - as in, Sonakshi freed me from the khatri baggage (the way Sona's character got butchered in this track me absolutely fed up), she has given me a readymade vaaris Suhana - so why not bring her back into the mad household? I'm a pro at manipulation, Sonakshi is an easy target.

Dev- oh boy, she is doing so much for my god, I think I still love her like before (again, so convenient). Sona is an emotional fool, so I don't even need to lift a finger to get her back. My god is convinced, she'll do all the emotional blackmail. All I need to do is get a random girl into the picture. There's no need to change who I am, because Suhana is the glue, and love already exists. Who gives an eff about respect, trust & understanding?

Sona loved Dev every moment after she realised that she's in love. No issues there, you can still love someone who hasn't been fair to you without living with them. BUT, getting back to them, without even resolving the issues that constantly make way is a blunder, a hole you chose to get into yourself.

Regardless of the dumbness & some attributes which irk me, Sonakshi Bose is my favourite ITV FL😃😆 Because, I'd like to believe that the writing let me down, not Sona herself 😉

Agree with everything you said. 👍🏼Couldn't put it better. Along with everything you said, I would like to add just 1 more thing.

The whole Sonakshi's infertility issue itself was a random plot added out of the blue to give Dev some quick fix redemption & assure the viewers that he truly loved Sonakshi because post Ishwari+pills incident, his behaviour had truly shaken up that notion.

After he threw Sonakshi out of his life saying she was not important enough, he never really bothered to introspect & realise what he did wrong. Let alone redeem himself. And he readily forgot everything he did once his mother gave him the "permission" to marry Sonakshi. He didn't even properly apologise to Sonakshi for the way he treated her. He was like.... Maa maan gayi so everything is fine!

That raised some serious questions regarding the sincerity of his "love" towards Sonakshi. Does he really love her? Or does he just say so? Sonakshi being infertile & YET Dev marrying her was makers' answer to that question. See he is marrying her in spite of knowing that she cannot give him a child. He is sacrificing so much to be with her! Of course he truly loves her! That's why that infertility track was pushed in out of the blue. Otherwise it didn't have any connection to the original plot & you can totally see it was not even developed properly. One episode Sonakshi randomly gets a stomachache & next episode she is infertile! All that was orchestred to make Dev look like the ideal husband material who loves & wants only her & doesn't care about anything else.👏

The irony is that they handled the resurfacing of the issue part so poorly that what was supposed to be Dev's ticket to redemption actually ended up making him look like an even bigger jerk! 😆After the revelation of Sonakshi's infertility issue, the way Ishwari & Dev, under the influence of Ishwari, acted it was pretty much obvious that Sonakshi was actually better off not marrying him in the first place. And, if she was informed about her condition in due time, knowing how Ishwari is (& yes, also out of feeling guilty of not being good enough for Dev) she probably would have chosen not to marry him. Bijoy at least would have tried to stop this suicidal marriage & save her from the accompanying doom. But Dev decided to hide it, not only from her but from her family too. And in my opinion by doing that he actually robbed her of a chance to make a choice she was entitled to. Only to rub it on her face & mock her for it later! What a jerk (Dev)!😵 And what a mess (the writing)!🤪

Same, watching the infertility track made me feel nauseous, it felt so degrading as a woman. That phase was so regressive & headache triggering that I don't even dare to re-watch those eps.

Ishwari remained the same damn person throughout the season, literally zero character development. Yes, I love the sona-ish scenes post her pseudo personality change, but on an overview, the transformation was negligible. If Sona was truly pregnant pre leap, then also we would've seen the post leap version of Ish.

When Sona came to know that she's pregnant for the second time (shubh ke waqt), I thought when she'll come to know of the actual complications, she'd tell Sona that her life is more important than the baby. For me, that would be true redemption. But what actually happened - she was happy that Sona is "selflessly" risking her life for the Dixits. I felt so mad to have been watching this show with zero character development then😆

I knew right then, Devakshi & ishwari dynamic is never gonna get sorted, so I was glad the season ended. Ab jao bhaad mein🤪 But no, here comes S3 to give more repeat sessions of all the crap.

Same here. Omg, I cannot even think of ever rewatching those episodes because that was a bad ride. 😖😖😖😖

We would never get the answer of whether she would have been as loving and welcoming if Suhana hadn't been there, but I do think she changed her opinion about Sonakshi to a large extent. Especially because she had seen Dev be estranged from her and finally come back once Sona came back.

I do think for a mother who was as involved in Dev's life as her, she would never be completely non-intrusive and non-interfering. I didn't approve of her getting involved in their pregnancy at all. Deciding to keep the baby or not, informing Dev, naming the baby, wanting to go to the hospital with them. I didn't like any of it. But that is about how far Ishwari could go: accept Sona. Stay out of their lives and let them make their own decisions? I don't think so, she never reached that stage and I don't think she ever would.

Just waiting for this S3 to end, so I can go back to S1! This was terrible 😒

This is a big issue that I have with Asha. I don't understand why Asha is hyped up so much as some ideal mother, because honestly she was not. She was that typical mother who advised her daughter to tolerate everything silently & always bend to make amends. Irrespective of whether her efforts are appreciated or not. Irrespective of whether she was valued & respected or not. She had this obsession with Dev & always pushed Sonakshi to be with him, regardless of whether it was good for her or not. She was never offended on behalf of her daughter & nor was she supportive of her. Post leap she actively joined Dev-Ishwari camp & literally bullied her daughter to forgive Dev & go back to him saying she was being unnecessarily sulky & stubborn.🙄

I feel, Bijoy is much better a parent than Asha was. But the fandom made a villain out of him & compared him to Ishwari because he was not swooning over the male lead & believed his daughter deserved better.

I hate the Ayush track!

I cannot understand how they can trash one significant part of S1 this way!!

Bold: This!! I was hoping for the Ayush track to be some scam which will be unearthed as some guy trying to get money out of the Dixits. Because Suhana was too much like Dev and Sona and this was established over a period of almost 80 episodes!!!!!! The instant connection that Dev felt, looking at this little girl, his expression when he finds out that she is his daughter, when she feeds him her sandwich and when she finally calls him Papa were amazing, to say the least! Dev always wanted a little Sonakshi, he said that many times. And when he tells Ishwari about Suhana, he goes into his own dreamland, saying how Suhana is a little Sonakshi. You could actually feel this thrill, his immense happiness.

And then they do this?!!!! This Ayush track? I am way too upset that they did this, and then just to make that kid the victim, they butchered Suhana's character as much as they could! This was the most idiotic creative decision they could've taken! I still believe they wanted to go another way, but wrapped the track up quickly. Ayush calling Dev Papa was quite lackluster, enhanced by how it was when Suhana called him Papa.

bold - you know this is one of the reasons I couldn’t connect with the show after the 7-year leap, the cliched post-leap kid track. That means the whole premise is based on a compromised situation and not one of one’s sincerity. What if sonakshi still wasn’t able to become a mother at all? Would the ma-beta pair have still accepted sonakshi? For that matter I doubt would dev even have tried to give a shot at their relationship if not for suhana or would he have still kept taunting sonakshi’s inability to be a mother to hurt her where it does the most like he did in the farmhouse? Also what if suhana wasn’t the sorted smart kid like she is, but instead some spoilt kid, angry and resentful against her father? Definitely the ma-beta would have filed custody citing how sonakshi is an unfit mother, wouldn’t they? What if she hadn’t solved ishwari’s issues at all, then what? All these unanswered questions of what if’s definitely made the foundation of this relationship an unstable one for me.

A woman is an individual first and foremost. Her ability or choice to become or not become a mother shouldn’t define her. Isn’t sonakshi as an individual beautiful enough for these ma-beta is my biggest question…

I still didn't understand what did they think they could achieve with this Ayush track apart from destroying season 1😆😆 I am so interested to know which genius brainstormed for plot & then proposed okay.... let's make their daughter not their daughter even though once a good number of episodes were spent to establish that she is....but let's just scratch that & make her not their daughter. Full stop. And let's add a new kid as their son! 😆 I mean.... what even! Why did they need to change everything season 1 established to start this season? And it's not like they could do something great with that track. Showed some nonsense that didn't make sense & then suddenly wrapped it up within 2 episodes.

I hate to say this, but this Serendipity track is at least not as ridiculous as that. Don't get me wrong! Everything they are showing now is stupid too, but this is still somewhat digestible. If they made Sanju Dev's new PA instead of a random employee & worked a little to establish her psycho side, this track would have made a lot of sense.

Ayush track was truly hopeless on all aspects.
