To add to the discussion about the school, I think it is important not to dismiss how Dev did benefit from going to a "bade school." There is a difference between saying you *can't* succeed going to a more affordable school/government school (which is not true), and denying the real advantages that come from studying at a richer school with more facilities.
Some of more obvious advantages: Dev, coming from a household where neither Neha nor Ishwari spoke a word of English, spoke impeccable English when we met him. Had he studied in a govt school, even if it were English medium, he would have had to work extra hard to achieve the English proficiency he has now with the correct accent and inflection. Lacking that skill would have held him back with foreign clients, and in terms of making first impressions on higher-class Indian ones. Additionally, in a place like Delhi, connections are everything. Going to a fancy school would have given Dev access to a different strata of society -- important connections who could help him get his ideas off the ground. That's probably how he was on tu-tu-main-main terms with the commisioner of police. Finally, on the same note, in these elite schools, the alumni networks are very strong and you can often look to your seniors for guidance.
I am sure Dev would have succeeded in any case, but the point is that he didn't. They did take that money and it did contribute to his success. That is something that Ishwari has found a way to live with -- through her philanthropy etc, and something that Dev has to figure out for himself now that he knows.
