Mr. Das, I know exactly what you mean. We kind of have faced the same situation. I won't talk about what others have been doing. I will talk about me because this is what I have in my control.

I have always made post with my opinion and logical argument to support it. I also made a point to make posts where people can counter argue my points with their own logical examples to support it.

What I take exceptions to is those random people (yep, the same ones that forced you to write this post) to come to me and tell me, "You are biased", "You are wrong", "Your brain must be overworked" etc. without any proof or examples.

You have a problem with how I think? Pick my comments or post that made you reach that decision and prove it. I will then counter argue your points.

I have previously accepted when someone gave me a logical point and agreed that I didn't think about it. When someone mentioned of getting hurt by my point, I have publicly apologised in my post and personally. I always like every single comment in my post provided they are respectful and not insulting, regardless whether they agree with me or not. I have done it since I have came to the forum.

There are people with whom I had a difference of opinion or had debates, but when they made a post I found interesting, whether I agreed with them in all points or not, I still liked their posts and many times I also praised them for it.

I don't know any person here. So I have no personal enmity with them. So even when my debate goes on longer, I still do not bear any grudges against them.

But there are people who go on a personal attack and form lifelong enmity when they engage in a debate.

My issue is that first of all, fictional characters are not the actors. The actor had other roles before this, they will have other role after this. So whatever we say about the fictional character no way applies to the actor or actress.

Secondly, targeting real people for discussing fictional characters is no where acceptable. I have been personally targeted and I didn't put up with it. I also defended other people when they were personally attacked by someone including the actors.

And the attack is not just straightforward challenge, instead some people hide behind sarcasm and taunting remarks and think that using smily emoji will make their comment appear less insulting.

I make a point to only comment on those people's post who I believe are open to rational discussion and stay clear of people who, in my experience, are unable to do so.

If anyone is starting to take offence with criticising fictional characters based on what is shown on the screen, then they are blurring the line between fiction and reality and need to take a step back.

sure, appreciate your views, but I humbly disagree. In an analysis of fictional characters, all is fair. Take for instance Ishwari. There is not a single soul on this forum who has not abused or bashed her up. Then no one cried foul! What is the difference? Is it because Ishwari, played by Supriya, does not have a fan following? In fact it is all the more unfair then to bash a character who does not have a fan following of size. Simple, we all took it in great fun and in the right spirit. In fact actors who don such roles know what the character is in for, even before they start. Actors who are not strong enough to take 'character' criticism are not to be actors. Characters are written to be liked or disliked. In the present track, yes, Dev is getting criticised. When the script changes, I am pretty positive that praises will automatically come.

Finally, folks who cannot take character criticism just because it is played by a favourite actor, need to be part of a fan club, not an open forum where criticism, and hard criticism, is bound to be there.

in the south of India, one dare not criticise any so called super star. The are as good as dead! The fan clubs will maul them! Thankfully this forum is not a fan club, at least this is what I believe.

Tia, take a bow! I know that there will be many, especially women, who may not be able to take your posts in the way they are supposed to be taken.. logical, well debated, rational and on a sound footing. It is all in the mind. I keep telling my wife, and she does not have too many friends, that she ought not to be so frank and always on the right logical foot. Just this one approach is sufficient to offend anyone who is unable to keep pace with her, forget men, even women. I must also confess that it is a pleasure for me to lose a debate with her. Yes, I do get offended too but then it is my own mind playing dirty tricks. At the end of the day, I have lost to a worthy argument, not a person, leave aside an enemy.

Sir i understand what you are trying to say, but using abusing language is bit too far i suppose. You call a character useless, spineless thats okay because that's a perspective but using "abusive words' is not done. That's what i feel that the line should be drawn. But i respect your POV as well. N i rest my case here.

Mr. Das 👏

I owe a bow to you for saying @Bold. It's not easy for a man to accept this in the first place and say it openly after that. I am sure I hurt many by my bluntness too, undoubtedly sometimes my husband also. But we are together for 16 years and things have never gone bitter to be beyond reconciliation for us. So, I am assuming that he must be making peace thinking it's better to lose an argument than a person 😆

I still find it hard to read the mindset of many young fans on the forum who find it hard to distinguish between reel and real. Over the years I have just learned to keep out of posts where I can't have a "favorable" opinion with the thread maker. After all, every person to his own choice and it's not very easy to stop from crossing the lines, most of the times it's just a frustration of the onscreen track. Hopefully, your thread brings peace on the forum.

Speaking about alternative facts: AM sure you have seen this... presenting alternative view in the true sense & by whom

People who doing the bashing be it dev or sona should also learn to not cross the line by using such terms.

I would agree with you. There is a better way to bash characters. You can criticize a character, but is naming calling is totally unnecessary for them. When we watch the show, you can relate to characters. You can relate with yourself, your family and friends. I was talking to my sister and discussing Kuch Rang episodes, my sister commented that you are talking as if they exist in real life.

I just don't understand the words we see in the forum to bash characters. In my life, I have never used words like looser, spineless, doormat...it's just rude.

Now a days, even in the show makers are using these words so conveniently, sometimes I feel whether Cv's are so inspired from forum/SNS and they think it is cool.

Sir - I really liked your post. Very much needed. Discussion should be healthy. No need to get into personal and bash anyone. I wish this rule apply for fictional characters too.

PK Das. I totally agree with you. For once why I loved the forum is how it allows everyone to post the vastly different point of views without getting personal to each other. I really liked that despite having periodically mocking posts name-calling characters like Rithwik, Natasha etc without any logical reason. I didn't mind because they were fictional too, I protested once, but made my peace with it when ignored.

But what I fail to understand is personal attacks.

I see people are saying posts are made to just 'rile' up the fandom with too much of bashing, that the instigating posts don't have any reasons behind it but only to irritate fans. Well I ask what about the 'positive' posts. I have a huge doubt on based on what we call something positive or negative, so not going into that. But the so-called positive posts saying 'Hot Dev', 'Rich Dev', 'His smile', 'His wink', 'His looks' - and endless stuffs like this - DO they have ANY reason or logic behind this ? If we can post meaningless (well, subjective) 'positive' posts here 24x7, what's the harm in tolerating few meaningless 'negative' posts as well ? 🤔 God has given us brains. If we can identify the 'purpose' of a poster just by reading 5/6 lines from him/her, why cannot we just ignore instead of getting personal, asking them to leave the forum, asking them to stop watching the show and what not. 🤔

Like you, I am disappointed too. Hope to see the changes soon once awareness is created. There is nothing bad in co-existing with people from all kind of thoughts. Dev Dixit - the character is clearly incapable of doing so, but we as real people (and not fictional) should be intelligent enough to identify and distinguish between right and wrong actions and follow that. 🤔

Mr Das : Its a well thought out post and indeed welcome. India forum comprises of people from different countries, cultures and upbringing. The age group has also startled me, sometimes. Teenagers as young as 13 are members here. Besides, its a purely virtual world out here and one may never know the real identity of people writing here. 😊 In such a scenario what etiquettes are you looking for? Respecting an alternate view only happens in specific scenarios - mature post written by mature writers. Besides, I don't read proficient English here, from every writer. Sometimes, certain views are also misunderstood.

I have always maintained that its not what you write, but how you write or present your thoughts that makes a world of difference. Using abusive language is indeed unfortunate, but then, why does the forum have Mods? Arent they reading posts? Allow them to do their job.

I personally feel if you find a thread unsavouring or unpleasant and unsuitable to your demeanour, just leave it. Else, report it. If the language used is offensive, Mods are responsible and authorised to take action. I find writers who write negative views positively, very respectful. A dash of humor adds more sweetness to such posts. The forum is full of people having their own views and ways to present it. There may be forumites who have had their share of bitter experiences in life either through separation, divorce or single parenting and find solace when they vent out their frustrations. They may be biased to view characters as per their experiences and may be unwilling to look the other way. Sometimes, the thin line which separates the character from the actor is always crossed and the fan club finds certain posts insulting and are unwilling to accept the alternate view. Just ignore it. Its a simple way of admiring your style of writing and appreciating what you like.

Leaving the forum would not change anything. The choice is entirely yours.

Enjoy writing.
