I don't think you are over-analysing at all. In fact, if you think back, their shared experience of being overshadowed by Sona and Dev respectively, was the first thing that broke the ice for Elena and Vicky's friendship, and the first genuine conversation Elena allowed. The resentment they share for their goody-two-shoes cousins, to whom they were always compared, is the foundation of their relationship. So I think what you have written about Vicky applies to Elena as well. She wanted what Sona has: the respect she gets as an adult in the family, her unlikely, tumultuous love story, and her perceived fairytale ending.
But what both of these immature kids are missing is the work that Dev and Sona put into what they have, both as individuals and together. If the Boses take Sona seriously, and respect her, it is because she has taken the entire financial burden of the family on her shoulders both before and after marriage, and protects her relationships fiercely. Long before Bijoy stormed in with his "bhatija" strategy, she had taken care of the aunty issue, making her stance clear to both Dev and Ishwari, and defended Asha's feelings. Saurabh's unemployment was a huge concern for the family, but she swooped in and found a solution that allowed him to pursue the kind of work he is interested in, without hurting his pride. And while her love story may have looked glamourous to Elena, only Sona and Dev know what they have gone through to be together today.
That's why the room thing didn't bother me that much (even though the physical reality of it is quite gross). Like Dev used to say when people warned him about losses in his business: I built this step by step and if need be, I can do it again. That confidence and calm that comes with knowing the hard work you have put in is precisely what sets Sona and Dev's relationship apart from Vicky and Elena, who have taken nothing but shortcuts. None of what they have now, including Dev and Sona's room, is something they built from the ground up, so they will never be able to get what they want out of it.
Honestly, I loved today's episode because Sona and Dev had the last laugh, literally 😆 Once their anger cooled, they were like "sure, why not? Pass the popcorn!" Elena and Vicky have already written their own punishment into their future. Elena -- photographer, literature-lover, and social butterfly -- has bound herself to Vicky -- entitled, undereducated, barely employed, monolingual sexist. That ridiculousness of their relationship was visible even in their supposedly lovey-dovey interaction today. Everyone is making these false equivalencies between the two couples but time will show how different they really are. Vicky and Elena need not only what is given to them, but what isn't rightfully theirs in order to be happy. Sona and Dev, in between all the interruptions, with people constantly throwing water on their romance (couldn't resist!), find ways to be happy with each other.
