In this situation we spoke veteran Raghuvir Shekhawat who is penning the screenplay of popular Sony show Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi.
"We are playing on relationship's in an normal upper middle class metro family. Our story has been based on two pegs, first was the love and romance between Dev (Shaheer Sheikh) and Sonaskhi (Erica Fernandes). And second is the equation the couple especially the bride shares with her in- laws and vice versa. We need to accept that in India marriage is not just between two individuals but between two families as well. This above delicate bond is now being explored and we are getting a good response. It is heartening to note that with this phase the 35 years + plus women audience is finally beginning to associate with us. Although our primary Target Audience (TG) is youth we never fell into the trap of making Ishwari (Supriya Pilgaonkar) negative. We are not a normal saas bahu show yet are also dealing with those very equations."
Here Raghuvir has earlier written Balika Vadhu and several other hits shows as well added that, "The much loved realism associated with the show is courtesy Sony TV, which has a different audience profile as opposed to say a Colors or Zee TV. Unlike them we exaggerate situations by just 10% for our urban youth TG wants to see problem's and their solutions in a more relatable manner. This is also easier for me as a writer for it gets stressing to always keep presenting high drama."
It is this different audience profile which makes Raghuvir confident that the channel will not go the normal route of over the top story lines in search of higher numbers. "Sony had tried the same before and had to eat humble pie so I am sure that will continue to support us. Having said that numbers do count and we do keep adding high points to keep the narrative pacy and interesting."
Talking about audience feedback via social media he says, "To be honest we don't really pay attention to them for different sets of viewers have their own respective perceptions which might or might not be in tune with our story lines. For example there was pressure on us from fans to drop the Ishwari angle and focus only on Dev and Sonakshi love story, but if we do that our show ends. Certain fans also do misbehave and I respond back appropriately."
In closing he also admits that,"At first I had reservation's whether Erica can pull off Sonakshi but she pleasantly surprised me. We normally write character sketches before the casting and then the job is to find someone who is closest to that graph. Sometime it works out and other's it does not, lucky here it has clicked with all characters."
